@NissanSkyline9012 ай бұрын
Even with how well received it was when it was released, I think the fact that it was towards the tail end of Disney's use of 2D animation it's gotten overshadowed by the nostalgia for the earlier 2D animated movies from the era and the Pixar 3D animated movies that followed it that people are also nostalgic for. It definitely deserves more attention.

3:55 fun fact! This type of animation was the most difficult, expensive,and time consuming animation process and just this scene alone took forever. However, this style of animation was used almost entirely for the film “treasure planet” which flopped heavily and was one of disneys biggest money losses at the time. There’s a lot of reasons as to why it flopped, but it didn’t deserve that tbh, because it’s such an amazing movie

Earlier this year I rewatched it for the first time since I was a kid, and was surprised how much I still enjoyed it and I was surprised how much Disney got away with that they would almost certainly not do now with their children's animated movies. I also had memories rush back the moment young Tantor showed up on screen. Great animation, great story, great music.

Ppl forget that the Disney Renaissance period was called that for a reason. Each of the movies during that period, except maybe Rescuers Down Under, was a goddamn marvel of what could be down with animation at that time. Hell, I may just be misremembering Rescuers even. These movies are straight up beautiful, leave you wondering how the hell is this hand drawn, and hold up even today, some 30 years later.

There has to be a scientific study on how certain directors frame shots so that kids don't notice the incredibly disturbing things happening on screen until they're adults. Like the knife hits the ground and is in the foreground of the scene, naturally drawing your attention to it. Tarzan lands after that but he's in the background. He stays crumpled up for a second as the lightning flashes, which reveals Clayton's body. But, you're still watching Tarzan because he hasn't really moved and you want to make sure he's okay. Only after the lightning fades, does Tarzan move and lift his head, showing that he's fine. If you aren't actively looking at the background, it is really easy to miss. I think adults know how to take in more info at once so when we revisit stuff like this it's honestly startling to realize that yes that really has been there all along. (Also....I wouldn't be surprised if the hanging corpse was removed for when it aired on Disney Channel or Toon Disney.)
