It seems absurd that they make people come to work during a typhoon, but then don’t let them in to a park with a few little branches on the ground

So the owner of the medical centre makes his workers to come to work and has to pay them on a day he wont get any customers so it just cost him a load of money to have the workers there. Owner isn't too smart.
@andresiniesta9955
@andresiniesta9955 6 жыл бұрын
Keeping a medical centre open is sometimes about the ethics of it. You don't close a medical centre just because you don't make money for a day or 2. Also, they probably would be required by law to pay their workers anyway, so it wouldn't cost the owner more money to have workers there. I doubt they are paid by the day or hour. Also, I would bet that for some workers, maybe in other sectors, they would WANT to be able to go to work because they would be afraid of getting a day's worth less wage, especially if they are from the lower income group. It all really depends. I guess we'll just have to give Winston the benefit of the doubt and trust him that Vivi's employer's just being a dick. There's always bound to be some of them.

Andreas I'm from a developing country and I can totally understand why that Chinese person is delivering food. He wants to deliver the food, he doesn't want to lose income, he needs the money. He would want to deliver the food even if his boss doesn't want him to. His job is his life, he needs to feed his family. He definitely wants to go to work. I know I would. Middle class or rich people won't understand.

In Hong Kong it really depends on the line of work you do. In my case I work in a hotel and I still had to walk to work on the day during the time the typhoon was hitting its hardest. The thing is that if I didn't show up at work, my colleague on the previous shift would have to do a double shift which I personally felt wouldn't be fair. There were also colleagues in other departments who had to stay inhouse for the two days due to not being able to leave because of the typhoon. A lot of them had to work 16+ hours each day before being able to take a break for a few hours and continuing again afterwards. After the two days they were both physically and mentally drained. However none of this is of course appreciated by the guests who stay in the hotel and would continue to complain on minor issues. We understand that being paying customers they have certain expectations, but a lot of times we appreciate being treated as equal human beings.

As a German I am really envious about the quality of your cellphone networks. I live in one of the biggest cities in Germany and A LOT of times I have no or very low signal with the best provider money can buy. Going into rural areas or small villages? Forget about your signal once you do that. And now check how small Germany is compared to China, even then we can't get a good network of towers.

As a Chinese student in Frankfurt, I'd say that's actually one of my major complaints about living in Germany... When I was in China I could get 4G+ most of the time, even when I was camping at the top of one of the highest mountains, Tai shan, in China, I get full 4G connection all the time. But in Frankfurt I have only occasionally 4G in extremely open area or H+ most of the time. Everytime I get into shopping malls, especially those Rewe or DM in the basement I have only weak 2G connection. I'm currently using Tarif von O2, some people told me maybe Vodafone provides better signal? (But also way more expensive...) Hopefully Deutsche Telekom is gonna be better in the future! ❤️🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪

USA exact opposite. the news reporters go outside pretending they can't even stand up because of the powerful winds and meanwhile people stroll by behind them in the shot like it's any other day. one reporter got in a raft in the street talking about how bad the flooding was and a guy walks behind in the shot and the water is only ankle deep. they claim it's going to be a category 4-5 and it's a 1. they evacuate people unnecessarily and cause panic. the highways get clogged with traffic and become parking lots and people run out of gas. the worst part is that when we do get hit with a truly dangerous storm, like katrina in new orleans and maria last year in puerto rico, the local government does absolutely NOTHING to prepare for the problems they KNOW the storm will cause (down trees blocking roads, down utility poles and power lines, flooding, etc) so they can IMMEDIATELY get to work as soon as the storm is over. because the media and politicians all cry wolf so often and try to sensationalize the storms, people just ignore them.

I’m glad you made it OK trough the storm as you were helping your wife. I would have done the same. Sadly, places with a seemingly endless supply of labor may not show the same level of interest in the well being of their labor force than places with a limited labor force.

Oh, Holly Molly ...and Whoever! Thank Gods and Whoevers that you Winston and yours, survived this disaster in good health! PS. That was a year ago from today - how haven't I seen this film before? Maybe I started tuning to your broadcasts some time after. Anyway - I subscribe, and I watch your videos every so often, and thanks for the remindings. And I wish you all the best everywhere. Always love! - from Warsaw, Poland.

Good Barrier! Glad you and your wife made it through the storm! That's a lot of damage! :O Crazy that money is more important than staying safe... Also very cool to know that China has such a robust communication network. Thanks for doing a walk through of the area after the storm. Puts things into perspective. Glad to see things are getting back to normal. Best wishes! Stay Awesome! :D

How did some of those buildings survive that you showed us in your "China is crumbling" video. Some of those building were only 5 years old. When weather like that happens do buildings ever collapse?

I'd like to say this "everyone in China has a cellphone" is an exaggeration, but it's really not. I was in Shenzhen at a bar with some friends when an 80 something year old woman with a hunchback came around to the various outdoor tables trying to sell roses. I felt bad because she was quite elderly and not in great health (and this was at around 11PM that she was still out trying to sell), so we decided to buy some flowers from her. Before we can even get our wallets out, she whips out her mobile phone with "WeePay" ready to go. WHAT?!

China is as big as America but it's only "first world" in the coastal areas. Go west of the coast and you'll find one billion poor Chinese without running water and no cellphones.

jim9685769 Apparently you have not been anywhere west of the coast, there are many poor places in China, I was in a small mountain village in Gui Zhou for an education program for one month in 2016, very poor place, no running water, just like you said. Guess what, most of the villagers has cellphone! No, not everyone has it like in the cities, but at least every family has one. The funny part is, no one has a land line phone, because there's no land line available but the cell phone signal is very good.

No report of death until now from shenzhen city. People staying in poor constructed house or in temporary house spent their days in some public shelter. But property damage is huge and universal. Thanks for your concern.
