It’s not TX, it’s everywhere. Tolls were supposed to be temporary “for construction”. Once they’re complete, the government would now say: *Now that we completed the bridge, we decided to keep tolls for maintenance.* But that’s complete bullshit, the money goes to their pockets. Not for construction. The highway I take had too many potholes left unresolved since the late 2000s.

The tolls are a scam. In Florida my main toll road I take was supposed to be a regular road after it’s fees paid for the road construction. We’re still paying years after and it’s still a scam. You buy your main tag and the second it goes three dollars minimum balance both Sunpass and Epass and E-PASS send you bills.

Tolls shouldn't be legal, all states have highway funds and those funds are to build and maintain highways. Tolls came as a result of states wasting and mismanaging those highway funds. Tolls became a way to double tax citizens for the same reason. Not only that, tolls seem to never go away and why is that, because they create a continual revenue stream for the state and third party companies running them. Those companies make sure to contribute to the campaign funds of the very politicians that keep them in business long past when the roads and bridges have been paid off. Lastly, tolls have become a permanent control method to keep the poor out and to restrict movement of citizens. Tolls are used to force people into using other public services to keep those agencies running. Tolls are used to invade the privacy of citizens with cameras. The cameras don't just take your license plate information, they take pictures of the driver and passenger so they can keep track of you in the name of "safety". Those third party toll companies aggregate your photo with the license plate information and mailing addresses linked to the license plate and sell it to other parties for more revenue.

Lee County in Florida makes it impossible for visitors to pay tolls because there are no attendants at the toll stations. You have to go through the toll without paying. I was sent a letter from the county saying I skipped paying tolls and added late fees to my bill. I always pay tolls when I can, but you cannot in Lee County unless you have a transponder, which is silly if you do not live there.
