Obi Wan was not in love with Padme. He just knew what was going on between her and Anakin but cared for both of them enough to not say a thing. What makes the prequels so amazing really is Anakin seeing that the Jedi are hypocrites, that in his eyes they are evil for creating a war and throwing away their values of peace and justice, when Anakin had to give up so much to follow the code of the Jedi, that the Jedi themselves don't need to follow. People think that Padme is the sole reason Anakin turned to the dark side, but it is only showing Anakins love for compassion and his will to only do good and seeing that power is necessary to do good. He already viewed the Jedi as hypocrites that feared him and his power, but what truly turned him against the Jedi is seeing that the Jedi were about to murder the one man that seemed to sympathize with Anakin and share his points of view. Other Jedi feared him and that Obi wan came to assassinate him. He didn't truly see that what him and the emperor was doing was evil until the emperor was going to kill his only son for him showing mercy to Vader, which is what Anakin tried to show to Palpatine. He Anakin did the exact same thing to the emperor as what he did to mace Windu, he had to aggressively stop the slaughter of the helpless. Everyone who doesn't like the prequels for this reason that it seems like Anakin went from a helpless boy to an evil overlord should watch The Clone Wars, and see the true evolution of Anakin Skywalker. When did the Jedi start a war? (They didn't) The separatist movement did, and the Republic defended itself. The Jedi accepted their duty to lead the troops, but if they hadn't, other people would have instead - people who didn't value peace so much. Anakin knew this, and the war's not why he left. I have yet to see or hear a single good argument for why the Jedi are hypocritical.

Couldn't you say that the Jedi were hypocritical ever since they've pledged their allegiance to the Republic? Jedi are supposed to be symbols of peace and guardians for all creatures of the galaxy. By supporting the Republic during the Clone Wars, the Jedi basically condemned the peaceful inhabitants of the Separatist planets. Not to mention that their acceptance to become generals of the army is completely against their ideals. Jedi are meant to be defenders, not aggressors. So with little to no military knowledge or experience why do they willingly become generals of the army? Sure they wanted to end the war but they had no authority in the matter; the army (and thus its generals) were under orders of the Republic Senate. By willingly accepting such positions, they prevent themselves from having any say in the results of the war. Not wanting to start a big argument, just my two cents.

I think it's better if you assume that Obi-Wan fell in love with Padmé but never did anything about it. Maybe Lucas could've thought about it and included it, which would've made Anakin's fall make more sense, having Anakin find out about Obi-Wan's feelings and incorrectly assume that Padmé cheated on him with Obi-Wan. The scene in Mustafar hints at that dropped subplot. "Liar! You're with him! You brought him here to kill me!" It would make it that much more tragic if Obi-Wan decides to take care of Luke because he feels guilty that his feelings are what brought about Anakin's fall and the downfall of the entire Jedi Order. Plus, does no one remember that Obi-Wan literally asks Padmé "Anakin is the father, isn't he?" when he sees Padmé pregnant?

People come up with incredibly dumb excuses as to why the prequels aren't bad movies. "Everyone's just nostalgia blind, the OT sucks!" or "People only shit on the prequels cause it's the hipster thing to do, bandwagon bandwagon!" The truth is, 99% of the people who saw the prequels hate the prequels because they are attrocities of filmmaking. They're absolutely terrible. That's not to say you can't like or enjoy them, but on a fundamental level, those movies are terrible. The nostalgia excuse is especially stupid, because the people who love the prequels are usually the ones who watched them when they were kids. That's still no excuse, though. I saw the prequels when I was a kid, but I at least grew up and realized how bad they are.

I think I'm rather in the middle. I watched the originals first when I was young and then wanted to see the prequels. They were ok at that time. Later I went back and watched them all and felt that the originals blew the prequels away in almost everyway. I absolutely refuse to watch 1 again, watching 2 takes a bit of courage. I say 3 wasn't the worse thing that ever happened. 4,5,6, and probably even 7 were better in my book tl:dr I feel 1 and 2 are objectively awful, 3 is ok, and then the originals are pretty fucking good. Second half of Rogue One is also incredible.

It's still difficult to fall in love with someone who you've known when they were a child unless you were also a child. Unless the time spent with the child was very brief and there were years of separation before meeting again and falling in love. I'm not saying women (or men) can't fall in love with people who are younger than them, but for the majority of those cases, both parties met as adults when they fell in love, never meeting as adult (or teen) and child. It's easy to imagine a child crushing on an adult though. Anakin falling in love with Padme is understandable, but Padme falling in love with Anakin is improbable.

