How do you guys measure success while living in Thailand? Granted we're not all drunk degenerates hanging out at lady bars and are trying to accomplish something during our short time here. Whether it's a financial goal, fitness goal, career goal, life goal, whatever comes to me, let's hear it.

65 year old. I define success as having complete self determination of how and where to spend the remainder of my life, unfettered by financial constraints, cultural obligations (kids are raised, businesses are self sustaining etc.). Your journey to Bangkok has been an inspiration.

Im 35, ive had a wife, business which ran itself, big house fast cars and all the toys. After sacrificing my 20s saving and investing and cradling the money my wife left me 4 years ago. On the way out she said that money was all i was focused on and the day i start caring more about people and myself then i will be successful. She had a beautiful soul and that really stuck with me. Over the last 4 years i slowly undone my old version of success and forged a new one. I lost 80 pounds got in the best shape of my life. Sold the business sold the big house and fast cars. Now i focus on my inner world. If i could define success: 1. Having freedom over your own time. 2. Being in the best health and shape of your life 3. Always trying new things and meeting new people 4. Having a healthy and positive outlook on life 5. Knowing that life is short and it doesn’t matter in the end so don’t take it so seriously.

Just clicked 64 years. For me, success is living life on my terms. That means the freedom to do anything, go anywhere, and be with who I choose. To get here, required a lot of dedication, sacrifice, and focus on financial goals. Is everything perfect? Far from it. Am I done? No way. I still want to learn new things everyday. I want to meet new people everyday. I want to experience new things everyday. Your expat adventures are awesome and you are writing your own story. That is success in my book. Enjoy your channel, keep up the great work.

After obtaining financial freedom 1 year ago at age 39, (I’m now 40) I was so obsessed with getting to that magic number. I’m now trying to figure out what my next goal is as sitting around and loathing in all my hobbies gets old. I’m learning after being “retired” for a year that it’s not all what it’s cracked up to be for me at least. I’m the type of person that needs goals and a journey. I’m tired of being a consumer and not producing anything. So I’ve decided to seek out part time work in a hobby I love (cycling) and do DoorDash and Uber 3 days a week to get out of the house. It’s about the journey not the destination. I also value health more than anything because health is wealth and you’re dead without it.

You’re too young to be retired anyway. Men aren’t wired to stop achieving in your 30’s and 40’s. For me, I wasn’t ready until my mid 60’s. I still miss tge hustle, and so will you. Now, it’s about preserving my wealth and living a good life each year.

I will turn 70 this year, now that is a number for you, and I have been living in Thailand since the late 70s. Love, health, fitness, freedom and a certain amount of comfort and beauty seem to do it for me. Living in Thailand since the age of 23 I have been through many phases and have found, like many things, success is kind of a moving target. You are not always satisfied with the same things as you age so get used to asking yourself these sorts of questions for many years to come.🙏

Hi, Forrest. I am in my early 30s and I too live and work here in Thailand. My measure of success is living each day in a way that you can be happy with. Considering our finite existence, and the fact that we could be gone at any moment, I put a lot of stock in cultivating meaningful experiences with those I love the most (my wife and child). While money is important, it is the simple things in life that truly bring me such joy. After becoming a father I began to truly appreciate this fact of life. When everything is a new experience for your child, watching that look of curiosity and joy in their eyes as they discover life's many joys fills me with such an amazing feeling. Anyway, I wish you and those watching a happy and fulfilling life that best fits you.

Definition of success by classic literary writers, who I completely agree with: 1. Emerson: helping others 2. Frost: making more choices in life, not just taking more risks 3. Thoreau: being able to have control over your own life 4. Blake: being able to appreciate the beauty and the ugly in life 5. Shakespeare: living happily, even when, at times, you're merely acting that way

33, going on 34 this year. Success is an onion, as you reach that level of success, it'll change and the layer of the onion falls off and a new one appears. Success is not a destination, it will change over time as you develop as a person. My version of success at this moment is when I am free of my W2 and living in Thailand. Once that is completed, my next level (layer) of success will be when I have control over my time and make a positive impact on peoples lives through financial education and financial literacy. Then eventually family, then etc, etc.

Everyone's definition of success changes as they age. But the basic themes that transcend age are (1) health and (2) freedom. Money is important only to the extent that they enable these two things as you personally measure them.

