What's the mechanism behind how coffee protects your liver? Well, it turns out coffee is incredible at doing several things. First, it lowers cell growth. So if you have cancer cells that rapidly divide, coffee will slow their growth. Coffee also stimulates the breakdown of cells. In other words, cancer cells die faster. That's called apoptosis. Another thing coffee does is decrease liver fat. So it helps to prevent things like fatty liver, which can also lead to liver cirrhosis scarring and requiring people to get liver transplants. Lastly, it lowers oxidative stress and reduces inflammation-optimal amount is three to four cups a day, caffeinated or decaffeinated.

Coffee gives my dad liver pain and has done so for many years consistently. So he rarely has it. Mechanistics & theories are one thing, but do we have actually controlled trials showing the effects?

@@TheGlowingOneeThat’s not a “Duh” situation. Many people don’t know the specifics. It easy to just say some shit like “to much of anything is bad for you”. You need to know the “Why?”.
