Though I think I'm an INTJ, I sadly relate more to control than movement. However, by your test for eating meals I tend to inhale food unfortunately, both under stress and because of having worked in crappy places with only 10 minute breaks along with nosey coworkers which want to interrupt anything I do to gossip endlessly. I tend to hate chaos, though I do work faster when I have to battle chaos to make order. I prefer not to have stress from chaos, but it does make it easier to work in a sense because it's easier to see what needs to be done; while everything is in order, I tend to get lazier... because it feels like there isn't so much for me to do then. I mostly relate to your INTJ description, just it doesn't seem so on this matter.

60 Minutes did a feature on an Israeli conductor, who formed a symphony orchestra using music students from Palestine, Israel, Iran, and Syria, all of them political enemies... The interviewer from 60 Minutes accused the man of liking controversy, but the man, probably an ENTP/INTP 'movement' type, said he was just doing what he felt was right, which was an Israeli with compassion for Palestine. So he brought these so-called enemies together to prove that he could create order out of chaos. They performed beautifully together, enough that 60 Minutes did a story on them, showing the world that they are enemies by environment but not by nature

While I don't necessarily enjoy chaos, I know how to navigate through a chaotic situation and find opportunities to improve my lot. Chaos can be fun because I like to watch people freak out while I'm already seeing my way through it. And I really like to do everything quickly. I almost always finish my food before everyone else when we go out to dinner. I don't like to tarry. If I understand correctly, movement types can start and stop on a dime without a whole lot of Need for knowing what exactly it is they're trying to do, whereas control types have a hard time stopping and starting and once they do start, they tend to need to keep going to stay focused. Not sure if this is correct, but I will do some cross-referencing of types and their behaviors to see if this matches up

My aunt (ENFJ) can't imagine how easy it is to provide good counselling for others, when I have a problem, that I can't solve quick enough for here . As an INFJ this problem is the very cause of my growth and learning. This growth and learning is the motivation for me to express my self and the solutions for others , when asked. MY mind orders the big picture quickly ,I think this is my Ni in action . But having a little to medium chaos is fun. I prefer this chaos over stagnation. Let things move, even in the wrong direction. We can course correct later. For me as a movemt types that tend to finish projects, this an interesting adventurous mental challenge that I love. Most control people don't get that.

After rewatching your 3 interaction style videos, I seem pretty ENTJ'ish, rather than INTJ'ish... You said in the introduction video to season 15 that it seems to be easier for people to identify interaction styles but not so easy to identify temperaments... I think it's the opposite for me. I'm pretty damn sure that I am pragmatic, systematic and abstract, but I cant tell for the love of lemonade which interaction style I fall into! I really think that 'practise exercises' system that I mentioned in my previous comment (direct vs informative video I think) will be useful tho. However, I am actually a pretty slow person (when I'm not driving). I think this is because I'm often deep in thought. Also I eat slow because 1) I want to savor the food, or 2) because I'm focused on something else and the food becomes more of a snack on the side to graze upon. I definitely feel troubled when things stay the same for too long. After about 6 months at a new job when I've gotten the job down, I start looking for another position or career direction. I just always had to do something to feel like I’m accomplishing stuff, never understood why, I still don’t but I can at least accept that it’s natural to me. I think nurture can greatly impact how we see ourselves and how we type ourselves. I believed I was a movement type for years. Our culture seems to value expediency, and I would set up my own processes to that end, to meet the demand for timely service. But, in every day life outside of work, I didn’t do this, I did things on “my time,” taking as long as I want to do things. I feel I have better control that way. I still approach tasks with a method, but the goal is accuracy, not speed. I prefer doing things right the first time, rather than doing things over because I was rushed and made mistakes in the initial attempt. If I go at a pace faster than I am comfortable, mistakes will be made, it’s a given. So everything needs a process or method applied, to be performed over and over until I become faster at doing it, through practice.

I often made decisions way too quickly when I was young, slowing down was beaten into me at school. These days I have gotten more cautious of making fast decisions based on the situation despite wanting to act quickly. I still find it hard to linger anywhere. The very long Lockdowns in Melbourne, Australia drove me crazy as we weren't allowed to work. The stagnation was hell. A situation I found hard to decide was my new direction in life, I was a draftsman for years and got bored with it, I was looking for a new career that matches my thinking style with concrete thinking and some physical activity. I finally decided to pursue a career as an electrician. I do have trust issues with authority figures due to my former employer ripping me off and betraying me. I'm an effective driver with fast reflexes too. I do eat slowly due to having a dental cap thats somewhat fragile so I have to eat carefully. - ISTP