Nah, the novelizations of prequels make it clear that the person who Obi-Wan is in love with is... Anakin (also, Anakin loves him back). There's liberal use of the word "love" both ways, Padmé has a moment of introspection where she basically acknowledges that yes, Obi-Wan is her rival when it comes to Anakin's affection and he loves them both equally. When Anakin gets hurt during a mission, Obi-Wan and Padmé have a love-off where they basically compete over who loves Anakin more and then there's a section where Obi-Wan wakes up while being carried by Anakin with Anakin's butt right in front of his face and spends an entire page ruminating on the wonders of Anakin's butt.

I've got my own fan theory that actually dovetails nicely with this one: Padme never legitimately fell in love with Anakin. He spent all of Ep 2 attempting to Jedi Mind Trick her into submission. Just watch the fireplace scene and assume that every time he squints, he's poking at her mind. Then extend that to the whole movie. *It works.* And it makes her out-of-nowhere and way too strident declaration of love in the Arena make so much more sense. Then, along with this vid, you've got yourself a legitimate love triangle going on that also mirrors the Light vs Dark themes of all the Star Wars movies, with the battleground being Padme's heart and soul.

TL;DR This theory does not make the story better. Things that bother me about this theory: 1. If Obi Wan is the father of the twins, he just didn’t give a shit about Leia. 2. It ruins the parallels of Luke’s story to Vader’s, not to mention that is completely screws up Force Awakens. This means that family fucking up the galaxy is the Kenobi’s not the Skywalker’s. And Kylo Ren is actually worshiping his grandmother’s semi-love interest that has no connection to him at all. 3. Obi Wan sleeping with his best friend’s wife is such betrayal to his character. And if Padme liked Obi Wan, she sure as hell is sending mixed signals to Anakin like going on romantic getaways, kissing him, marrying him in secret, sleeping with him, etc. What would be Padme’s motivation to manipulate Anakin if she wanted Obi Wan? Why would she “lose the will to live”? 4. In Ep.I, their ages are Anakin 9, Padme 14, and Obi Wan 25. While it makes sense for Padme to have crush on a 25 year old, it’s pretty cringe worthy for Obi Wan to crush on a 14 year old. Padme and Anakin’s early friendship was just that, a friendship. Their platonic bond doesn’t change until 10 years later when Padme realizes Anakin got hot. (It’s like all the mothers that suddenly got the hots for Justin Bieber when he turned 18). Padme and Obi Wan’s relationship seems more like brother/sister. The prequels fine, just accept that Jar Jar is the Sith Lord that orchestrated the decent of Anakin.

"Thanks Obi-Wan, I appreciate you taking care of my one and only baby," is totally something that a Padme who lost everything would say to him before she slipped away to her second, even-more-secret-er kid. 2. I actually think it should be a mystery for the whole series whether the kids are Obi's or Anakin's, makes things more mysterious! And confusing! Like the real world! 3. On a side note: If you think about it, Padme had the largest role in creating the Imperial Empire and allowing the Sith to win. Maggie is hardly a genius, I don't think she payed much attention to Star Wars at all. Padme never requested a guardian in Ep II - in fact she categorically disliked the idea. Obi Wan himself reminded Anakin to be careful about emotions and to be true to the Jedi order in Ep. II - why would he go and break that rule himself by having an affair?.............he was later elevated to the level of Jedi Master (ie: someone who follows the rules) and joined the Jedi Council. If he were to have sex, especially an affair, he would be selfish - effectively embracing the dark side - which is something the Council would have sensed. Besides its cannon from the Clone Wars animated series that he had a romance with Satine. Your point about Padme touching Obi Wan's thigh is ridiculous - she was trying to make sure he was safely on board the animal, where else could she have touched him? As for the age difference point, that too is wrong. Padme was 14 when Anakin was 9 and Obi Wan is in his mid 20s. She is far more closer to Anakin's age than to Obi Wan's age. Also at the end of Ep I she wasn't looking to Anakin in some sort of romantic way, but in friendship..........she was sympathetic to this kid who was separated from his mother. If you bothered to pay attention, she and Anakin spent time getting to know each other and she spent no time at all with Obi Wan. You made a point in Ep II that Padme was concerned about Obi Wan when he was in danger on Geonosis as some sort of romantic implication. Wrong. She was just a good person. If you recall, Padme fell out of a ship while chasing Dooku and Anakin wanted to land the ship and was very passionate about it, however Obi Wan could not care less and reminded Anakin to focus on Dooku. Speaking of Dooku, after he messed up Obi Wan and Anakin and he came to a draw with Yoda, Padme rushed towards Anakin NOT Obi Wan. The vision Anakin had wasn't about an affair but it clearly shows Padme in trouble. Even if Obi Wan was somehow the father, why would he happily watch over Luke and not Leia? Most fathers are attached to their daughters, he would have to be pretty cold and/or sexist to just give away his daughter. In Ep IV, Obi Wan is hesitant to tell Luke about his dad because who wants to hear their father is the most evil man in the galaxy? It makes no narrative sense for Obi Wan to lie if he was the real father, at that point Luke just knows Vader as pure evil, why would Obi Wan feel uncomfortable? He wouldn't have to know the details about the affair. The Emperor himself knew Luke was Vader's kid - he could sense it, he said so in Empire Strikes Back. If Luke wasn't Vader's kid, don't you think the Emperor would use that knowledge to further fuel Vader's hatred and subsequent strength in the dark side? In summary, your interpretation is filled with flat out wrong facts, really bad interpretations, and terrible conclusions.