Forrest, I’m 58 and have just retired from a stressful job that I didn’t enjoy. Thankfully, I saved and invested from a young age, so financially I’m in a good place. One thing that saved me from the my mid-life crisis was to look inwards. I found yoga. Meditation and pranayama to be that next step. We often think about success in terms of money and fame however spirituality takes a back seat. So this time of reflection will be good for next phase in your life. Give your higher self an opportunity to come thru.

Approaching mid 30s now, success definenlty factors in money, 10M plus is a bit excessive in my opinion but what a goal that would be. Time/mobility is #1 for me as well, now this of course has to come with some level of money and wealth, but I dont want to sacrifice my entire life just to hoard money and not enjoy my time, its a balance like all things. I also think that in my 20s success was more about obtaining a certain job, fitting into society, driving a certain car etc. Now being financially free and living and enjoying life is really what I value.

Freedom had always been paramount for me. Having achieved a lot of freedom in recent years, I realised that freedom is worth nothing if there's no meaning to pair it with. Freedom is time x the ability to do what you want with it. But doing loads of things, all the time is but a symptom of not having found sufficient meaning. So I'm switching this around now. Having found true meaning and allowing it to become the center of my life is my new measure of success!! Not there yet but will be!! Great video!!!

68 years old. I am a retired Attorney from California, America. I also retired as a Colonel from the Army Reserve, with a pension. I still have two homes in market proof areas of Pasadena and LaJolla California. My pensions make me eligible for a Long Term Residency Visa. I have significant carry over from my pensions, month to month. My success is three fold, 1. I loved my Jobs, Criminal Defense Lawyer and Army Reserve Officer. Both were passions of love and both fit me perfectly. I loved going to work and Military Drill. 2nd. my children were given my full attention and my son is an Officer in the Army, next duty station Korea. My daughter is a Doctor doing her residency at Yale University. 3rd, I had the courage to change my life and move to Thailand. I got out of a marriage that was no more than a friendship, with no love or lust. I planned and made the leap and I am happy and therefore successful. Success today is enjoying the fruits of the past with a little adventure in the future.

@method341 I missed the passion, the touch, and the intimacy. Now, all relationships have their attraction and sex peaks and valleys but it's not supposed to morph into friendship with no intimacy. Relationships are a choice, men control access to relationships, women control access to sex. I know walking away is scary but its better than staying in an unhappy situation. I wasn't put in this world to just settle. I have never settled in my life. I tried in my relationship but in the end all my wife had to offer was a comfortable home and friendship. It wasn't enough for a man like me. I have had the time of my life for last 2 years here in Thailand.

Hi Forrest, mid 40’s here. My measure of success is giving myself a few short term and long term goals each year. One goal that I must achieve. One goal that I should achieve if I’m putting in some decent effort and one that is possible only if I am really focusing and motivated. Those goals change each year as does life. Sometimes it’s financial, sometimes it’s just personal(be happy and help every chance I’m able to). I’ve worked out that personal goals are the most rewarding in the short term to keep you happy and invested in life, in turn that mindset helps me keep motivated to push for the harder to reach goals. Keep up the great work mate, I really enjoy your view on life and you helped me refocus a bit last year when I found your channel.

Plus He's wayne Gretzky....lol I agree with Wayne, My son is a recent UCLA grad and my daughter is 28, sober for close to 3 years and supervises a sober living facility. Real life is messy what really is success? Who cares about it? Do people move to thailand to flex their success? No, they move there to live a less expensive life so Success in thailand to me based on that is haveing a full life, and living it as close to how you want as possible. Because of Covid, and immigration, My wife and I haven't been back to thailand since 2018. We are arriving on March 20 and staying for 35 days seeing family, and taking care of things including renting our house out in Chiangmai. I feel pretty successful because I can still support my wife and I when we return to southern california. Who cares what anyone else thinks about us? When we move to Chiangmai in the future when I retire, I'm not gonna be flexing or trying to keep up with the joneses. Gonna be traveling and living, like I'm doing now I guess.... I will say that that if success in life is a competition, watch the youtube video by "Ze Fran" "The Time You Have (In JellyBeans)" Having roller skated professionally for my first 20 adult years plus the 8 years before becoming an adult, there are few people that have as many "fun" days as I have had. 15 of those years a 5 minute walk from the sand in huntington beach. Was I rich? no, watch the jelly beans video. The object is at the end of your life, have a pile of jelly beans representing your fun days be the biggest pile possible. Doesn't have to be a competition, compete with yourself.

