My carpet did not seemed to go flat after it was professionally cleaned. It's pretty new. It doesn't really spring up after vacuuming .

Glad I found this video, I have this exact problem with my carpets. I have what I thought to be pretty mid-high end carpeting from mohawk, one of the better carpet brands next to Shaw flooring. Or so I thought. My carpet style is nearly 1/2 inch pile height. Not super dense, just higher pile, tightly twisted fibers. Not sure what you would call that, it's not quite shag. Anyway, a lot of the carpet is very matted and the tips of the fibers are beginning to look fuzzy. Especially so in the high traffic areas like the hallway. Surprisingly the carpeted stairs going to my front door and garage are looking in better shape but I dont vacuum nearly as often the stairs. It leads me to believe my vacuum may have been causing premature wear on my carpet but I'm not entirely sure either. Someone said you should use suction only vacuuming on these higher pile carpets, but that doesnt remove hardly any dirt or hair. Carpets were installed about 3 1/2 years ago only, I feel like it's way too early for this kind of wear in a household setting. Any suggestions of what I can try? Had them cleaned about a year ago. I was thinking about maybe getting a grandi groomer carpet rake and using that a couple times a week just to hopefully coerce the fibers to stand up better on their own over time. Maybe get someone in here to clean it using a CRB? I'm totally lost by all the misleading information out there on this lol. Anyway, sorry for the rambling, I'm just at a loss!

Hi Shawn. Thanks for your great questions. Couple of things to consider here. First, do you know the carpet construction? Like nylon, SmartStrand, olefin, etc. We see a lot more wear issues on polyesters and olefins than nylons due to retention. It's possible your vacuum adjustment is set too low and the beater bar is digging in too deeply, or perhaps the vacuum you're using is too aggressive. The Carpet and Rug Institute has a large list of vacuums that they test and certify. I can say that there is one popular model that isn't on the list for a reason. It is too aggressive and can cause premature wear. I was at a seminar several years back and saw for myself. The presenter of the seminar was one of the lead troubleshooters at Shaw and while he wouldn't publish anything stating so, he certainly showed us. I suspect politics played into his decision not to write up a white paper on it. There is a pretty good article from a trusted source about aggressive vacuums damaging carpet found here: cleanfax.com/technical-tip/deadly-vacuum-damage-carpet-customers/ The list of approved vacuums can be found here: carpet-rug.org/testing/seal-of-approval-program/certified-vacuums/ But maybe it's not your vacuum. It could be a manufacturing defect. Since your carpet is only 3 1/2 years old it's a good idea to check out your warranty and speak with the place you purchased the carpet. They will likely send out a rep to see if the problem is the fault of the carpet. Alternatively you can also hire a carpet inspector for an independent evaluation. As for using a carpet groomer - it may help temporarily, but once the fiber bundles become untwisted, it's impossible to re-twist them back. Last thing - it's possible soil loading is causing the fibers to separate and appear fuzzy. Do you know which method they used? Did it look better for a while, and then look fuzzy again? Or did it never improve? Having your carpet hot water extracted and performed by a capable technician using the proper PSI, heat, chemistry, and cleaning techniques may dislodge the soil and cause the fibers to spring back, but without actually testing it there's no way to know. If it is soil loading, extraction may bring it back to life. ~Scott

@@Rendallscleaningmi appreciate the reply! I'm not sure the last person that was doing the cleaning did a very good job. They had a truck mount but were in and out in probably 45 minutes for 2 bedrooms, a living room, and stairs. Seems like the job was rushed but it wasn't very dirty to begin with. Haven't clean the two bedrooms in my basement yet because they are almost never used I just vacuum them twice a month and it's in much better shape down there. I have an older Panasonic bagless upright vacuum I've had for probably 6 years or so, i bought it because at the time it got great reviews. Doesnt have an adjustable height power head though, so I'm almost wondering if that's part of the problem. Been looking for a new vacuum anyway hoping that it might help, so I'm well aware of the CRI actually just in the research I've done on this :) I'm not sure what material the carpet is, all I know is it's made by mohawk and carries either a 10 or 20 year stain resistant warranty, so I assume its nylon? Maybe. I took a few pictures of the spots in question and asked this on some other forums for advice, in case you are curious and have time here is my carpet. m.imgur.com/a/O8xwhsq As you can see I dont have any staining, it's just regular every day soiling, road salt, dog hair, grime from kids, etc. Asking a few pros I asked about trying it the DIY approach and the method I described they said will probably still be better than most pros do actually lol. Pre spray with a pump sprayer, agitate with a brush or carpet rake, let dwell, extract, rinse with water/vinegar dilution or carpet fiber rinse, and do multiple dry passes with a rented extractor from a janitorial supplier. Honestly it sounds like I'd get "good enough" interim results with a method like this compared to what some consumer equipment does with just spraying a shampoo and extracting it a few seconds later. Might be good for in between cleaning considering I have two dogs and two kids in the house? I dont expect perfection, but it might be good enough. Are there any other industry consortiums or carpet cleaner company trade alliance type resources I can look into to find a well trained carpet cleaning professional in my area? Or is it pretty much just going to be on the CRI website? Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to reply and knowledge on this!

