was thinking about the lead metagame and i believe ditto is the best choice but it sucks against other dittos the thing is, you want to make other dittos copy you metapod since it's the worst mon to have only 5 tackle pp so metapod could also work as a counter lead option but making ditto the first gives him more option to transform multiple times in a game or maybe weedle as the lead, and hard switching into metapod if the lead ditto but if they predict that, they can just switch their own kakuna agaisnt the metapod which sucks because you don't want to risk the poison on anything, so you switch one of the poison types in and lose more damage than him i really want to make some calcs too, to know which mons win in each 1v1 scenario because since it's really limited, knowing this is super possible and a big advantage another cool thing is the crit rate of everything magikarp as the fastest mon there has a 15% to crit, not bad at all, a little more than 1 in 7 weedle has the second best crit rate, with something close to 10% caterpie is next with 8% kakuna is close to 7% and metapod is a little less than 6%, so less than 1 in 16 so against the harden metapod, you really want your magikarp alive i think this is a really cool as a metagame because it's much different than anything like competitive pokémon there's no variation in teambuilding except for the lead, therefore it's much more about building the optimal game plan i would imagine if it's completely optimized, it's pretty much luck the game and whoever gets more crits, less tackle misses, more poison sting poisons and speed ties wins but the period of development would be really cool

It has a niche in using harden and achieving nothing. Poison sting Kakuna can’t attempt to wall. …I vote we ban Poison Sting. It’s extremely overcentralizing. Kakuna and Weedle have no switch ins due to the warping power of this 15 Bp move. Some people may be concerned that removing one of the two attacking moves in the tier may limit team building. This is false, as weedle is now banned, and as such, does not need to be considered in team building. Additionally, kakuna still has many viable sets such as Harden Kakuna - Harden I hope you will join me in banning this overpowered move. Next week, we can look at Tackle, another major source of unwanted variance.

@@sumthinorother9615 Harden Kakuna might actually be very strong, even without Poison Sting. With only 1 move, it would have less overall PP, meaning it would get access to Struggle much faster to do damage. But it would also have its defense maxed out, in a tier where all damaging moves are physical. It doesn't even need String Shot either, this move would be a major hindrance for Kakuna because the slight speed advantage wouldn't be worth the extra PP. Banning Weedle could have catastrophic consequences, since it has the highest base attack in the tier. It's probably the best option against Kakuna and Metapod, considering critical hits from Struggle. I'm afraid that, with Poison Sting banned, Metapod and Kakuna would wall everything else with little to no opposition, draining as many Tackle PP from the enemy team as possible. And while I would agree that a Poison Sting ban should be considered, it is in fact the one thing stopping Metapod from becoming an absolute monstrosity in this tier. Unlike Kakuna, it would still have a damaging move, meaning that *it doesn't even need to wait for Struggle to do damage* while it can take hits like no one else, since it has the absolute best defensive stats in the whole tier. That could often leave Magikarp, with its high critical hit chance, as our only hope in the very likely scenario of facing a +6 Metapod or Kakuna. Well, apart from Ditto, who can copy a +6 Kakuna and speedrun through its PP, while also putting up a fight with its slightly higher base HP.

It wouldn't change that much in most generations Pokémon pool-wise. Even in the later generations until Dexit, older Pokémon are still permitted. The weakest Generation 1 Pokémon remain the weakest for an extended period, as few other generations introduce TM limited Pokémon. In USUM, Ditto would leave since it's actually strong even in higher tiers. And the only additions I could envision are Wurmple, Silcoon, Cascoon, Kricketot, Scatterbug, and Spewpa. Combee could also enter but it would be overpowered with STAB Gust hitting hard and consistently against 90% of the tier. All of these new additions play roles similar to existing mons, with the ones capable of inflicting poison being the most potent. However, if we were to pursue the route of the six weakest Pokémon, it would take most Poison types away, leading to a different meta. Interestingly, Magikarp would reign supreme, access to Z-Celebrate and its ability to hit hard with STAB Hydro Pump, Bounce, and Flail would be central. The primary focus would be on who can eliminate Magikarp first. If Magikarp isn't banned, this would also introduce strategies involving Caterpie/Metapod with Electro Web, which could force switches against Magikarp. Metapod, with Special Defense investment and eviolite might serve as a solid Magikarp check. Kricketot's gimmicks with Endeavor. Wurmple/Silcoon as improved versions of Caterpie/Metapod with the added capability to poison. A banned magikarp would introduce Scatterbug with compound eyes poison powder making the game actually less stagnant balancing around leftovers. Finally, our 6th slot is the best thing USUM could give to us: Cosmog, which is even worst than Magikarp in Gen 1, but you could just slap a rocky helmet and see what happens

I actually did see the 7U video from Big Yellow before, and I did a bit of research for a hypothetical 8U, 9U and 10U. And my conclusion for 10U was the exact same as your second itineration of 9U. I must say, I really loved that you too tried to explore the circles of hell for a hypothetical tier where Magikarp is the fastest tackle on this side of the Atlantic and Metapod is the meta pod. It might be a good idea to set the max level for 9U, should the format even deserve to exist, to 15, because damage scales better at lower levels. Would make the game take less time and be slightly punchier. Ex. 252 Atk Magikarp Tackle vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Metapod: 15-18 (4.9 - 5.9%) Lvl 15 252 Atk Magikarp Tackle vs. Lvl 15 252 HP / 252 Def Metapod: 4-5 (7.4 - 9.2%) This would also significantly nerf poison, arguably the strongest method of damage in the tier currently, both by dealing slightly less total damage per turn, and having less turns for poison to deal damage. It would also buff ditto significantly because its PP issues while transformed are somewhat lessened. Harden also gets a bit of a boost, generally only needing to reach +2 against Magikarp or +3 against Caterpie/Metapod to only take 2 damage a hit, a better scaling than at 100.