No way. It makes it way better. Luke is Obi-Wan's child. Killing Obi-Wan didn't take away his anger, and attempting to kill Obi-Wan's son didn't either. So Vader hatches a scheme to surprise him at Cloud City and wear him down physically and psychologically so he could fuck with his head. He knew Luke's parentage would be in question, so just to be a bastard and really destroy his enemy's son and get a better revenge, he waits for a weak moment and then pounces on him by claiming to be his father. If you view all of it that way, it's so much more epic. Vader's motivations make more sense. Why would he want to try to kill his own son or fail to recognize him the first time he saw him? It's an elaborate revenge plot! Way more interesting.

How? How does it actually make any sense to the story as a whole in any way? It doesn't make any sense at all on the ending of the movie certainly at all, it completely destroys those scenes. Then you have Yoda lying, you have a complete break of Kenobi's character, you have broke one of the biggest plot twists in cinema history, you have the kind of cheese the prequels were criticized for taken to a much further level, it retcons half the story and is really, really dumb. It destroys the story. It breaks Vader's progression, it breaks Kenobi's character, it destroys the main story that the entire universe is built around.

It would actually not break the story or characters if the twins had different fathers. Vader fathered Luke at the same time Obi Wan fathered Leah. Its biologically possible and only really destroys Padme's character a little. Obi Wan was never the most honorable Jedi Knight. He lied to Luke "stretching the truth". He was rebellious to the counsel. He had at least 1 other love affair. Padme's honor is in question here having 2 lovers but its not an uncommon thing at all. It would even explain a few things. Like why Vader figured out that Luke is his son after only a few chance meetings and not Leah who, being a senator, I'm sure he's had much more contact with. He interrogated her and never got so much as a sense that something was strange about her. When he figures out Leah is Luke's sister he says "Sister, you have a twin sister" He never uses the word daughter. He does mention Obi Wan's failure is complete. At most it might mess up Kylo in the new trilogy but we have yet to see what happens.

You know it's funny, canonically, the age difference is way different. Anakin is nine, padme is fourteen, and obi wan is 25. so I see Anakin as the less creepy option. if I were to improve the prequels with only one major change, I'd do it by making Anakin fifteen. it'd be a nice homage to the original, and give credence to Luke and his very quick mastery of the force. it would also impressive other things. In episode one it could set up the very non creepy romance bit, it would give the council's initial decision more meaning (fifteen year olds are cocky assholes) it would make every single Anakin scene more believable, especially the accidental " I blew up the federation ship and won the war" thing. it would also shift the balance of the movie and dialogue so that he is more involved, and cutting out as much as possible of a certain unsavory individual. on to episode two. not a whole lot changes here, just make the time gap five years instead of ten, to accentuate his prodigy skill level, and to start a firm foundation with padme that is way less rapey, as instead of this weird cougar hunter thing, we can see a more mature, but fundamentally still cocky young adult, a real Han like character, with a lot more power that he takes granted and has fun with when no one's looking. As he wasn't really stunted by how young he left his mom, he isn't such a bitch, he had time before becoming a Jedi to get more world wise, and now instead of "I have to save my mommy" we get someone full of guilt, because at fifteen, he feels like there was more he could have done to save his mom, and it's a bit fresher in his mind. his relationship with obi wan is not too different, very junior cop to senior detective still, but makes more sense as the age gap isn't quite as large, and they've had the necessary closeness of age to develop a more equal brotherhood for episode three on to episode three. another five years pass, and while things aren't massively different, moms dead, he's secretly married, she's pregnant, he's found more equal footing with obi wan, but now instead of the weird emotionless to emotional mood swings he has cause he never had any real teenage development, he has some coping mechanisms, he's gotten to the point where he's ambitious. instead of the mess that was episode three, he advanced so quickly in the first five years to be a Jedi knight that he didn't quite understand why he isn't a master, and it's beyond his control, which makes him itch, he feels the need to be in control. he's chafing against the reins and that's the ultimate reason he turns, he wants to get more powerful quicker. not some fever dream of a dying padme, he just thinks he's the chosen one so he has to get more powerful. And his choice to turn should be earlier, something he hides from everyone from early on second act, and watch as they slowly realize it

