if you want to REALLY annoy someone, you need to play badly, like as if you were just starting to play drums, cause you know, no matter how loud drums are, if you play them well, it's just loud music, people can get used to it, but if it's bad, that's a whole different story... or you can just nonstop blast beat, no fills, no nothing, just blast the fuck out of the drums.

As a guitar player I've done this. If I'm told to "deal with it" that sentiment goes both ways. Your home theater/sound bar may be able to crank Justin Bieber at a fair volume, but my 4x12 cabinet was made to play concerts in arenas. Try me. You will lose. I'm the guy who turns it to 11 leans the guitar on the cab to create a feedback loop and goes to work. Or I'll practice bleed by Meshuggah all. Day. Long.

Remind's me of a situarion with my band drummer. She live in a tiny flat, and have an electronic drum kit - its not so loud as a real one for sure, but her neighbours stil complain about "Loud noises you making downstairs". So our band rent her a real drum kit, then we just take our amps and guitars to make some homeshow event. After comparison with real loudnes, her neighbours have never complaind about electronic kit ever again)))
@alexntemperley
@alexntemperley 3 жыл бұрын
Fighting with neighbours is horrible. You get louder, they'll get louder and at the end of the day everyone loses. Would it be possible to create some more sound panels and affix them to the ceiling? If you do go the route of making more of your own noise... make sure you practice odd time. They won't be able to follow the patterns as easily and may add to the annoyance.
@Ninjametal
@Ninjametal 3 жыл бұрын
Having a place to play drums as loud as one wants isn't a loss by any means. I'd give the neighbors a note reading: "Thank you for setting precedent for tenants to be as loud as they wish. It will really help my drumming improve!"

@@Ninjametal Thanks, cpt. Obvious... I never knew. But Lemmy is still alive, he lives through his songs and our memories. One of the most humble human beings I've ever met. Still, if he was there, it would be loud. Also about claiming that you can be louder than alive Lemmy - Have you ever seen them live? I doubt it, cause 7 times I saw Motorhead, 7 times I came out of the show and couldn't hear for at least 2 days.
@Ninjametal
@Ninjametal 3 жыл бұрын
@@puffin20 Sometimes I'm not obvious enough... I love Lemmy and his Rickenbacker Marshall tube amp tone, it's legendary as a rig. Kudos to you for seeing Motorhead, that's f'n cool. I didn't claim I could be louder than Motorhead or their PA per specific venue you saw the band at. To clarify, my guitar rig gets louder than his bass rig. Apparent loudness is dependant on frequencies, and the amp and speaker power to project them. Lemmy's bass frequencies out of even 4 cranked marshall stacks can't compete with my rig consisting of: Marshall DSL40, Marshall JCM900, (2 x 12, 50 watt) 68 Fender Bandmaster, (4 x 10, conservative 85 watts) Acoustic 260, (300 watts 2 x 12) and a digital modeling rig that is amped by 2 x krk vxt8 studio monotors that gets loud enough by itself. Those big amps of mine can run all at once, with my digital rig...it would adequately play a stadium. A bass rig less than 5000 watts couldn't match the perceived loudness of my guitar, because guitar gets loud easier. I swear on my hearing damage this is true. Thanks for your convo

The guy I shared a wall with in the barracks was blasting music late on a weekday. I politely asked him to turn it down and he told me to “get headphones or get over it”. The next day I put my monitors against the wall and played 1812 Overture on max to wake him up. He was livid

Inconsiderate neighbors are the worst. You have to commit to making loud nonstop noise every second of the day. I got tired of asking them to turn their tv down, so I have a 10 hr metal playlist that I play constantly on a loop and I’ve placed my speakers and sub directly where their living room wall is. I blast that sht ALL DAY AND NIGHT. I can sleep right through my loud music, and it drowns them out. I dont even notice it anymore, but I know they do. 😇

When I lived in NYC and the upstairs neighbors removed their carpets (not legal) I could hear every footstep and they wore high heels a lot. So in addition to using that as permission to play my drums as loud as I wanted, I also set up a golf ball on a fishing line that went through an eye bolt on the ceiling so that whenever I heard them walking around in heels all I had to do was pull on the line and the golf ball smacked against the ceiling. They never ended up putting the carpet back but they tried to step lightly - which was still plenty audible. But at least they knew it was now a two way street as far as respecting your neighbors.

That moment was hella awesome when you took the drum up. Sometimes I feel like, just putting my guitar amp on blast and playing the heaviest and darkest riffs that I can come up with when my neighbours are being noisy (which is pretty much on a daily basis). But then I also realise that my actions would also affect the innocent neighbours around me. If my living situation was the same as yours though.. bruv. I would've definitely do the same thing (of course I would talk to em first. but if they would prefer to be degenerate about it... oh boy, they would get a unwanted free live show so fast )

I thought this was going to be an ironic vid about neighbors being too loud while you’re trying to drum

I love you for this. Brandon Scott, hero of the people. Play for an hour as soon as you wake up every single morning. Make it as early as possible. 5AM if you can. Especially on the weekends. Collage kids hate early mornings. 😇

I doubt he would. That would give them the upper hand and they'd call the police for public disturbance. Don't know how it is in US but in Greece there are quite hours where noise and public disturbance isn't allowed. You can get a huge fine for doing so.

@@puffin20 in the UK as long as its before 11pm or after 7AM you can be as loud as you like.. well almost. Anything below rock concert levels pretty much!

Idea: Get some triggers, set them up on your ceiling so that everytime they drop something you have a noise or sound that emits via 10,000 watt Amp hooked up to speakers that are fastened to your ceiling.............you're welcome

Lmao "Deal with it" , I would bring my kit which is rediculously loud and then they'd have to "deal with it" !!! Nothing goes through walls like a 24" bass drum or 18" floor !! Lmao

Yeah exactly , that's how drummers deal with their noisy neighbours (they don't drummers power)

in china they specifically sell some type of speaker or something similar that you can stick on the ceiling and program it to go off at random time and it pretty much doesn't make any noise on your side but is INCREDIBLY loud for them... i forgot the name, but that could be an amazing way to DEAL WITH IT

Yep... I've been having a place all for myself for a few months, and I had to re-frame NOT to do certain things like laundry at 3 am. I'm sleeping on the couch - it's a very comfy bed-couch lol - in my living room. I used to not be able to stand the sound of a watch (kid you not) in college, when I was practicing 6 hours a minute ( y e s ) or at least it felt like it. It reminded me of a metronome. Now... I swear I can sleep and do laundry at the same damn time. It's what a couple years sleeping in very odd places with very odd people will do to you I guess. Also : to minimize vibration, make a drum riser with half tennis balls (not joke) and some basic plywood. Half a tennis ball can support the weight of an average human adult. Swear to God. It cost like 30 bucks and you have a riser. I will definitely makes a big difference :)