Hilariously, there is actually a real effort to make an 8U tier. Vulpix is currently the best lead. Nidorina and Nidorino, are in the Tier, and make up the Bulk mons of the tier. Much the same here. There are no normal resists. Although, Geodude is being looked at. No one is sure if it will drop. XD

I used to think Pidgey should be allowed in the tier, but then I realized STAB Double-Edge and Sky Attack are very, very powerful... It's most definitely broken, even considering the counterplay with Ditto now I'm wondering if Zubat would be fine with a Confusion ban. Mega Drain would be the only special attack in the tier though which gives it an immense advantage

all these tiers only use level 100 pokemon. This got me thinking... what if we allowed higher tier pokemon at lower levels. how low a level of higher tier pokemon would still dominate? A level 30 snorlax would probably still dominate despite the 70 level difference due to high HP + amnesia, but what about a level 30 staryu? A level 20 geodude? A level 15 Mew? Could we go even lower? What's the lowest level cap we could have to where every other pokemon is still stronger than Metapods. Are level 20 metapods still beaten by a level 5 charmander? I feel like we can go even lower than 9U with level balance shenanigans.

Struggle Ditto has the potential to be very good, when sent against a +6 Metapod or Kakuna (preferably the latter). It can reach Struggle much faster than anyone else in the tier; has slightly more base HP than Kakuna, meaning that it could win in a hypothetical Struggle 1v1 at full HP and it would also get access to the best move in the whole tier: Poison Sting. Though I think it would still have it rough in a Struggle 1v1 against Metapod, since Metapod has higher base HP than Ditto. Transforming into Weedle could be good too, because Weedle has the highest base attack and Poison Sting.

In balanced hackmons i once stalled an Arceus using a metapod named penis with harden. the arceus was defensive with whirlpool and toxic, while i countered toxic with shed skin and stalled with harden. tactical metapod using harden happened. an arceus got walled by a metapod named penis using harden

Fun fact: We see Magcarjoe frozen in the lowest level of hell, so we know his ability ISN'T Magma Armor. Question is whether it's Flame Body or Weak Armor.

Can you do some analysis of the 9/10u metapod containing tier? Is metapod actually decent and has utility, or would you replace it with a second Magikarp if you could. I'm happy to know how we got here, but where is here?

Metapod is the second worst Pokémon in the tier, second to only caterpie. You absolutely would not willingly include either of them. Magikarp only really crit fishes with tackle. 15 percent chance to deal double damage is fine, (triple of Metapod tackle, but half as common as poison sting poison) but I couldn’t describe anything in this tier as having “utility” Metapod deals base 1% more damage to Kakuna than magikarp, (so, technically better with abhorrent luck,) can become hard, and slow things maybe. Unfortunately, magikarp has equal defense to metapod before harden, and lacks it’s crippling poison weakness. It’s faster than metapod unless string shot is used twice, and, as mentioned, it lands around three times as many critical hits. It stacks up better against the rest of the tier, (which, without species clause, is 5 Kakunas. Probably 6.) Except ditto. Metapod doesn’t get any set up opportunities except against caterpie, so it largely winds up worse than magikarp. Premier mon, as implied, is Kakuna. Weedle and ditto both exist only to try in vain to be Kakuna. Magikarp is almost okay because it deals chip damage to Kakuna. Poison Sting, the only STAB move in the tier, has a thirty percent chance to inflict poison, more than doubling the damage output per turn. Kakuna, as a poison type, is immune to this effect. The pure bug types are weak to poison moves, ditto can be poisoned if it tries to switch in, magikarp can be poisoned whenever. Nothing can stop an epic Kakuna sweep. Also worth noting that Weedle does more damage than Kakuna. It still uses a 15 base power move, but it’s great, as far as 10u Pokémon go. The actual meta would revolve around spreading poison when possible, avoiding poison, if possible, and generally pressing the attack button while occasionally switching. Kakuna in particular would want to pivot into any non-poison Type, poison them, and switch into something less useful. The main play against that is to double switch into ditto, scaring out a Kakuna who doesn’t want to give the opponent another Kakuna. In the Kakuna mirror, if you choose to play it, you may choose to switch to a magikarp, Weedle, or ditto to preserve your kakuna. If somebody loses their Kakuna, the other is at five or so percent, and can’t last a more than a turn against faster Pokémon. Big war of attrition ensues. Sometimes a scramble happens , but the highest possible damage a single attack can do is 28% (Weedle high roll crit poison sting on caterpie.) In conclusion, don’t. Ever.
