That bit on isfp's after the isfj rant is so true. last year (freshman year) I started playing football out off the blue, just because. I hadn't played a sport for years and had very little experience or knowledge of how to play. But because, as an isfp I was super willing to listen to the coaches (getting over Fi) and work hard in practice (Se), I was a starting outside linebacker by the end of the season. Now I also play laccrosse for the same team and became a team captain there.

"NFJs are more abusive to their spouses" As an INFP : Haha, I'm in danger :^) But on a serious note, great lecture! I've dated both these types and found they would have been better off dating each other and not me.

As an ISFP teacher, I have to honestly admit that I can forget students completely after a couple of years of them moving up a grade. They’ll see me in the store, but I will have forgotten who they were. I really need to work on that.

Never ask ISFJ what they want, never ask INTP what they want. Maybe we shouldn’t ask anybody what they want lol I’m an ISFJ btw and I think there’s nothing bad about asking me what I want. In fact I’ll answer you right away! I always know what I want. What I don’t know is what I should do sometimes. And I have no idea what people think so I often make bad choices. What’s gonna piss me off is if someone said: “Do something right now! Make your choice right now, this second!” Damn this is gonna make me so anxious and miserable 😖

I have to tell you Joseph, I respect your patience and intelligence. You always like my comments even though sometimes they may be mean (not intentionally). I honestly would love to have a friend ENTP or have any acquaintance with an ENTP. I think I would learn so much from them, like, for intense, stating their opinions and not being afraid.

Isfj- I don’t have any dogma, I don’t even want to do family events because I feel everyone only attends out of obligation, so now we never se3 each other, life is passing by, soon it’ll be over and will it be oh we wanted to get together....but even to have the conversation could create obligation

I had an aha moment and had to pause the video to comment. I think my father may have been an ISFP (which I am also). His children were never good enough for him although he loved us very much. He hated to see weakness in his kids. He was very critical of us, which being an ISFP myself, did not help my self image. I struggle to this day. Sadly, I never felt very close to him, maybe we were too much alike, although I do miss him. He was even harder on my brothers. Because of that, I think I became opposite with my son, always wanting to increase his self esteem. He's INTP and I adore his personality. 🙂

I’m an isfp and my mom is an isfj and i can say that this is spot on. She thinks I’m doing something wrong when I’m open-minded and non-judgemental on things society is judgemental. I remember when i was a teen i wanted to get a buzzcut (I’m a girl) and she freaked out, she thought i have mental issues or something because “such things are not for girls”. I eventually did cut my hair really really short (almost a buzzcut) but she made me promise that i would grow it back.

An ISFJ can be a covert narcissist with an ISFP as the empath in a relationship. The ISFJ will suck up the ISFP's feelings adapting them to become his or her own. Sounds terrifying for an ISFP. My physically abusive parent is an ESTJ.

I want to feel wanted and I worry about what other people think about me. This is the only reason I can't tell if I'm an ISFP or an ISFJ. When drinking caffeine or alcohol, I can talk a lot, dance a lot, want to share my religious views, talk about anything, and I sometimes makeout with girls. I remember telling someone after I was drinking alcohol that there are a lot of Italians in New Jersey and a lot of Mexicans in California. He called me a bigot but that wasn't my intent. I was being observant. Since ISFPs worry about what other people thibk of them, I think they will sacrifice their some of their wants to please other people like caring for someone when no one else can. ISFJs and ISFPs both have high moral standards and believe they are good people.

