Yeah nah. Ive been going to butler tech for a 8 month class and we’ve already had 3 different instructors quit because they found better welding jobs. One even became a CWI for a company. We now have to deal with the person who hires the instructors, as our instructor and knows absolutely nothing about welding. We have no choice but to teach ourselves and rely on our classmates who also have no idea what they’re doing 80% of the time.

I introduced tig welding machine to my friend (he's a tattoo artist, never weld before) and he did a single pass way nicer than me (who's actually on tig welding for 5 years now). That day was the day i realized, tattooing and welding share the same basic foundation. Now, i'm both tig welder and tattoo artist 🤣

I have autism.. and my dad is really good welding in tig and mig. He has been doing it for 30 years.. I first did mig on my own.. I just needed to watch how he did it, how he set it up for the steel and when he wasn't home I went to the shed and did it and he said it was really good.. So I said I think I can do tig.. he said I don't think you can its really hard to learn it really good.. I said all I need is for you to tell me how to set it up and show me 1 line.. so he did.. then said lets see if you can do it now.. So I did and he said wow.. i have teached people that know how to weld with mig and are really good with welding mig but your welding with tig is better then theres.. I was really happy :)

I send anyone who wants to learn the art of TIG welding to your channel. I don't have the time to personally instruct people and there is no one on the web who does a better job of showing and informing people who wish to learn than this guy. I am not new to the trade with 30 years of welding experience, had more welding qualifications than I can list with 9 of those years having been a CWI/CWE. He has taught and explained things you will never learn in a tech school class. The best on the web don't settle for anything less. Like and subscribe this man deserves it!

This is required watching. And as someone who has made every mistake in the book much of what you said is so true, Dusty. I also feel that learning or being self taught while harsh (trust me) when starting out is a great way to learn as well. Why. Because after making all the mistakes then re-watching these videos they make far more sense. I can TIG weld thin metal and pie cuts now but after a very long apprenticeship of ineptness, self-embarrassment and watching the same videos over and over and more practise. Other key's are comfort (body and hand position) and lighting. And PREP! So so critical. If you have a gap between 2 parts.... it will be a holy event! Cut! Finish! Clean! Then weld. You cannot short cut on TIG. And keep watching Pacific Arc Tig Welding.

Thanks Dusty, it really helps how you give a way to diagnosis problems instead of just some guy in a video saying how he does something. I was having some issues welding cast aluminum, and almost gave up until I went through some basics... Did I have a gas leak... no, did I have my setting correct, no, my tungsten was deforming, so I moved to a bigger tungsten and increased the frequency and changed the balance and fixed that. I still had issues, so I did some research on what rod to use. I was using ER5356, and simply tried 4043 and it worked.