Reading the comments is always interesting. The ones about you defining your terms and then using them consistently reminded me of conversations with my ex-husband, both of us INTJs. Sometimes he talked so intensely and fast that he sort of blurred the definitions of words as he went. I'd get confused and stop him for clarification, which ticked him off. I was always saying, "words have meaning!" Now that I'm away from him and in better shape I can see that I do the same same thing. It's kind of funny. I know that anyone of any type can be terrible and that type has a lot to do with the ways in which we are terrible. But I never -- he never hit me, but one of my ex-husband's last two girlfriends got in touch with me recently to find out if he ever did. It's shaken me. I never, ever want to be that for anyone. Two different ways to be INTJ and thank HEAVEN for it. I understand how he got like that, but holy crap, why wouldnt he fight like hell to avoid it? He just kept justifying and justifying every tiny slide downhill and getting ticked off at me for being worried about it. So he became what he hated. Any of us could do the same. Chase -- I get it. ISFJ is the scary superego because of its capacity for vengeance. We get angry FAST and triple movement kicks us right to our superego to get the payment we "deserve". He's been living there for YEARS. And that's why Jesus commanded us to forgive: so that we won't live in our superego and become monsters. I am a very blessed woman. Very. But I’m ENTJ and I noticed how you differentiated this type a bit in a sense that it may seem impulsive or make decisions fast cause the plan was already in their head for long enough. I admit I find the control vs movement distinction very difficult because it seems like neither is a good match for me. I'm pretty sure I'm INTJ. I'm very sure I'm introverted/responding and also pretty direct. That means I should be movement according to the grid. The way you explain the difference however, leaves me with doubts: - I like things going forward, no problem with that - I however do not like chaos because I perceive chaos as hindering progress. On the other hand, an INTJ is "structured". Maybe it's a language barrier problem (English is not my mother tongue), but for me structured is opposed to chaos. - your grid lock example doesn't work for me: over here when the highway gridlocks, there's no point leaving because you can be sure the smaller roads will be gridlocked too. - I'm fairly patient when I'm stuck in traffic, not because I like it but because raging about it is not helpful. Perhaps that's more about experience/maturity than about personality, because it certainly bothers me. On the other hand, I would expect it to bother everyone. In addition to this, I feel like the way the difference is explained sounds more like a temperament style instead of an interaction style.I suppose I could simply ignore this distinction since the grid works perfectly with only the other 2, but that would mean missing out on verification, something I value highly. I'm not sure if you still follow up on videos you posted more than a year ago.Just in case you do: thank you for all the effort you put in this. While I feel they are at least 5 times longer than what's needed to present the information in them, I do value your insights Edit: I found a text from Linda Berens where she calls this Outcome vs Process focus instead of Control vs Movement. That sounds more understandable, at least to me :)

Is outcome control or movement? Is process movement or control?
@phoenixvision1004 жыл бұрын
Kip Higginson I think outcome is movement, meaning someone is moving fast to get to an end result. They are not trying to be perfect, just move and get something done. Whereas control is more process oriented, with the person taking their time to get things done “right.” I think movement/outcome aligns to expensive and fast, in his analogy. And control/process aligns to cheap and high quality, in his analogy. I am an INFP IT project manager and coach, and this really makes sense to me.

I tend to drive fast a lot, (not so much now that i have discovered my new car has cruise control haha), yet i find i also require control a great deal in certain areas. Not that im organised or OCD in my manner by any means, but i prefer to do things a certain way, and go at my own pace a lot. In terms of preference, i deffinitely would prefer control in the things i do and when i need to complete a project or paper i often organize all things around me pertaining to this project and go step by step. Based on this i deem myself a control type.

I think the cognitive focus of someone make him/her to show more or less of certain interacting styles. Like intp who is shadow focused is likely to be more control than subconscious focused intp.

