I’m from Athens but live in the UK. Love my home city however I’ve noticed on many videos how insane the graffiti tagging has become, I really think it’s time this is sorted. The new mayor of Athens has said he will resolve this but I’d like to hear what other people who are visiting the city think about this? Some like it as think it’s colourful, I personally believe it’s visual pollution. What do you think?
@Peregrination5 жыл бұрын
You are correct, it certainly makes the city colorful, but a lot of it is a little senseless tagging, right? However, some of the artwork is great!

If visiting in summer, it might be a good idea to get to the acropolis really early or very late to avoid the heat and the cruise ship tours. Visit the Acropolis Museum during the hottest part of the day.

The land of Greece is one infused with ancient mythology and if you like archeology, history, art, and philosophy then a trip to this fascinating country is not to be missed. Greece is made up of a series of idyllic islands that are surrounded by jet blue seas and covered in dainty white buildings, and you will also find crumbling ruins, engaging museums, and pretty coastal towns aplenty.

Even taxis are MUCH MUCH cheaper than most European and American cities. And even in Plaka and Monastiraki, food is not too expensive either, unless you pick a luxurious place or a posh restaurant. There are varieties of prices and street food is always cheap.

Don't buy your tickets at the Acropolis ticket booth. The lines are very very long. Go to one of the other sites as they all sell tickets. It is $30 for a ticket that is good for all the sites and it is good for a week. We have never taken the subway we always just walk as athens is easy to get around. Food is good everywhere. The Potatoes are grown on Naxos and they taste so much better than any you have ever had. For chocolate get a bottle of Milko chocolate milk. The best I have ever had. We stay in the area due south of the acropolis a little further away than Diva Pizza. (they have a great combo meal that's big and great Caesar salad with it) We have also stayed further to the south east near lambrakis hill which is more of the locals area so food is cheaper and better there. The hill was a prison for minors a few decades back and there is a restaurant called TRIKYKLO that is good as is the one directly across from it.

What is the name of the apartment or hotel you stayed at in Athens?
@maobfh2 жыл бұрын
I am late, sorry. And you might be wise to this by now. But…a tip i have heard many times is that a Greek Salad is a tourist thing. No one in Greece orders a Greek Salad, they simply order a salad. I don’t know what an American Salad would be, but there is one …. or ten. The Greek know what a Greek salad is because so many Americans will insist on one and refuse that restaurant’s specialty salad. Crazy but….there you go. So if you HAVE TO HAVE a GREEK salad in Greece where every salad is Greek, you are going to pay double for it.

I never understand why people don't use Airbnb to there advantage. People will ask me why did I rent a place for month if I am in a spot for 12 days. Then I say well a monthly 350 dollars yet you just paid 700 dollars for less time.

Probably a really stupid question but I'm trying to get over there October of next year for the first time. Is it easier to start learning the language now? Or atleast some of the basic? Is there an English translate on all things or would it be easier to have our phones on translate? It's such a beautiful place and I can't wait.
@alx_gr14 жыл бұрын
As an Athenian I guess I can give you some advice. Everyone in Greece speaks English and every monument/museum/public transport has signs in English. The only reason you might need to learn Greek for is reading menus in some local, non tourist packed, restaurants or supermarkets!
