I think Mainoo could really help us hold the ball higher up the pitch and also break lines with his dribbling and ability to find a gap. We need someone next to Ugarte with a broader range of reliable passing, as we don't keep the ball well enough. Dare I say a De Jong type 😅

Yeah, it's actually ironic that De Jong is probably the ideal midfield partner for Ugarte. He can initiate our build up play, carry ball and he also has the legs to press the ball high up the pitch.

Kobbie doesn't have the expansive passing or maturity of any of those players yet. Which causes us problems sometimes. Kobbie is brilliant though, he just shouldn't be so relied on, he should be in and out of the team, learning his trade and developing

Id recommend to you a book called Inverting The Pyramid, I think you might find it interesting. Certainly the numbered way of describing positions is outmoded, but its quick and more refers to where you would draw them on a tactics board than what they actually do on the profile required. I think the italian names, like regista, trequartista, etc, mixed with the english terms is probably the best for accuracy for sure.

I think people genuinely forget how incredibly young he is. It's completely normal for him to be fairly inconsistent and have more of his game to develop at this age - especially as a deeper player. He'll develop his match intelligence, defensive positioning and otb movement as he grows.

Nice analysis! Long time fan of the channel. Really like how you've set up the team here to attack oppositions, there are a couple changes I might make on that right side to keep the balance defensively. I also think Hojlund is clearly the weakest link in that system currently, I think he has the potential to be a top Finisher/Poacher if someone can improve his movement and spacial IQ, currently spends to much time backing into defenders and unnecessarily wrestling, only to end up on the floor.

i dont play vg but you know these are italian positional terms. from baggio to pirlo,maldini,baresi,totti, i was forza azzurri. golden era 90-2000s every major europe south america power won or finaled. brazil,argentina,uruguay, dutch,germany,france,italy,porrtugal ending with spain's rise2006-12. also my youth so nostalgic but before 433 every nation had real identity style/formation . some fascinating matchups. does game use terms for style reasons or catchy? very logical its splitting hairs because today bruno was bit of regista its very interchangeable in 343/3421 with 2 ball winning 8s or the deeper of 2 attacking playmakers . just so nice to have coach so creative and how players by interchange understand game better at all levels. going to be so hard to gameplan against : )

I think people forget he played in pivot in the summer I think he can play the pivot but he bulked after the Euros and kind of is affecting his mobility this season. I would play Mainoo in the 10 for the rest of the season and then in the offseason have him get leaner and drop him back to the pivot. But if we play him in 10 him and Bruno need to interchange in and oop

I would rather have mainoo in the more advanced role. As I put in a previous comment, if you give him a free role in a 3 5 2 as the advanced point of that midfield 3, you get someone who can not only dribble past players but hold play up and bring in runners from deep. We play our best football during quick transitions and it's that last killer pass we see lacking, show in our poor XG. We need another ugarte in my opinion and would love to have seen onana come in or a player of his type. Defensively we look better, but let's be honest we are toothless, it's a huge issue and for me we get the best out of mainoo in a more advanced role rotating during play with Fernandes. I'd also like to see more risk taking when we do have the ball and instead always have a 3 2 at the back, have Bruno run from deep to join the attack. Oh and I want onana out the team, reason we bought him is to be good with his feet yet with this system that isn't important, so I'd like an actual shot stopper and consistent keeper.

The best attribute of Mainoo is his press resistant. The worst thing about Mainoo is press resistant is his only good attribute. He still need to learn a lot. Let bench him Don't push him too soon. Don't believe me. Watch Lisandro Martinez goal against Liverpool look what was Mainoo doing. Look how Bruno and Licha change plan simultaneously due to Mainoo frustration.

Hojlund is poor. He lacks positional awareness and he positions his body poorly to receive a pass and either takes too many touches as a result therefore killing any quick attack we might have or the ball just bounces off him. Zirkzee for me is better if we playing a low block and hojlund being used to exploit space on the premise we might have to forgo possession. We need a new striker in summer tho because hojlund and zirkzee aren’t and never will be good enough for this system. Stylistically hojlund plays different football to the football amorim wants to play and i think he will either be sold in summer to raise funds for a new forward or understudy to an amorim first choice forward. But i would prefer the former. I don’t rate hojlund at all