OOOKAY Mr C.S. Joseph! You promised to read and answer all the comments in some previous video, so i'll wait for one too... First. I want to thank you for your work, it's like the most helpful and structured stuff I was searching for through the MBTI/ Typing community... realized most people are just confused as fuck, and got me confused too Second.C Now to my real question.. I am working my way through your videos for like a week already and before that I had a confusion whether INTJ or INTP ( I know the functions are different,and I read them too, but the function description somehow both appealed to me so I never was completely sure) I watched the 3 videos from S15 and came out with even more questions than I had before! 1. Direct vs Informative : I was a quiet but bossy child, meaning I did not talk much, but when I did it was short statements, or what I wanted others to do.. go to A do B . Now .( I'm 24 ) I realized that my speaking patterns are fucked up and block me off from communication when I want it. So I 'trained' to speak in a more fluent and soft way over time, which following your definitions is more informative. Most of the time I am the most relaxed and laid back person, like constrantly high with no drugs e.g. But then again, if I realize the situation is going nowhere, or out of control ( bad course basically) and I take over from the previous " leader" or just take this role I get the imperative tone, I become direct I deligate, may even become harsh... no emotions at all.. only stating facts and rationalize what and how to do stuff. 2. Initiating vs. Responding: This confused me a lot. Like I said most of the time I don't give a damn. I am at home all alone, rarely with a friend ( and I don"t have many and consider myself and introvert in this case, but then again I can be in social gatherings when the people around me are close friends - they just don't drain me this much, unknown people do.and I also never really consciously search for them, ... I don't really think I need people and try to be self-sufficient mostly ). I respond most of the time, this would be my preferred modus operandi, I don't initiate conversations ( most of them are just stupid rating of I like vs he likes and what is better stuff.. disgusts me. and I find myself interested in real life problems and optimization of human systems like politics, socio-economic worldly perspective... all this 'big-picture' stuff the MBTI speaks about. So back to topic, I don't have any troubles initiating an informational session for myself. Where I go ask a question get the info I wanted ... and that's it. I can ask anybody of anything if it's a direction like in your example or a girl to go out or a dance if I'm interested. ( I think I got this from my ExSx dad but it doesn't bother me). Would it still follow your logic if I'd be direct and basically initiating a response from myself ? Initiating the other to be informative when I need it, something like this? The thing is I don't have a problem with than and rarely when I see people around me are having troubles to connect and communicate I can take this role up to myself and start conversations too. Or when I really need stuff from people at the university and initiate conversations to get information. 3. Control vs Movement.... This one confused me MOST! Thanks for that ;) I love structuring everything. I create boxes of boxes and put folders of and in folders when using the browser or music. I like to have control over people or situations and know what's happening... but on the other hand I feel like I am good with improvising situations ( not people... got me hurt a couple of times ), by that I mean to get a plan of how to get from A to B and what needs to be done for that .. That would be Movement but I'd never say that I love chaos myself... on the other hand I feel rather energized physically moving, going ( always had people tell me I am going to fast) somewhere doing something.. And had this picture of needing to lead people to do stuff from a tent on a mountain or a tower... also your example about the sure and the fast way... I do not drive a car ... and I don't really have a drive to learn driving ( which also is a lot like your example of INTJ's) but I like moving forward a lot... going in the right direction rather than to wait for a tram e.g Also I am watching your videos while I have to write essays basically procrastinating.... so I do inflict chaos? Man that's crazy ))) It confuses me , because like I said I can be different in different situations and how do I find out if I am just a ( I am pretty sure about NT) lazy INTJ ( direct,resp,mov. seems and kinda feels more authentic ) or other combinations that in reallity seem to differ alot... Sorry for the long text, hope you can focus this long and give me your opinion on this.. I am sure it'll help others too, to define their tendencies.

If movement types supposedly embrace chaos, then isn't it rather odd that half of the types that are movement types are J types? (ESFJ, INFJ, INTJ, and ISTJ)
@danielfisher8985 жыл бұрын
I’m also confused but here’s my best shot: Intjs are organized and planned, specifically in the midst of chaos. Once there is chaos, then they create their own order and use chaos as “a ladder” to reach new heights, their order becoming the only one left. Intps are harder... The only thing I can think of is that conceptual chaos is definitely something intps despise. As one I can attest to the idea that we practically exist to order ideas into rules and laws. Knowledge is a form of order. They don’t appear very orderly, but in fact a well designed system intps typically greatly appreciate. Their Si child usually follows rules unless they can explain exactly why the rule is stupid and shouldn’t exist. They don’t take risks readily, always preferring to wait and make as sure as they can that they’ve thought of everything, from every angle, and checked all of it... blah blah blah

Since my divorce and taking 4 minor kids with me to live in a shack of an apartment, work a crappy job with overtime to make ends meet, I have no room for movement, so I hate chaos because I'm chronically stressed. Hey Chase- I thought I would share something for you to explore,if your curious. I know you have little time with all you do. Anyways, I think everything should connect for the most part if it is correct, I am all into psychology and figuring humans out. Relations and people are very important to me. I really like astrology because if you learn to read it, it shows you a blueprint of yourself and you can find your cognitive functions just through looking there. (But humans are very complicated. ) A thing that is similar but not as complexed is called “Human Design”. I cannot figure out what my type is,(maybe an Infp, Isfj or a Infj or none of them!) but I am loving this and think it could be a good helpful method (if it works and has no holes, I am still trying it out🤪🤓) that can help type people. What we think we are and who we are is hard for us to digest and I know there is a lot of mistypes. It gets complicated, (like I have been learning on here) when people can be stuck in their shadows or because of the nurture they received- their nature has cognitive functions that are pumped up so it is harder to type theirself or be typed correctly. So anyways, do an overview of Human Design (look at your chart, experience yourself and see if it speaks to you and then, if you want,find the holes. It's good to experience things first hand I think.😊)to see how it works and look at your own chart. Figure out your channels. Look things up, I think it is fascinating. You’ll learn about your main energy through your channels, your purpose through what your incarnation cross is (mine is left angle cross of incarnation) and what your strategy is (The strategy may correlate with the temperament- such as mine is waiting to respond) I like figuring things out and connecting things that build on each other. Everything should make sense and some things we just have not figured out and we may never because of our limited minds- so some topics or ideas are bunched in as “Supernatural” or “Wu Wu” -when maybe they are and maybe they are not. I think we can take what is right and leave the rest to build a better, more whole version of what we are all trying to figure out- our universe, ourselves, others, and what impact we have if any and what is the purpose of our origin and life here on earth. What sucks is we are just building blocks, I want to see the ending!! Lol Anyways, check it out, Chase, if you like. ☺️ One helpful link: birthdaypersonality.org/human-design/post/06-gates/ and birthdaypersonality.org/human-design/chapter-02/ for a book on it

