I was thinking the same thing, often and in other sports the athletes get so defensive and secretive it doesn't usually go like this.

It is amazing how candid they were with him. My take on the smiles is that these guys know they are badasses, show it all the time, and never get to talk about it openly. Their egos liked the rare opportunity to shine light on the machine that they built.

LOVE this content. Fascinating. When I raced MX (just local level) I also ran to stay in shape; I would do a 10 mile run every year in under 56 minutes, and I could run a mile in 4:42 at that time. But after a little 5 lap moto I was FAR more exhausted than after these runs which in retrospect were pretty decent. Moto is freakin' gnarly in all ways.

Surprisingly when it comes to weight lifting, these guys are not as strong as I would’ve thought, but it truly comes down to riding skill and endurance.

Yeah for them it’s about weight to strength ratio/balance and endurance. Then at the top it’s just time on the bike. None them try to be strong really.. it’s just what they have to do for racing at the top.

I know cardio capacity is huge for MX and SX racers but I being a little stronger I don't think would hurt as stronger muscles around certain joints can help prevent certain joint type injuries. I know there needs to be a balance but I would think some muscle mass in critical areas can help some get off injuries.
@goldsbym
@goldsbym 8 ай бұрын
Motocross is more endurance than strength. Some strength is important however too much muscle just pumps up the muscles with too much blood and you can't ride when you are pumped up. Arm pump is a huge problem for a lot of riders and usually those riders have been strength training.
@jameshinton429
@jameshinton429 8 ай бұрын
Lifting weights is boring. Core strength and cardio matter most and lifting weights isn’t the best way to do that. I can’t lift weights as I have too many injuries and it’s not feasible so I stay in shape by working physically for a living and playing hard.

Amature? I told people then, that MX made Football practice seem easy, and no one believes me. 3 mile runs at a heavy pace, not a jog lol, was actually easy. Peddal bike, yea forever it seems. BUT!!! Then I messed up and went heavy. Notice how none say they bench much. I went Bench a tun short reps, and all of a sudden 2 laps I was worn, not the way to go. Why boxers dont look like Body builders lol

This is actually cool to see. I was a pro but on the atv gncc side of things but did a lot of the same. 5k’s, 10k’s, 3 sets of 30 pull ups, 50 mile bike rides, but my favorite was being 185lbs and benching 315lb was my record at 18 years old. Now at 40 my knees and shoulders are shot

This is so informative! I'm always trying to read between the lines of instagram posts from the top guys' gym sessions and work out where their fitness level is at. The Martin brothers have got some sickening running times! I don't thin the 5km times for most of the riders reflect how fit they really are. This makes me want to go out and see where my max is on all of these right now. Great content.

Sexton.....Lol...!! I just felt like running ...Run forest run... 😆 Thank you Alex for creating and sharing this content. 100 % Respect for you and all the athletes that race. Very cool, interesting and original idea for a video. I've been going to the Spring Creek Pro National every year with my 3 sons since '02 . Your fam. operates a top shelf facility. We love it and appreciate all the work that goes into it. I always stay until late Sunday...early Mon. My biggest workout for fitness is a walk for idk how many miles. But I do it for approximately 20 hours. At Spring Creek MX Park after the Pro Race. I walk the entire track and all of the camping and parking field areas picking up garbage that people leave on the ground. It breaks my heart the way some people disrespect that property. I bring and use my own hefty bags to gather up the trash and they can get quite heavy. The most bags I've filled, lifted and carried in a day was 23. No one ever asked me to or pays me to do this.I do it to show respect and do what I can to help out and hopefully ensure that Milleville will continue to be included in The AMA Pro National Motocross Championship Schedule in the future. I live in upper midwest Wisco and its the only Pro event that I can afford to go see. Its only a 2 hr drive for me. I really wish Pro SX still came to MN. Any who..... ... The trash bag carrying and lifting combined with all the walking I do from Thursday - Sunday on that Pro race weekend is a hecka good workout. Hmmm....🤔. Im guessing that not only are mx racers at a very high level of fitness. But also "Motocross fans" are probably more fit and actually participate in the sport they are a fan of. VS other sports such as Nascar, boxing, baseball etc. ✌️n♥ T.L.E.

As a college wrestler on a top ten team in the late seventies we were a lot stronger. We did a lot more chin-ups, sit ups and pushups. We shared strength coaches and doctors with an NFL team. 500 every morning in the weight room. We had some guys that were good runners others not so good. One of my teammates was a state champ cross country champ. He could do 5 minute miles no problem. We all had to be able to do 12 minute two miles on a track. As an amateur motocross rider in the late 80s. I lived next to Jeff Glass. We had a lot of pros staying at his house. They were in good shape on the bike. Being in shape for one of the sports helped in the other but with out training for that sport didn’t work. I got to practice with works riders from all the teams. Jeff Leisk use to give my young son a piece of his cloths after most of his races. I can tell you a thirty minute moto or an eight minute wrestling match will wear you out.

It's crazy to put something like this in perspective. I've been "training" all my life to be strong but seeing the top pros barely doing warm up weight on some stuff is wild. Not talking shit but I was always under the impression that you have to be as strong as an ox to be able to throw around a motorcycle like some of these fellas do. I guess that's quite the opposite! Solid interviews!

They aren’t trying to blow up weight lifting for looks. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t strong. In moto we focus on not only cardio endurance but muscle endurance as well. No need to bench 300lbs. Don’t want to be too heavy either. Think you could beat Tomac or Sexton in an arm wrestling comp?

@@tucker932 Oh for sure, I never expected anyone racing MX/SX for a living to be able to bench a shitload, I'm just way off with what I would have thought strength would be from the top dudes. I'm no Devon Larratt but I think I could hold my own in an arm wrestling match between those two fellers :p