Haha, I feel a little bad for all the ISFJs watching this, they got some blasting XD I won't be showing my mom this in other words :P I am now very sure she is one, but she does not have the negative qualities, she is a mature ISFJ I guess. She has the tendensies, but she has learned to control it. I am an ISFP and I liked this decription, it fit very well. I have ADD that went undiagnosed for 26 years and I have been really mentally ill. I recognise many of the negative behaviours described A LOT during that time. The alienation, ignoring, indifference and not being able to cope with other people without coming off as arrogant. I thought I deserved more, but I was not able to speak up or do anything about it. I almost took my life. But my ISFJ mom (who btw, I never feel I can make up for all her good dutiful deeds she's done to me XD) stepped in eventually and got me the help I needed. I was very crippled for a long time not being able to use my Fi full out (ADD messes with emotions a lot and makes you not being able to be yourself basically, wich is detrimental to an ISFP I have learned now, but being shy and introverte, not hyperactive and having an interest in the academics, my ADD didnt really show to other people and I was just afraid of what everyone thought of me so I didnt speak up about how I felt until very late in life) and only spending time worrying with my Te. I felt like for the last 2 years of me being very mentally ill I could only use my unconcious ESFJ and I did not like that, it was not me. So I completely isolated myself from all the ones I cared about, as I had lost all control over myself. Now that I have gotten the treatment I needed I can see and learn about all this and its so interesting how it all makes sence!

Yes being mentally ill makes it impossible to use Fi without entirely fucking up everything. I was very sick the past few years and didnt think I could be esfp because I didn't use feeling (mine or others) to make any decisions because it was completely unreliable but now that I'm healthier and trying to grow more my Fi is very consistent and I rely a lot on it (but I know how to revert to a more fact based type of thinking during times when I've noticed my feelings getting outta whack. (That can be hard to do though because I don't always notice the sickness creeping back in until it's been weeks of nothing but bad decisions.))

Great video Chase! Yep we're down to earth. Tangible, realistic. Not daydreaming high in the clouds. Behind the scenes, all that. I'm an ISFJ and my best friend is an ISFP. I'm also confused about my paths, like you said. My memory is good but it isn't perfect, then again no one has perfect memory. Certain social things I remember very strongly+for a long time. I can surprise people with stuff I remember, now and then. Information is indeed important to us, and intent/consistency. That obligation/enforcing stuff is true, but for me I try to do it in a polite way and I tell my friend "you shouldn't lie, there's no need to lie about that". I don't like liars. I don't force them to go to church (I'm not religious) or family events. I might encourage but I don't force if it's not absolutely necessary (like life and death situations n such). Yep, alienation. But I'm not hurt by the religious people rant, lots of ISFJs ARE religious :). I'm more into philosophy, spirituality, just being a good person. I almost went down the christian route, I really believed in god as a kid/teenager but not anymore, not for years now. I verify and I'm honest, I won't just blindly follow the crowd/consensus. I protect & support my ISFP friend, and criticise when necessary (in a kind/sensible way, not in a rude manner).

Me and my ISFJ friend seem really similar on the surface since We’re both shy quiet and peaceful. But the thing is she seek stability and is ok with settling for things she don’t really want but are “secure” “stable” while for me it bothers me more having a career i don’t want or goals i don’t want rather than uncertainty. She’s more like:”i Wish i had that that but so many ppl want to happen and it doesn’t happen” while i’m like:”it will happen bcuz i want and deserve it”. We’re both artists and we both like to paint(she’s more patient than i am that’s for sure) but u give her an image and she’ll paint it exactly as it is while I’ll most likely change something to that image just for changing it. I’m more narcissistic than she is like we both volunteered to autistic kids she volunteered bcuz she cared about them and she stuck with them and volunteered for 3-4 years while i went bcuz i wanted to try something new and volunteering helps career wise and quited after i found a better volunteer club to organize charitable parties and events still benefiting from the diploma but have fun while doing it We’re a good match actually like she helps me be less selfish and i help her be more “sneaky” and less submissive. I’m usually against violence though but i finna use it if i’m losing my temper really bad. In my culture SJ’s beat their children more since “their parents did same their grandparents did the same and basically tradition”

Interesting talk. I'm curious though as an ISFJ I'm rarely seek revenge but the only time it comes to my mind is if someone takes advantage of me or insults the essence of who I am. I think other types can manage to be less vengeful because they have no problem speaking out or demanding what they deserve. You mess with me then my justice monster rears it's ugly head. People are used to it and get taken by surprise when I collect my justice. I see your rant is about unhealthy ISFJ's rather than those who had found self awareness to feel uncomfortable with others choices rather than demanding they do it our way.

