What is the Trans Madeira?
The Trans Madeira is multi day blind mountain bike race that showcases everything Madeira has to offer. Over five days of racing through the World’s most diverse terrain, riders will explore all corners of the island, each day will start high in the mountains and finish down at the ocean.

Some FAQ about my bike:
- I'm riding a size large, I'm 189cm (a 6 foot 2).
- The cable integration is easy to install and work on (check out the bike build)
- The bike has a 150mm of travel and I've spec'd my build with a 160mm fork and grip 2 damper

I really enjoyed stage 4 & 6 follow cam for a sense of the terrain. Solo POV looks really flat, it wasn't until third person / drone footage that I realised how downhill it was!

Those trails look sick. Too bad that flat killed your podium chance but all in all the overall fun factor looks to be the most important. Great series Scotty.

Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it! Stats are all there, I’d say they’re challenging but manageable days on the bike for a rider who’s out doing a few big days a month and a couple of rides a week.

Hey Scotty ! Great videos ! It all looked like so much fun, that I signed up for the summer 2024 race. Question... do you think it would be possible to do the race on a park/freeride 29er bike (like a Canyon Torque 29er) ? Would the climbing suck too much on that kind of bike ? Or should one most definitely be riding a more proper Enduro race bike ? Any thoughts about bike choices for this specific race ? Was there an overall clear choice of bike among competitors, or was there a bit of everything out there ? Thanks !!!

Scotty I have just watched all of your videos of the race, it was awesome!. My folks live there (Near machico) I’m thinking of taking the family over at some point to visit my folks (I live in Oz so it’s a bit of a mission) and doing this event, kill two birds with one stone 😄. Just curious how come you didn’t wear a full face helmet like everyone else? At times did you wish you had worn one? Would you do anything different if you were to do this event again?

Hey mate! Great questions. I’d 100% recommend it and failing not making the race, Freeride Madeira do a great job of organising shuttles to take you to the best trails. We did a day of riding with them before the race and it was awesome. I would probably want to wear a light weight full face - next time for sure!

Just wondering if the shuttles are including in the elevation and kilometers? As the days seem very big. I have done 40km 1500m elev. gain Enduros but they were just one day long.

Generally you’d take 1 or 2 big shuttles in a day. The stats were for the descent total, they were big but brilliant days on the bike…

Flew with Jet2 from Manchester, they fly direct a couple of times a week and were reasonable and easy to deal with. No problems with bringing bike either just make sure you get a descent bag to protect it! Can't recommend the race enough...