Hi Forrest, glad to see you back! Your coffee place in the morning: Kratangtiang cafe? For me, success is being able to do what you want to do in life, without being restrained by the lake of money. I used to manage a company, so for some that might me considered as success... but I was bored to death. Now I have two KZbin channels, that are still quite young, and I see myself as much more successful than in my previous management life, even if I can't yet live with my YT revenue. I think that means that, for me, at 57, success is freedom.... much more than power or richness! Also, if you have kids, success is being proud to see them live a happy life when they become adults.

34 here. My definition goes along your lines I think, and this is why I have been working hard towards early retirement - saving high salary percentages and investing in real estate and stocks etc. For me, to be successful, I need to be able to not be tied down in one place unless by pure personal freedom of choice. To be able to pack my bags and travel wherever I like without the financial burden attached and stay, eat whatever I like. I don't at all mean luxury travel. I just got back from Thailand myself for the first time and lived modestly there having a blast. I'm at the point where I have some very decent savings and could travel months or perhaps years, but I don't want to sacrifice my job for this currently. But this isn't enough I have been thinking. More recently, I have been wanting to start a family also. Find love and have some children that I share a stress-free life of abundance with. At this point in time that's my goal for success

I'm 22 and my definition of success is owning multiple fast cars, living in a big house, having a hot gf, at least 5mil usd net worth, good health, free time to do what you want, and eventually having a family.

My level of success is going to enjoy life when you can, you don’t have to live a really luxury life , sometimes just live simple and treat yourself to nice stuff once while. I rather live a non luxury life life when i am in my 40 than in my 60’s . When you in your 60’s your body changes and you can not enjoy thw stuffs you can enjoy more when your in your 40’s of 50’s. . I just turn 50 living in California, bay area, and i just come back from Bangkok, i will come back again in Bangko 2:53 k in august. Hope we can get a coffee or a beer one day, i have been watching all your videos 👍 oh yea, thanks for all the info and advice living in Thailand

I could do without the constant generic graphics. There's nothing wrong with a simple walk and talk, in fact it's nice to see what's going on around different locations.

I'm 54. I've traveled through 80+ countries and lived in 8 of them. I've had really good jobs and have worked in private practice. I been happily married for 20+ years. I have friends and family around the world who I can rely on if I need to. I've managed to invest and save enough money that I can be picky about the jobs I accept. I've never thought about whether or not I was successful, but I'm pretty content with how my life has worked out and, overall, the decisions that I've made. Am I successful? 🤷

Success to me means having a child/children(even though I'm a single father), and attaining the highest financial goals you can achieve based on your skills/knowledge/networking abilities/etc. Just like you, I am very hard on myself as I often compare myself to others who might have a built-in advantage (ie trust fund kids), but in the back of my mind, depending on what you've accomplished and learned over the years (hopefully not making the same mistakes), I know that I'm doing pretty good right now. In my 20's, 30's and 40's you make amateur mistakes (and that's perfectly normal)...but now in my 50's I feel that I'm sowing some of the hard work and efforts brought forth probably starting 10-15 years ago.

I will be 50 this year. I worked hard in my 20's$$$ I spent my 30's in LOS. Was diagnosed with kidney disease in my late 40's. I'll soon be getting a kidney transplant and new lease on life. I am excited about returning to my home in Thailand. Success is financial comfort and doing what one enjoys. I'd enjoy doing an interview for your channel. I did a Zoom collab with Thairish Times. I am a Luklung, Thai-American. I always enjoy your content. Don't be lazy and hit me up😂

61 years old. Raising my kid and enjoying time now with my grandkids and seeing them thrive has been a major part of life. Having a plan for my finances and seeing it work out is good. Being healthy and not needing any pills is a bonus. Sounds corny, but waking up in the morning and looking out at the view and drinking a cup of tea is one of the best things. Having lived my life so far mostly was able to live it how I wanted and not some shitty 9 to 5, travelled around and women in many ports.