Justice is served by taking back my power because I didn't verify someone's intentions. Once I realize you took advantage of me then I'm ruthless. I was raised by an unhealthy mother who manipulates family members even her daughters to do what she think is the 'proper' way of doing things and will throw you under the bus if you refuse. I'm very aware that I can default to this so watching your lectures and getting told the truth without sugar coating is good for me.

Type comparisons about J vs P or E vs I have been very helpful, but recently I’ve been have a hard time distinguishing types with the same cognitive function like ESTP vs ENFJ or INTJ vs ISFP. It’s easy for me to catch onto what cognitive functions people have but find out how they’re stacked is a little more tricky. INTJ vs ISFP is one I’ve been curious about recently with my mom and I having the same cognitive function as those types and we’re both introverted. A comparison of those types and types like that would be really cool to see.

26:37 Oh man I had to learn very quickly that giving my ISFJ bf "options" wouldn't do anything. When we're out and about, deciding what to eat goes like this: Me: "What do you wanna eat, babe?" Him: "Idk." Me: "Uh, well do you want McDonald's? Applebee's? Pizza? That diner down the road?" Him: "Idk, you choose." Me: "Uh, guess we're going to McDonald's then!" Every. Single. Time. Now I just obligate him to take us to x place to eat 😂 Sometimes when I have trouble deciding where to go I just tell him I'm hungry and he gives me a few options (which I like as an ISFP). Of course he can't choose. I have to do it. But it's a nice balance and we're not spending 30 mins wondering where to get some chow anymore 😄

I’m not sure whether I am an ISFJ or an ISFP. I have always thought that I was an XXXJ because of how organized I generally am with my belongings, but now I’m coming to question that. You see, my room is always visually and aesthetically pleasing and everything’s in order, even coming to the point of perfectionism. In fact, I can’t work if my things aren’t organized. However, my routine is not as consistent. I don’t usually plan what I will do, and even if I try to do that, I just end up following anything that comes to mind. During class, I don’t feel the need to pay attention and I draw on my notebooks all the time because I just feel like I can organize myself later. My sister, an INFJ, even frequently says that she wishes she were as calm as I am when regarding important matters. One thing that makes me really wonder whether I am an ISFJ or not is about the “following traditions and laws” thing. I’m a liberal and have always been more open-minded about stuff ever since I was a kid. In fact, I was a Mormon and I never agreed with most of the things they said. Although I mostly sat quietly while they talked (not always, sometimes I’d speak up), I’d constantly argue with my parents about sexist and racist principles. I’m not even a Christian anymore. I think that every religion has their own values and that you don’t need a religion to be a good person. I usually question traditions and try not to be biased. I’ve never obligated other people to do the things I wanna do, because I honestly couldn’t care less. I don’t see why it would be my business what other people do. ISFJs are also more inclined to exact sciences, whereas I’ve always been the type to appreciate human sciences such as sociology, visual arts, psychology and language arts. All of my talents are art-related. Though I’m also not bad at exact sciences. I’m in a dilemma and have no clue which type I am. I’d say most of the things about ISFJs fit me, but lots of things contradict it! D:

@Meade Vlog channel You say you’re open-minded but are still judging me and saying that as if you even knew me. Being agnostic doesn’t mean you’re not close to God, and being a Christian doesn’t mean you’re a good person and therefore has a relationship with God either. One of the many reasons why I left my church was because of the awful people I met there.

Isfp here. If a woman would obligate me or force me to go the the family meeting, which i highly highly doubt, but if they would somehow manage it, i'd go there. I'd tell everyone i didn't want to come here, but my girlfriend insisted and forced me to come, because she doesn't want to be alone because she doesn't like it here, so i have to keep company because i'm the only one she actually likes. Sure i just made that story up right now, there would have to be the family dynamics and other things behind it for me to actually be able to do that, but if she would force me to go, i'd make sure i'd do something so everyone knows i didn't want to come and she forced me to come here, and i'd either leave soon or say something more that would make sure next time they either wouldn't want me there or that she wouldn't want me to come there again in the first place, because i'm sure she wouldn't be happy about these words i said about her, or her family and how she thinks of them during the family meeting. 😂

About crazy lectures/bullshit being preached, as a Catholic, one thing that really irked me in a priests preaching( he was talking shit about muslism, which already was smth that irritates me) was when he said about Allah's Believers selling the christian teenagers as sex slaves, also I was a bit baffled how nobody nearly noticed that gaffe.

