This show really taught me something about life: You shouldn't just sit around moping about your problems. Instead you need to go out there, grab life by the horns, and GET A JOB!

This is one of the rare kinds of jokes that the straight man's only job is to stutter and stand around confused. Brilliantly done sir!

I think 90% of the comedy in Kaguya is absurdity vs realism. A roundabout over the top solution rather than just do something much simpler. It catches you off guard a lot because sometimes the place where you're expecting realism instead leans to absurdity
@narrowstone53635 жыл бұрын
Then where you expect absurdity it subdues itself to be more realistic

Something that reinforces that dynamic but which I don't see people talk about is the EDITING. Oh my god the fucking editing. It gets shitposty at times. For instance [SPOILERS] when Kaguya meets Shirogane's dad, except he doesn't tell her who he is, and just keeps flustering her with laser-guided questions, there's a segment where her embarrassment reaches a boiling point. How do the editors convey that? By taking a static less-than-10-frames loop of Kaguya standing up talking, leaning it sideways over an absurd background, and shittily upscaling it in and out. Leaving JPG artifacts intentionally in a fucking finished, shipped anime.

OMG I'M SO GLAD YOU MADE THIS VIDEO ON KAGUYA-SAMA, LOVE THIS! I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO MORE ON THIS SHOW! (**whispers** also haikyuu) Also it's really remarkable how both the manga and the anime capitalizes on each of their strengths in different ways, but both just as effectively.

Thanks for this video. I'm so used to break down the writting in the usual dramatic genres that i get confused as to how comedic narratives work. You encouraged me to look into it a bit further and get to a better conclussion

Some people don't like to see the cogs in the machine. It takes away the magic for them. I've never quite understood this, I think the opposite for me has always been true. Anyways, I think regardless of what people prefer, no one can deny that you're great at showing us the cogs. I really love your stuff

Since you brought it up, i really like the Kashiwagi's boyfriend joke because we don't realise we are calling him that all the time and becausr he and Kashiwagi are recuring characters we see a lot, then we only just realise we don't know his name until the finale arc of season 3 when Ishigami mentions it

I can't imagine a person who doesn't think Kaguya-sama isn't funny. I suppose is japanese straight man comedy isn't your thing then it's possible ... but you wouldn't be into anime if straight man comedy didn't tickle you since it's probably the most used form of comedy in the medium. Great video (it actually came out on my birthday, though I didn't watch it then haha!), I love analytical videos like this and this is why I love your channel. I don't think anything is above analysis IMO.

I have an example: In the last story of S2 E3, the main psychological fight between Shirogane and Miko has a main theme of "Size=Perception of power". It starts with Miko's description, adding her height of 147cm. When Shirogane enters, there is a clear difference in height emphasised by the arrow pointing down at her. After we understand both of their first-year scores(Miko has always been first, Shirogane only in the last term), Shirogane tries to change the subject to why she shouldn't focus wholly on her scores, a similar arrow pushes him down to below her height. Meanwhile, Chika questions him trying to compare himself, and talk down, to a first-year. Ishigami makes a point for Shirogane, as the camera moves down from his eyes. Glasses girl adds a counterpoint as it moves down from her forehead instead, signifying how Ishigami is in more power in this argument. In their last ditch effort to win, Ishigami and Shirogane talk down on them about how they wouldn't survive being president, as they pose menacingly on a cliff, mimicking shounen antagonists. In the background of the image, Chika acknowledges that fact, bigger than the cliff they are standing on. From then on, the battle changes to Chika being asked by Miko to be vice president, and the height metaphors stop

My favourite punchline in the manga is "Shirogane Loses. Reason: Because this was the aquarium" I really hope that arc gets adapted at some point.

comedy and horror exists on an individual basis.based on life experience and maturity. that is all there is and ever will be to it. on a separate note, don't be _that_ person who says "it's just a joke" as some type of defense to something you've said. it never works...