Small-scale success: being able to live the way you please. Medium-scale success: Warren Buffet defines it as "Measuring your success by how many of the people you want to have love you actually do love you." Large-scale success: Their contributions improved the quality of life for mankind, such as Martin Luther King Jr., Mother Teresa, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford....etc.

A sixty something Thai woman traveled to Hokkaido, Japan for the first time in her life. After 6 days of trip, she asked this question. Ever since I arrived in Japan, I smell something really nice. What is it? Is it perfume or some kind of air freshener? I'd pay a million baht for it. The fact was there was nothing. It was her first time breathing clean air and she didn't even know what it was.

Turning 52. I’m not sure there is a definition of success. Once you meet whatever goal you set for yourself then what? I think it’s about finding peace and accepting yourself for who you are. Accepting your strengths as well as your weaknesses. Learning the things to care about and trying not to care about that things that don’t deserve the energy. I learn more from my failures than my successes and have learned to enjoy the failures as well. Try not to worry so much.

Algorithms took me to your channel and I've only watched a few videos (did subscribe) so I don't know your entire background/interests, but maybe your focus at this age (if I were in your shoe) is to consider if your current relationship with your GF is correct, both-aligned directionally, and specifically in terms of starting a family together...especially if you don't want to be that 'old man' to a young child. So, not only is the clock ticking for 'her' (whoever she is), but the clock is also ticking for you Forrest Lee. Am I on the right track here ??? Perhaps for YOU, this is your current path to 'success', and btw I am an 'old dad' age 53 to a 9 year old child, but circumstances was such that this was what happened. I didn't plan on this...sometimes in life things happen for a reason on its own.

I'd say success should be defined by combining all areas of life. Being healthy and in-shape, which includes not smoking, not drinking too much, but going to the gym a lot, etc. Having a great finances, which implies measuring your net income up to a certain point (let's say 150.000 dollars net per year is sufficient). Having great relationships, which includes a wife.

Great video Lee. Americans like yourself have been coming here in great numbers for over 50 years. A few pass away over there every year. But at the end of the day 1) your health is your wealth, and 2) Financially - it's all about money: As long as your debts are paid off and your bank account and savings are growing nonstop - you will be ok.

There are 8 billion people in the world and everyone has to find away to live, which requires making money. The problem is how to get from your current situation to your long term goal. You have to save money today to have more tomorrow. I’m retired and I have more now than ever had. A dog will do more if he gets a little treat.

Your video is very timely for me. Nice to see you again. I'm 73 years old this year. I retired to Mexico in 2012... But then moved to Thailand 2015 and have lived 70% of my time since then.. In Thailand... However... I'm not that happy... Again 555...and I'm missing México. I miss.. I think... Sidewalks that I can freely walk on. I miss good restaurant service. I miss good music and watching Mexicans enjoy life. But... Mostly.. I miss the feeling of community... Something that has eluded me in Thailand.. Hua Hin.. Krabi.. Chiang Mai... Nope... Never had that here. In fact... I've probably spent a total of a few hours over the gears talking to Thai me. Thai women.. Ha... Easy to chat with. Neither are interested in me... Who I am. Mexicans are curious... and very welcoming and friendly. Thai.. Not so much. Success for me is happiness. I'm not so happy right now... The pandemic aftermath is still hanging over many parts of the planet like a dark storm cloud... So if I return to México... Why would I be happier... Community.. I think

Hi Forest, Ive been thinking the same stuff recently. Been here 5 years. That offer of coffee is still available if you fancied catching up. I'm at Samrong, free anytime. I won't spill my story on here (never wise), but I'm sure you have been through much of the same as me. Thailand is everything, buts it complicated, and it will destroy you if you don't tame it in your mind. Anyway talk soon, Tony

Expat kid here. Grew up in Bangkok. Dad worked for the US state department in the 90s/. Damn I miss Bangkok. Went to Bangkok international school in middle school. No drinking age. Those were the days. Miss Bali too and Phuket and Singapore. I see so many you tube videos about SEA nowadays. Back then there was none of these videos lol. Do what makes you happy! That’s success! Don’t always measure it in dollars or bitcoins. But measure it in happiness! I gained my financial freedom at age 25 with Bitcoin. Now i live in Bhutan and travel.
