7 days ago I woke up in the morning and could barely open my right eye. The same day later I got low grade fever which persisted the next day, headache, earache...I thought it was an eye, ear infection, even saw a doctor on day 4 who never suggested to get tested, just told me that it's probably a viral infection. On day 6 I noticed the loss of the sense of smell and taste...on day 7 I got tested and it came back positive. I've never heard of anyone else having the eye symptoms to begin with. I always had psoriasis and bouts of severe cornea-scarring blepharitis, but after covid-19 in March/April last year it triggered "long covid" which is my own case meant it triggered my autoimmune disease to go from plain old psoriasis and blepharitis to a more multi-organ psoriatic disease: multiple inflamed organs associated with psoriatic arthritis, found on ultrasound AND after some months of joint swelling and other various signs and symptoms of autoimmunity, I was diagnosed with moderate chronic dry eye and bouts of uveitis and keratitis, starting with an emergency, screaming, excruciating incapacitating inflamed cornea (keratitis) and anterior uveitis at the same time in the same eye. I wanted them to knock me out and just remove if from my head, the pain was like acid and a squeezing vice and being stabbed in the eye all at once. That first bout, six months after the infection when I was already diagnosed with inflamed thyroid, salivary glands and joints, they assumed it was microbial keratouveitis because that's a more common cause of keratitis, but when it started coming back and back and they tried treating it WITHOUT anti-microbials, it was confirmed to be purely autoimmune. It keeps coming back but no screaming and no emergencies since that first bout, and I know what to do as soon as the symptoms start now.

What do u do? Please
@compulsiverambler13522 жыл бұрын
@@tristanwirth6305 Get steroid eye drops and dilating drops (for the pain) prescribed as soon as possible. Options for accessing medicine on an urgent basis depends upon your country. However, this is important, which medicine you get prescribed HAS to be the right kind or it can make it much worse. The only reason I'm able to get prescribed steroid eye drops now without necessarily having to have an eye examination to rule out infectious uveitis, is that I have a recurrent history of it being autoimmune. If the doctor thinks it might be infectious, they must not risk prescribing steroid drops alone, they have to give anti-bacterial and anti-virals alongside it. They did that for me when I went by ambulance at night during the screaming pain emergency because there wasn't a specialist available to rule out infection until the rapid access eye clinic opened in the morning.

Hi Dr. Rupa. There was a study published a few days ago about the potential risk of retinal vascular occlusion after COVID vaccination in the Nature Research journal. This got me thinking about whether there are any new findings related to COVID vaccines and ocular health. I received two doses of the Pfizer vaccine and started seeing floaters a few months later and I am wondering whether there could be a causal link? Although I am a high myope (-8, -8.5), I had not experienced floaters prior to inoculation and I've been reading other anecdotal accounts of people reporting similar issues. I had also experienced light sensitivity before the onset of floaters although this has now largely gone away. And my eyes have become noticeably more fatigued after prolonged computer use when this was not the case before I received the two doses. Are these patterns coincidental, or is there a possibility that the vaccines may have contributed to adverse effects in the eyes?

I had severe pink eye twice over entire pandemic which seemed odd bc I only had it once as a child. 2nd round has been much worse than last year so I suspected Delta Variant. Terrible pain in eyeball, swelling, sticky discharge, severe dry eye, horrific scratchy feeling. scratched cornea in sleep during rapid eye movement on my pillow and eyelid stuck. Next day followed sneezing and congestion. Want to share what helped. Was given Erythromycin Ointment for eyes to be used every 8 hours. Took some benadryl bc eyelid was severely swollen.. Drank LOTS of fluids and immediately took zinc, vitamin D3/ K, trace minerals, collagen. Consumed NO sugar and under 15 carbs. Used red light therapy on face/nose area, steam.showers, humidifier, warm compresses, tear drops. Congestion was gone in 2 days but eye took much longer to fully heal. Try to avoid motrin because seems to lengthen duration of symptoms.

I don't have covid but I did get shingles that affected my upper right eyelid. I thought it was a stye and an allergic reaction. A rash appeared on the right side of my head temple eyebrow and eyelid. I went to the walk-in clinic to be diagnosed with shingles and was treated with antiviral medication. Since getting shingles I have had a bloodshot eye. It is a cluster of blood vessels below my right pupil but hidden by my lower lid. My eye doctor doesn't know what is causing the redness. She also doesn't think it is related to having shingles. I still have the bloodshot eye.....it has been since October 23, 2022. What are your thoughts as to what this could be?? Thank you!

