How Drivers Are Ending Up on One of America’s Most Dangerous Streets

Navigational apps are creating a wild ride for drivers in Los Angeles that seem to come out of nowhere and are causing disastrous results. Apps like Waze are directing motorists onto Baxter Street, which is one of the steepest roads in America. The route is meant to help people avoid traffic, but with a 32 percent grade incline, drivers are losing control of their cars, landing upside down, and crashing onto front lawns and curbs. Truck and limo drivers are getting wedged on the street's crest. #InsideEdition

@GuinnessandPizza not quite. If you don't normally drive that rode, which apparently used to be an old goat trail according to some, you don't know how to handle it. Yes the city either needs to put a sign warning of the incline OR mark it as local traffic only (no through traffic). Waze should also add a notice with maybe difficult or steep incline along route, and possibly offer a similar eta route just in case.

pinkfreud62 easier said than done. A car going downhill has more speed than one going uphill. The best way to avoid it is to shift your gear into 3, and then decrease it as it creates air into the vehicle to slow it down

I feel like a stop light at the top would help with the intersection, as for the steepness, the only thing they could do is major construction to try to lessen the incline, or add tons of warning signs. They should also probably add in some walls to protect residents.
