You didn’t really explain it tho. It’s convection. Wax heats up, hottest portions separate and float to the top, hot wax cools up at the top and so slowly floats back down. Also it should be noted that both the wax and water must be treated with chemicals to bring their respective buoyancies to near equilibrium otherwise the wax would just stay in the bottom. The water is treated with a saline solution and the the wax used to be treated with the active ingredient used for dry cleaning but they probably have something less toxic now.

Yes. Wax and water are both chemically treated to bring their buoyancy close to equilibrium so when certain areas of the wax reach a certain temperature their buoyancy exceeds that of the water and they float to the top until it cools enough to sink back to the main blob of wax.