This has nothing to do with types, but thank you for your stance against child beating. I'm not from the US, but here in my country the culture of parents beating kids is normalized, sometimes even romanticized as part of ones "education". It disgusts me. Everytime I see someone openly going against it I feel the necessity to praise them.

C.S. Joseph Whew.. That's the million $ question right there brother... I'd say I don't know for sure.. And, depending on who I ask, a bit of both. I can say this: Imagination is a nice/funny break... But, rarely delivers.. And, is usually a distraction/&/or gets me in (serious) trouble (haha). Intuition? Experience? More so (in terms of delivering). To betray those (intuition & experience), is to betray myself. Further.. What's real isn't as fun.. But, at the end of the day.. I prefer Real fun (i.e. sports.. Outdoors) than imaginative fun (i.e. video games)... I hate/feel like garbage (lol) if/when I've spent a while day in my head (& not doing). Regarding interests &/or work: I prefer to observe, do, reflect, & decide (if I made the right choices.. & if/how I want to continue the doing). Follow through & losing interest can be a challenge. One more thing.. You mentioned intentions. I place a *very* high premium on intentions. Mine (first & foremost) *&* others. Not exactly sure if that contributes to official/definitive abstract vs. concrete dialogue...? I'm here to learn though.. Soooo... What're your thoughts/reflections?

Hello! Romanian INFP here. Is it possible for me to develop my T to the point I identify myself half to an INFP half to an INTP. Why I claim this? School and personal experiences drove me to the conclusion that my gut feelings are not always true and sometimes I need pure rational thinking to make the right decisions. My Ne is pretty useful to see the outcomes, but the Fi hero corrupts my analytical thinking and I choose only the outcomes related to my feeling. I am no longer a day dreamer for like 1-2 years. In fact I gradually gave up on my fairy tales world. I saw it as a shelter after all, right? And it was good emotional stimulus as well (I know it's sad... That's why I gave up on it). I watched and re-watched some of your videos. I do like them and I have in plan to finish all of your series! In case I get to be among the lucky ones, I'd like the pdf version of the book, because it's safer for the planet! (that's what an INFP would say, right? ^_^)

How do i get my isfj friend to do something new and out of is confort zone for once ... every time i try to convince him, its like talking to a wall . He is my cousin and he have been my best friend for so many years, but now i feel like we don't understand each other... when i told him i was going on a solo back pack trip i kind hoped that he would at least say something like : oh wow! i wish i could come with you. But is reaction was more like wtf, are you going crazy ... obligating im in this situation isn't a bit extreme ? Im an isfp by the way Anyway, again, great video, keep up your good work !

Telling him you do not want him with you (That's what a *solo* trip means to the rest of the world!), then insulting his intelligence in front of strangers ("its like talking to a wall") because he didn't understand what you wanted him to say was probably one of the least productive ways to guilt-trip him into carrying half the gear for you that I can think of. If you had said something along the lines of "Cousin, I have some time off next weekend. Let's go hiking together, you and me. There's this great trail I've heard about, and I was hoping to get a chance to reconnect without the usual distractions." MAYBE he would have been interested in helping you have fun. But you also would have had to mean exactly what you said. What's sad is that you probably think you're a more safe and conscientious leader (ENTJ subconscious) than you are, and he probably thinks he's more outspoken in pursuing his own best interests (ENTP subconscious) than he really is. Even though your Te wants to hear from others, his Ti will not function well unless his Ne perceives that you value his input enough to listen to things you don't want to hear. In turn, even though his Ne wants to understand your needs and intentions, you cannot leave any of your intentions or expectations unstated in fear of him not meeting them or going around telling outsiders

Ronald B. M. Irvin allright message receive ! Alltough, maybe my backpack story wasn't a good exemple, because i do want to go alone. Its just a thought that i had afterwards... Saying : "its like talking to a wall" was more a way to say that he can be really conservative, more than questioning is inteligence. He probably is closer to is entp self than i am from my entj one. He also made much smarter life choices than me but from my point of view he is going right in the stagnation path... Anyway i don't want to decide of is life for him i just want us to have a better relationship like before ! Thank for your help i will work on that !