@@shawnamison2485 Thanks for the pics. Could be the images or my eyes, but it doesn't look terrible to me. I just see a very light traffic pattern and pivot point. I would give your idea a try, but I wouldn't add vinegar to the rinse water. It won't hurt anything, but your carpet may become crunchy feeling with an acid rinse. At risk of tooting our own horn too much, we recommend our CRI-approved stain remover called Stain Fu. Not only is it great at removing water-based soil, it does not leave a sticky or fiber-mashing residue. You can use it as a prespray, and/or added to your rinse water prior to extracting. 2 to 4 oz per gallon is recommended as a rinse. You can find it here: stainfu.com As for a CRB, they are great safe scrubbers, but I don't think it's necessary in your case. Using a Grandi-Groomer for agitation should suffice. As for locating a quality local cleaning company, I advise to ask around rather than using a directory. You know more than most consumers, and asking these them these great questions over the phone should give you a good idea if they are any good, based on their answers. One little hint of their quality that you can ask is if they prevacuum. If they don't, in my experience, they are a production company - I.E. they get in and out as fast as possible without being meticulous about the cleaning. ~Scott

@@Rendallscleaningmi glad to hear you think this can be fixed! Maybe it's not as bad as I think it is, it could just be my obsessiveness Haha! I detail a lot of cars in my spare time so I pay attention to the details, it's in my nature I guess. I'll check out stainfu, glad to hear it can safely be used without leaving a residue. That was my main concern, and a lot of people say to rinse well because of that. I was looking into something like matrix grand slam or prochem ultra pac as a pre-spray, but maybe that's totally overkill and I'm overthinking this as usual. Something under a pH of 9.5 ish. The product you mentioned will probably be just fine for my level of soiling I'm sure. Easier to work with I bet. Would you recommend one of these "pro" level products over something like the Hoover brand carpet shampoo? Seems the Hoover "professional" stuff on amazon is actually CRI certified as well believe it or not!

I shampooed my carpet. Now it's stiff in places. Can you add a fabric softener to the shampoo? I have a Bissel Pet Pro Plus. I don't want to void the warranty. It was bought a week ago. Thanks 🐀🐾
@Rendallscleaningmi
@Rendallscleaningmi 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! I suspect that it's stiff from leftover residue of a cleaning solution. Adding fabric softener will most likely cause more residue in the carpet. I would suggest vacuuming the areas first, and then rinsing the areas with just hot tap water. You might have to go over the areas a few times depending on how much residue there is. Hopefully that helps!

I have fluffy carpet 100%polyster . How to clean ? They said should be dry cleaning without water .
@Rendallscleaningmi
@Rendallscleaningmi 4 жыл бұрын
Hi George, just curious- who told you to dry clean only? Our preferred method for cleaning poly is hot water extraction ("steam cleaning") however if the manufacturer is the one recommending this you, you might need to do dry clean only so you don't void the warranty. Polyester is a very oil-loving fiber and we have found the best results by using a degreasing carpet cleaning product with hot water extraction to get the best results.

Hey there! Just moved in our new flat and the carpet has become rough after vacuuming it for the first time - is this normal? should we use some sort of carpet softener?

Hello! There could be a few things going on. Does it look fuzzier after you vacuumed? Or is it more just a rough feeling after vacuuming? Do you happen to know the fiber type (i.e. synthetic, wool)? And what vacuum are you using? Thanks!

Hello and thanks for writing. I'm trying to understand what's going on here, so please answer the following: * Was the carpet not rough before vacuuming? * Does the texture of the carpet look different after vacuuming? * Is it new carpet? * Has it been cleaned before? * Are there any odors or discolorations? * Any idea what the carpet is made of? Thanks, ~Scott

If the strand is fuzzed at the end, what can I do? Will a professional cleaning help?
@Rendallscleaningmi
@Rendallscleaningmi 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, and thanks for your question. When you say "fuzzed", do you mean that the fiber tips have become untwisted? If so, hot water extraction may help, but if the fiber tips are severely untwisted, it is permanent. If you'd like, please send closeup images of your issue to support@rendallscleaning.com and we'll try to assist.