I came down with Covid I immediately have a strange effect on my vision. It (for want of another word) looks very sparkly. All the colors a vivid and brighter than normal and everything looks slightly weird. I know this probably sounds nuts, but I am scared. I also have heightened photophobia, headlights and especially lights that move are actually painful to look at. Have you seen anybody like this? Does it go away after Covid?

Doctor. I'm here in Chicago and I have tested negative for covid three times but I've had it in my eyes and in my feet which they do not acknowledge here in Chicago. I went to an MD who deals with viral infections he said it's in my eyes and my feet. I've been opthamologist they do not acknowledge covid in the eye whatsoever. My vision is blurry. The only thing I just started doing is using an iodine solution which I read about what are suggestions to help me with this

Sometimes the symptoms can be very general and difficult to pinpoint because COVID is a virus and as such can case non-specific eye symptoms. But, it usually resolves. If it doesn't, seek a second opinion.

Didn't test for covid, because no other symptom, but I JUST got over this eye issue, which was a 1st for me. I've been wearing contacts since 2nd grade, so I am pretty picky about eye cleanliness, but had 2-3 days mucus tear duct and redness in right eye. 1-2 days way less severe in left. My eyes are coming out of it naturally after about 2solid days. Maybe related to covid?

Can covid infection or medicines given to treat it initiate or speed up pigment clumps scarring in eyes as well as rise up the required power of glasses? Got covid in Dec 2020. Eye test done this week showed pigment clumps scarring in both eyes and now prescribed to use -6D for left eye and -6.5D for right eye. Previous eye test was done in Oct 2019 which showed no scarring and prescribed glasses of -5D for left and -5.25D for right, age 42

That hasn't been reported in the literature or even anectodally in ophtho groups that i'm a part of, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. I haven't personally seen it, but that's a big jump in prescription for someone in their 40's so it might be.

I just had to have an IV iron infusion yesterday too because I have hypoferremia of inflammation, meaning the inflammation from the infection and then the ongoing inflammation (covid-onset multiorgan psoriatic disease, as I said) gave me hepcedin-induced low iron absorbtion plus functional deficiency, which is possibly is the cause of MOST post-infectious debilitation regardless of which specific autoimmune/inflammatory conditions the infection triggers per person, due to a lack of awareness of how to diagnose iron deficiency when it's caused by inflammation because it actually boosts your ferritin level even sometimes into the excessive range as an acute phase reactant, even when you have no iron stores left in your body. Covid-19 ruined my life, I DID lose my life to covid and got a hellish replacement life, still might lose my career and income permanently cos I still can't work full-time again. This replacement life so many of us have is so much worse than non-existence, I don't know why people are so afraid of losing their life to death and not losing their life to potentially DECADES of torment when you're still young and have so damn long to wait to die. If this iron infusion doesn't make me feel better in the next few weeks as it's predicted to IF there isn't more stuff going on like brain damage, brain inflammation or cerebral thrombosis which people with the same post-covid cognitive symptoms are getting diagnosed with when they get the right scans, then my only reason left to exist will be to stop this happening to more people, which is why I'm compelled to carry on right now, it certainly isn't anything I have to look forward to personally. There is NO joy left, my brain can't focus or make any positive emotions, nothing looks or tastes or sounds nice enough to get me to crack a smile, nothing is that funny, nothing gives me warm-fuzzy emotions, because my brain isn't working properly. I'm much dumber now, struggle cognitively at my IT job because I can't remember anything or do as complex problem solving as I used to, and my personality has lost all its bounce and bubble. The other effects suck but that's the worst, I would rather go blind and be happy like other blind people than see but feel no colour in my heart. Apparently bilateral psoriatic uveitis has a 1 in 10 chance of blinding you eventually, and I don't care as much as I should because nothing gives me joy anyway so what would I be missing? Every day I only carry on for the sake of joining forces with the haemotologists and other clinicians helping me who specialise in this subject to stop the systematic under-diagnosis and lives lost to never ever getting their debilitating inflammatory iron deficiency treated at all or treated fully. Now I have some hope that MAYBE my brain will be able to create positive emotions again when it's no longer severely starved of usable iron (and vitamin D, which also gets lowered by covid-19 in many people, mine went very low afterwards, and the threshold on laboratory reports is long out-of-date like the ferritin threshold used is out-of-date, at least in the UK). It takes up to a month for your tissues and organs to start to recover from all the harm done by over a year of undiagnosed, untreated inflammatory iron deficiency in a way that you feel completely better so I'm going to try to hold on long enough to give it that long.
