Hey Jrose, I just wanted to give a shout out to your narration. I often get migraines which make it hard to look at screens, so I’ll put on one of your videos to listen to while my meds kick in. I really appreciate how clear you are with what’s happening- it’s easy enough for me to follow along with just the audio, but your excitement and the suspenseful moments still carry over. I know a lot of work goes into editing the footage (and I do go back to watch it too), but I think it’s also not an easy task to create engaging audio with good cadence and style. Many thanks for all your hard work! From Canada

I'd really love to see a solo run for Raichu. Not because I think it'll be good, far from it. In fact I think it might be the only fully evolved Pokèmon that will rank lower than its pre-evolution. Pikachu's problem was that it couldn't do anything to Brock because it can't actually attack Brock until it gets to level 16 and it learns Quick Attack. Raichu on the other hand doesn't learn Quick Attack and will absolutely have to use Struggle to damage Brock.

I think at the end of this video it really answers this question. Jrose says he considers all possible outcomes when finally deciding on the rank, not just how the actual run went. I'm calculating that dugtrio's slash would be better on average than eq after 3 withdraws. Slash has 70 base power and does x2 damage with crit. it always ignores def boosts, so it always does 140 base power. I'm not sure if it gets the intended single 12.5% badge boost because of the crit, but I know it does not get any additional badge boosts. If this is true, then slash's base power is instead 157, after rounding down. Eq has 100 basepower and has a 1.5x STAB effect. I think the badge boost glitch is an additive effect, so that after 3 amnesias, there is a 12/8 multiplicative factor instead of 9/8. If that is correct, then eq has 225 base power with no crit. Gen 1 dugtrio has a 120/512, or 23.4% chance to crit, which does x2 damage but reduces the badge boost multiplier down to 9/8 for an effective 337 base power after rounding down. After accounting for crit chance, the expected value of eq's base power is 251.25. Each withdraw boosts slowbro's defense by 50%, so after one withdraw the non-crit effective base power is down to 150, which is worse than slash's base power. The 337 base power crit eq ignores the defense buffs. In this scenario, the expected value of eq's base power is 193.8. We can repeat this for each defense buff to see when eq's expected value drops lower than slash's expected value of 157. 2 withdraws puts eq's expected base power at 164.7, and 3 withdraws puts eq's expected base power at 147.9. So after 3 withdraws, dugtrio is better off using slash instead of eq.
@porygonalbreasts2 жыл бұрын
The badge boosts are applied directly to the stat, not by stat stages like growl or agility's effects. Raising your stats in this way wouldn't be affected by a crit because it's raised by the badge boosts pointwise and not by a multiplier when calculation is done

@@rodrigobostelmann2309 Having preferences is perfectly fine. I'm sure you were aware, but I'll specify for others that I'm only talking about people who are actively being toxic in the comments. And thanks for the recommendations, I'll check those people out later. It feels like a lot of the big Pokémon KZbin channels aren't actually playing the games that much these days and are more concerned with reporting news, leaks, and rumors. And you know, I'm not saying they aren't allowed to, but I do kinda prefer to watch actual gameplay when I got some free time.
@FernandoRafaelNogueiraReis2 жыл бұрын
Pikasprey isn't a challenge player per se, he's more into variety but has a lot of "alternate reality pokémon" playlists as he likes to call the romhacks. He has two channels and in the Yellow one he has "lock" challenges where he likes to think how to give the worst possible save to someone else to play. Blue channel is his VOD, since he streams at Twitch. If you're still reading, I'd also recommend the Imported Cheese channel. He's more into glitch hunting but he does challenges in Pokémon Showdown, using teams from Patreon and his chat when he streams. He also makes tierlists. Lastly, I vouch for Paraspectre. He plays challenges in the TCG and comments about the main line games in a very "movie review" way, while putting his own memories (a bit like Scott), which is neat. I actually heard about this one from MahDryBeard and I only knew about this one from JRose11 so they're a very cool, wholesome community! Here are some honourable mentions: ChaoticMeatball makes Catch'em all Challenges, PaPaSea makes Nintended runs. They sometimes collab with other players with small channels that's worth checking out. CHAZZY is into Elite 4 Monotype runs, very competitive insight.

To the people having trouble with other people doing Single pokemon challenges, there's something to consider, each person has different strats and approaches to their challenges. Some do it casually, some have a more analytical eye, and some just find a happy medium. It's good to have these different perspectives.

I don't think saying one challenger is better than the other has to be a toxic thing. It's just an opinion based on your own criteria for what constitutes a legitimate challenge. It's only a problem if you start insulting people or telling them they shouldn't be doing things the way that's the most fun for them.

"Aurora Beam is still doing too much damage! I bought, like, five calciums!" One calcium raises your Special stat exp by 2560. Five would raise by 12800. The way stat exp is calculated, the square root of the exp (which would be 113 and some change) is then divided by 4 to give the stat buff (28), but you're only level 60, so you only get 60% *of* that 28. You raised your Special by seventeen. Aurora beam is still going to hit like a truck.

Here's something that might help you: Lorelei's Dewgong will use Rest on its second turn 80% of the time. How does that help you? Well, if you have Dig or Fly, that means you can dodge its first attack, then damage it so when it rests, it will fall asleep, that gives you 3 extra turns to knock it out or set up your badge boosts. This is like, the one advantage Dig has over Earthquake, the fact you can get some free turns on the Lorelei battle, it's not guaranteed, but hey she's the first you have to fight, so it's easy to reset if you need to rely on it.

@DKQuagmire2 жыл бұрын
The problem with Dig though, its a 2-turn attack. an attack that takes 2 turns to even do anything, is really slow in a speedrun setting, and its just faster in most cases to just keep hitting scratch. Dig is amazing in a casual playthrough, where your not worrying about speeding through the game as fast as possible.
@elliotmyers90712 жыл бұрын
It’s still better to use the STAB dig move. 75 effective power verse 70. Not to mention you didn’t take any damage during all of dig. Two turns of scratch means you take one more turn where the enemy can hit you. You then need to heal more or do more attempts within a battle.
