looks like the resistance is created by the magnet pulling on the metal flywheel. The closer it gets = more resistance. Common sense. I could be wrong tho. That's my guess.

There's a flywheel with magnets inside. When you adjust resistance you move those magnets closer to the flywheel or farther. When the magnets are close to the metal wheel the magnetic force is slowing down the wheel and vise versa.

Heres a question though. When my machine is unplugged from mains power its automatically set to the highest resistance so i just use it on that (its cheap, im not strong). After about 30 minutes or so though it seems to "lose" resistance and it becomes slightly easier to pedal. Why is this?

seems like eddy currents - the closer the piece of metal gets to the magnet, the more eddy currents are induced in the metal and the harder it is to turn the wheel.

Hi all! Do you think it's possible to increase the resistance even more. I mean, I have a similar one and I find the resistance could be heavier even on the max setting. Like could more magnets be added to existing permanent magnet to increase - you guessed it - magnetism and therefore resistance?

@ElectronicsComputers

I'm not familiar with that model but they all have similar construction. By adjusting the cable near the flywheel you can move magnets closer or farther to the flywheel's edge which will increase or decrease the tension. Also make sure that the drive belt is not loose or stretched .

I recently purchased a spin bike for my fiancee so she can continue to workout at home. However, we realise that the resistance is not working as per normal and that it will only sort of take effect and gain resistance after we turn the knob 90%. By the time there is a change in the resistance, it gets too difficult for anyone to continue riding. As an avid rider herself, she wishes to continue spinning with the resistance challenge. Do you have any tips or advice as per how I can fix the issue? Sorry I'm at my wits end and I cant find any solutions.
@ElectronicsComputers
@ElectronicsComputers 4 жыл бұрын
Double check the cable it has multiple connection. When you spin the knob does it move the magnets inside of the wheel? Maybe you just need to tighten the cable. First of all check if the knob transfers any movements to the magnets.

Hi is this different from a spin bike?
@ElectronicsComputers
@ElectronicsComputers 4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely different! ! The flywheel weight is attached to the pedals to control inertia. The rider determines the intensity of the workout by operating either a knob or a lever that controls tension to the weighted flywheel. Turning the knob increases or decreases tension, simulating ascending and descending a hill on a road bike.

It works using an Eddy Current Brake principle. Basically when a magnet is close to a spinning object made of a metal not attracted to magnets e.g. Aluminium probably in this video, the spinning of it generates a resistant magnetic field which slows the disk down.