Been watching your videos, but the more I watch the more confused I am about my type. People think I am an INTP so do I, but not entirely 100% sure or else I wouldn't be watching these videos. I relate to both movement and control. I relate to finishing first with meals(I think eating is a waste of time lol), so then I think I am a movement type, but then I have 10 counter-arguments to why this is a bad argument. And then I relate to slow driving and learning how to drive very late in life i.e. I am still trying to get my license almost done with the lessons (I am 24). But then I have 10 counter-arguments again as to why this line of reasoning is bad. In some instances, I am fast and other instances I like to keep it organized and orderly and use a process and hate it when people try to rush me. I have for most bits in your videos memories that I can relate to from both movement and order, and I can also destroy the associations by argumentation. I like both progress and order. So I still struggle with figuring out my type. I am fast in things I have experience with like navigating the internet, finding information, photoshop, 3d, programming, and writing(faster than most people). But if I learn something new, I like to go about it slowly and orderly, but also play with the possibilities and gathering data on these possibilities to form the best possible way of doing things, this is me making sure I am not missing important data. Can someone relate to the mental patterns I shared and perhaps tell me what type I could be or what type they are?
@sannan2555 жыл бұрын
I used to think i am INTP, based on some online test, silly me. After finding these videos, I came to the conclusion that I am INTJ. I picked up things from your comment that made me think you could be INTJ too. Hate being rushed, when learning something new. Needing time to collect the information and process it (Ni-Te), and keep going in deeper and deeper to make sure one has gotten all the facts right (Ti-critic), to be sure I have found THE right answer or best way to do something. I first confused the unability to come to the right conclusion quickly as Ti-Ne, thinking I was INTP. But my INTP bf is not obsessed with finding the right/best decision, he sees many possibilities being as good, and he may even flip a coin to make the decision (actually he made an algorithm that simulates 5 coin flips, since one flip was too unreliable, according to him lol). I could never do decisions based on a coin flip haha!
@bluegiant135 жыл бұрын
@@sannan255 Some other people have said I may be INTJ and I do relate to some INTJ things. But I know INTPs that would definitely not make decisions based on coins flips, this sounds irrational to me irrelevant of what type you are. I don't think the decisions are significant if he does that. I would make a decision on what ice cream to eat based on 5 coin flips, no problem. I am also big into self-development. I would consider my external behavior J, but my thoughts INTPish. I just see flawed thinking everywhere, and I don't know what to do with it anymore. I read very isolated examples that are very context-dependent without these examples being principal or cross transferable. I just can't categorize myself based on some arbitrary metric like "making sure to have the right answer". It really depends on the gravity of the situation, it really depends on everything. Or hate to be rushed. Also depends on the context. Sometimes I like to work very very fast, sometimes I like to take things slowly. It really depends. If I am learning something complex and new, I like to go slowly. If I am learning something easy or am doing something I have experience with, I like to go fast. It isn't even that I like to do it or not, my pace automatically changes based on the situation, this is a subconscious thing. And it makes quite a lot of common sense, it could be said that most people naturally work faster if they are good at something. I also can't choose between having the best possible way or having multiple good possibilities. It all sounds stupid to me. I don't think like that at all. Sometimes having multiple good possibilities is better than having the best possible way, and sometimes having the best possible way is better than having the multiple possibilities. It really depends on the context, each problem is new and fresh. Btw, nothing against you, I am just mad because I can't figure this out, and I am ranting a bit.

You take ages to start because INTJ is a finisher type. If you've started something then you'll most likely have the drive to finish it as well, but starting takes a damn lot of energy. Whereas starter types like ENTPs love to start many new projects but won't have the same energy to finish it
