How do you enable Remote ID on DJI Drones? - 2024 Mandatory UAV Remote Identification

Remote identification or RemoteID is from January 1st. 2024, it is mandatory in the EU for Drones like DJI Air 3, DJI Mavic 3 Classic, DJI Mavic 3 Pro, and all other DJI Drones to be operated in the open category in Europe under the New 2024 Drone Law. Strangely enough, I can't find a way to enable it in DJI Mini 4 Pro

The last firmware updates did at least seem to add a differentiation for the Plus battery and broadcast of Remote ID.

Governments doing what governments do. Adding pointless complexity and costs and privacy intrusions on responsible law abiding and rule following people. All in order to somehow stop people who don't follow safety rules, who don't care, who wont register themselves and their drones, from doing something bad. It's pretty clear that this is either due to complete incompetence in the rule makers or the rules being for another means entirely. I suspect it's a combination of both.

Been an RC flyer for decades (California) Jumped through all the hoops Registration ect. but i will not turn on the remote ID on my Mavic 2. Registration numbers on the aircraft should be sufficient. The governments need to think up better things to do. They can already track the vehicle you are driving. If the wanted to track my firearms that would be more worthwhile than infringing on recreational flyers.

While i do agree there needs to be rules and laws to minimise the idiots from doing stupid things with their drones, i fly safe and sensibly while always doing risk assessments, i will continue to fly the way i have always done in the UK and will NOT COMPLY to any new rules/laws/restrictions!

Remote ID does not come into affecting the UK yet as we are not in EASA. But it will be coming on the CAA are saying that all drones, including sub 250 will require it.

I’m moving to Portugal from the US. I have a Mavic 2 Pro from 2019 that I left there. Because of the new rules, I will either sell it or take it back to the States. Next week, when I return to Portugal, I’ll order the DJi Air 3. I already have my EUSA regristration but I don’t remember getting a 3-digit security code so that I can register my Air 3 when I get it. Where do I find my 3-digit security code? Is there a chance it was mailed to me in Portugal and perhaps arrived in my mailbox after I left Portugal to spend Christmas in the US? Great videos Henrick!

I legally declassified my C0 drone (DJI Mini pro 4) before the 1st Jan 2024, using DJI's official unlock. I will reclassify it as a C1 and technically that's what it will be when the DJI Cellular Dongle 2 and its attachment kit is attached to the aircraft, as that surpasses the 249g. However although the RC2 sees that the Cellular dongle is attached, it does not switch-on the UAS identification in the controller. It's missing. I guess I'm going to have to contact DJI to enable it.

Yes IT does. Unfortunately yes, if you are in Europe you must comply with the regulations established by EASA. And if you're in the U.S., the FAA is valid. I hope that a global regulation will be established in future.

As for the MP4 automatically only broadcast RID when using plus batteries and doesn't broadcast using M4P standard ultra light battery.. Mini 3 Pro broadcast all the time though regardless of which battery you use.

There are more drones that do not need to have a remote ID: - C0 (under 250g), C4 (de facto RC models) - drones put on the market before 1/1/2024 (Article 20 from EU 947/2019, they can operate in A1/A3) - privately built UAS operated under A1/A3

So drones like the Mavic Mini and Mini2 (as well as dozens of other drones) are effectively non-compliant as of yesterday in the EU? You would need some third party device to broadcast the remote ID which is really vague, which will take them over the 249g weight limit. Is that device even going to be compatible with the DJI Fly App? Good for the drone manufacturers as people may just upgrade their drone. Bad for the hobby as either people will just fly without remote ID or just give up on the hobby...

Not a fan of remote id, but great video anyway. BTW, the option for entering the UAS Remote identification isn't there on thr latest firmware for the Mini 3 Pro. I don't know what to do as I'm supposed to fly in the morning. We unfortunately have to live with the regulations.

I wish there were an idiot proof simplified way of doing this. Eg: When you start using the drone for the 1st time, you should be prompted to enter your National ID/Name/Handphone number, email etc then have a verification code sent to enter.. Then if you sell the drone, you just have another option below "CHANGE USER ID"/"DELETE USER ID", delete your details/ID and the new user has to start the process all over again.. No you can easily delete the remote ID and change it for something else

It seems, that all M4P drones, that have not been declasified in 2023, can switch to C1 and after they are approved by DJI, the line to enter the remote ID apears on the RC2, after you request the remove of the 120m limit. If the drone has been declasified from C0 to legacy drone and already has removed the 120m limit, this doesn't happen. DJI will send you the stickers, they will approve the change to C1 certification, even provide a PDF document with the serial number of your drone, but no matter what you do, the line to enter the remote ID will not show up. Using a Plus battery or M3P battery doesn't help. It just shows a pop up warning, that the weight is not C0 compliant any more, but that's it. Problem is discussed in the DJI Forum. Lot's of drone owners from all over Europe have the same problem, that they now have a C1 labled drone, that doesn't comply with C1 requirements, because it doesn't use remote ID. DJI is informed of the problem, but has no solution until now. DJI support in chat and on phone is helpless and has no clue at all. It's just a big mess. 😭

Hej Henrik. I have the mini 3 pro but there is no classification on my drone and there is no hight limit on my kontroler ether. But I bought it in december 2023. I also found out that I'm not sending any remote id but that's because I can't aktivate it on my drone or remote, but at the same time I'm asking about what to do if I mount that light on top of the drone so I can fly at night, because it makes my drone weigh 257 gr. and that's a C1, and that normally means that I need some special test here in DKto be able to fly it, doesn't it?

If yes, you will receive a firmware update after you upload proof of this change. This update will unlock the 500m. Regarding the remote id, I have no idea if this is mandatory in any way.

I might like to add, ur headline is unfortunately a little bit misleading. It's NOT by "law" as u claims. It's by "rules". Laws and legislation on country level is clearly separated from federal EU EASA rules. It's important to point out this since no law enforcement agents will approach you with fine graded scales asking for proof of registration and paperwork including flight logs.
