Ok... I have yet to see a better tutorial on baitcasters... and I’ve seen a lot!!! I do birds nest way more than I think I should and you have nailed my problem right on the nose!!! I’m the big over the head bomber that gets a birds nest every time when the lure stalls out in mid air. Great video!! Great explanations!! And you have saved me a ton of future grief!!! Thanks so much!!

I watched a ton of tutorials and now i know that i was way too confident that i would nail it when i get my baitcaster. Now i got my baitcaster, i'm trying to just practice cast it inside my home and i can't even cast it 2 meters away without a backlash. I got frustrated right away. Watching this video gave me a huge moral boost and inspiration. Don't know what you did different than all the other guide videos, which i have to admit i watched some really good ones too, but there is something in the way you explain how to do things just gave me the courage i need again. Thanks man, i'll just go practice and practice a lot when i got the time for it. Cheers from Turkey.

I swear that was my EXACT thought. The best tip I learned from this video that none of the hundreds of others mentioned was how much to tighten the spool thing. Everybody else says that you want your lure to drop when that thumb button thing is pressed. Mr. Kk says that a noob like me should have it a little bit tighter. As I learn I'll loosen it more as I go.

This is hands down my favorite account to learn from as the beginner I am. I even brought the Speed Demon reel(older model) with a frog specific rod from Dobyns(heavy fast tip). This is my first ever baitcaster. So imagine my disappointment when you mention that's a tough way to learn because its stiff and won't do most of the "throwing" for you. So any additional tips for someone learning on a heavy rod w/ fast tip?

How does the absence of the centrifugal brake benefits the Speed Demon vs the Assassin? I'm a bit confused: more expensive reel but less components? So is the centrifugal brake beneficial or just a gimmick?
@KastKing7 жыл бұрын
The unique tri lateral brake system makes it so that the stopping power is all around versus being bunched up on only one side. a full circle of brake stopping power versus just a half side or even a less. Lastly, centrifugal brakes are not a gimmick just another engineering option.
@BenZopilas7 жыл бұрын
10,000 Karma points to you for taking time to answer my question. A lot of companies wouldn't bother even when they're charging top dollar for their products. So big THANK YOU!!!! By "the gimmick" I didn't mean to offend the centrifugal break. I know it's a working thing. But what confuses me is that my understanding is that it is cheaper/more cost effective to spread the magnets in a tri-lateral brake system than manufacture a centrifugal brake. So then the logical solution would be to get rid of the centrifugal break in all reels and equip them with tri-lateral system = lower cost = higher profit or even lower price = more sales = more profit :)

At 44 years old, I had all but given up on bait casting reels. First off, I’m a blue collar guy who neither has the time nor money to be on the lake every moment I get free, so time necessary to get good at these things hasn’t been an option. Secondly, the price point of the reels and poles alone will scare the average person away. Lastly, when the planets all align-as well as kids ball games, wife’s honey do list, and my bank account-and I finally get out on the water, the LAST thing I want to do is pick out bird nests and be completely frustrated, where the pole and reel both get casted into the lake out of sheer anger and frustration! That said, I came across some videos and reviews of the speed demon, and I’ve studied it as much as possible. I bit the bullet and ordered it. It arrived today and I was so excited. I opened the box to a beautiful reel and about hyperventilated realizing I still know nothing about them and I’ll probably screw something up very quickly. Your video was insightful but not necessarily directed at the complete idiot(novice, I mean) like me. Can you spell it out in steps from box to rod to water to maintenance so that I can figure these things out? Thanks in advance. Sincerely, Tim

Update: With the help of a local bait shop owner, the reel is spooled and working perfectly. I love it. I backlash a bit but nothing major, and I can make that stop by tightening it up even more- - all of this isn’t the reel but my personal inexperience. Thanks to KastKing for a great product.

The brakes on the kastking royal legend and the stealth are NOT centrifugal brakes..the nubs don't extend any further than when you originally flick the tab.. I feel they're absolutely useless. The brakes on the assassin are amazing and are centrifical brakes. The speed demon, it's worth mentioning, even though it only has the standard magnetic braking that "every baitcaster has" it really is different. The magnetism is equally dispersed over the whole spool making it much more effective.

Thank you Sir, These tips have helped me understand some very critical points of backlash. I have one question, i have a Kastking royale Legend Il baitcaster, how much mm braided line n how many strands (4 or 8) will perform better on it. Pl suggest. Thank you
@Stan_Halen4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure about that reel specifically as for how much line they take(I'd assume like most baitcasters so 90-130yds), but for 4 vs 8 strand it really depends on what you're doing. The short and sweet of it is, 8-strand is 'smoother' so its good for longer casts/open water fishing. 4 strand feels more 'coarse' and is good at cutting through vegetation and being more like a jigging/bottom fishing line. The age-old analogy all tackle shops use to make it easy to remember is 8 strand=highway tires, and 4 strand=off-road diggers.

I need a better rod….as I try to over hand cast the lure went straight down 10-15 feet in front of me… rod tip I believe is too stiff(cheap 5.6 length Walmart spin cast rod)… also I noticed my thumb leaving the spool more as I try to over hand it… I was able to under hand and side hand better but again, as I side hand it my aim always went too far to the left (right handed cast). Again I believe my rod tip is too stiff. ‘But”fortunately I caught a couple of nice brookies while practicing the first time. Yea: I hand some bird nesting also, but as the day progressed I got better with less and less bird nesting… (Monofilament) I’ll change it out to Braid soon! Thanks!!

In my opinion (as a non-tournament, amateur fisherman), learning to properly use a baitcasting reel is a waste of time. I don't believe there is anything a baitcasting reel the size of the one in this video can do that an equivalent sized spinning reel can't. The time spent learning to cast a baitcaster (and the time spent picking out bird's nests) can be much better spent learning cast a spinning reel as accurately as a baitcaster, with a whole lot less frustration.

I’m mostly a spinning reel guy and I always fish from the bank, lately I decided to go with a bait caster when I go for largemouth bass specifically, just about everything else is spinning. Once you get the hang of bait casting it really is more accurate. Being able to feather the spool so much easier than a spinning reel allows you to drop that bait pretty much right where u want it and you can even salvage a bad cast and steer it towards the right spot. They also have more backbone which really helps with fishing through weeds, feeling bites, hopping your bait and especially setting the hook. Sure I still backlash once in awhile… but I’m starting to see why all the pro largemouth bass anglers mostly use casting equipment.