[As a disclaimer, I am writing this comment to get the book, not because I like to comment] However, on a more serious tip, you had mentioned the scenario of how ISFJs have asserted campaigns against individuals by manipulating other people's perceptions. I would argue that I have also seen ESFJs do this. So, I will probably have to review the ISFJs versus ESFJs to see if I had missed something. I also notice that of all the behind scene types, the ISFJ leads with perceiving while all of the other types in that category lead with a deciding function (It is a similar, but opposite case for ISTP). Does that has anything to do with the Fe being a parent function compared to Te when paired with the Si as the hero function? Btw, Can't wait to get the audio book for the 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene.
@CSJoseph

ESFJs do it in addition to ISFJs. The difference is that it is way more prevalent in ISFJs.
@tajmarie1329

I don't know whether you saw the second part of my question. However, I am curious as to whether there is a reason that the ISFJ personality is within the category of "Behind the scenes" despite leading with perceiving where as others lead with deciding such as INTP, INFP, and ISFP. Is this due to the fact that Si is married to the Fe function as the parent function?

Each interaction style has the odd man out in some capacity. This includes the ESTP vs. the other three structure types. Another example would be the ESFJ in the starters and the ISTP in the see it through types. I hope this answers your question. I will be doing a lecture on this.

I can’t tell if C.S.’s answer was supposed to be a joke or not, but regardless I thought I’d share a few thoughts too. :) I am an Isfp, and I also didn’t know what I wanted to do in the future. This is a question that many adults young and old struggle with, regardless of personality type. So don’t feel like you must know the answer :) Some people are very sure what they want to do in life, and many others need more time/trial and error for their own personal journey of discovery and that’s perfectly fine! Don’t let them stress you out :) I took some career tests, listened to my parent’s advice, and researched well paying jobs that are in demand and will continue to be in demand. There’s this one tip I also read: pay attention to moments when you feel a spark of enjoyment, wonder, creativity, etc in whatever task or hobby you may be doing. Even if it’s fleeting, hold on to that. And make a log of all those moments. This is a great way to figure out what you like. Sorry this was so long, but I hope I could lend some light onto your question! Best of luck to you :)

Also about not feeling good enough at the things you thought you were: I would say number one is don’t quit! I play the piano and violin and I’ve gone through some challenging stages with trying to improve and feeling like I’m not good enough. Idk what you may be going through, but one thing I did is to try to turn those feelings into action. What is it exactly that’s hindering you, and how can you seek the answer? Ask someone for help and teaching advice is a big one! And remember that failure is often needed in order to succeed. I wish you luck on your journey!

Abortion is child sacrifice. Period! so if everybody aborts it makes it right just because of typing? Nonsense! I watch a lot of his vids as an INFP, but the robotic way of looking at life through a tunnel only is narrow. He's not wrong in most but, his foundation is atheistic uncreative and cold and to focused on this personality thing as the be all. He's not low IQ at all but his intellect is to narrow. He will most certainly have a counter-argument, and I do understand that he bases his assumptions from his perceptions from the people he has met in his life as a foundation, but he must realise most listeners of this sort of thing are NFP/j because the other types don't give a damn about this stuff. I have never met an ENTP among my people. Sometimes we need to just go with the flow an not try to manipulate all people, although as an INFP I know we mind control people without knowing it, it's still not a good thing and though it may work in the short term, it does not go a long way in binding real friendships. With him as an ENTP, I will say spit out the bones. These vids although based in personality typing is still from an ENTPs perspective. He has arrogance in claiming that his typing is 100% correct.BS! Arrogance to the next level! but I will continue to listen to some of his stuff just because he is very good at what he does. I am no expert but and I do envy this objective way of thinking up to a limit. Chicks love him I have noticed. All I know is I don't want to be typed into a box when with people I meet, it superficial and shallow. Think of Slumdog Millionaire. I respect this guy a lot but damn he needs to research other things than just this stuff to get a grip. If a person has the guts to post on YT, they need to realize that they have influence, and influence is not always a good thing.