Good idea. I would put him at 13 though instead of 15. It's the perfect age to not be a child, but still have zero control of your life. Additionally, it would keep him younger than Padme, an important fact in their relationship. Anakin, powerless at age 13 would meet a queen only one year older than him. Already, she would seem very mature to him despite the lack of a real age gap. This would be a driving factor in his development during his Jedi training over the next 5 years. Anakin would work hard to prove himself a mature Jedi the next time he met Padme. When he does in episode 2, he would be 18 and she would be 19. Anakin would think that he'd matured enough for her only to realize that he had not. He was still a cocky kid and she a respected Senator. Although the relationship/marriage would still happen, Anakin would harbor feelings of inadequacy, which would push him even more towards ambition and power.

I'd agree with making Anakin fifteen in Episode 1, if for no other reason, for the fact that it would help to streamline the movie a bit more by taking out unnecessary plots in favor of expanding necessary character growth. What i mean by that is getting rid of Tatooine altogether and expanding the time they are on Naboo to start having the palace rescue mirror the Death Star rescue in A New Hope. I know, I know. TFA got shit on from aping ANH and Empire too much, but it all depends how how you do such things as if they ultimately work well.

If we are going by actor-age, we have a 10 year old Anakin, an 18 year old Padme and a 28 year old Obi-Wan. So yeah, TECHNICALLY the age gap between Padme and Anakin is bigger, but still, a romance between the older of these two makes a LITTLE bit more sense, doesn't it? Besides, even if we assume Padme is meant to be a bit younger, it's still WAY more likely she'd be crushing on an "older guy" than on a child. And since the movies are supposed to be 10 years apart, she'd be in her 20's in the second movie regardless, which makes a theoretical relationship between her and Obi-Wan zero creepy.

When I watch the prequels, I ignore everything having to do with Anakin and Padme. The stuff with Palpatine trying to mold the Republic into the Empire works very well. They should have made that the main focus, rather than Anakin's love story with Padme. The twist in Empire Strikes Back wouldn't have been spoiled nearly as bad if they had only focused on the fall of the Republic in the prequels, and not the fall of Anakin.

I think Obi-Wan goes after that flying robot delivering the worms because he's an awesome Jedi (although come to think of it he does make the point to Anakin that they're there to protect her and not to track down the assassin, but Obi-Wan is just that honourable and awesome). The rushing to Geonosis to save Obi-Wan doesn't have to be anything to do with love, just being a decent person, and as mentioned previously they're old friends. When yoda tells Obi-Wan to search his feelings to look for Anakin, obviously he goes to Padme because he knows about the two of them so if anyone would know where, it'd be her. Obi-Wan going to look over Luke on Tatooine makes sense as he needs to stay in hiding (Tatooine is a remote location) and as Anakin is really strong with the force so his son could also be, someone could also come looking for Luke so Obi-Wan's there to protect him. Ben being cagey about Luke parentage also makes sense in the fact that they can't really give away that Vader is Luke's father at the begining of episode 4 lol. This whole theory attacks the honour and integrity of Obi-Wan as a Jedi and as my favourite Jedi I guess my points are a little defensive, I suppose a watcher of the movies that's not quite as big a fan as I am could be able to see this love affair but I don't buy it at all

Okay you couldn't possibly be more wrong. In the OT the reason Anakin kills the Emperor is because he realizes the wrong he's done and understands why he turned to the dark side to begin with. He turned because he was enticed by the power that promised to save the woman he loved when the ironic thing was that doing the opposite would've yielded the same result of Padme getting saved. In ROTJ, he saw the devotion his own son had for those that he loved and saw the lengths to which he was willing to go to protect them. Just like his father. In ROTS, while on Mustafar he does have a moment of self reflection and though he sheds a tear for what he's done and all that he's killed. Then Padme arrives and by this time he had already strayed too far away from the light and was drunk on the power that he now possessed. Seeing Obi-Wan whom he thought was a traitor based on his ideology and the fact that he also had a hand in bending the Jedi Code despite merely following the council's or more so Mace's command to spy on the chancellor, triggered him to think that Padme had betrayed him. He started strangling her in a blind rage until he and Obi Wan started their duel. During the fight, Anakin only thought of his hatred for the Jedi and for Obi and it fueled his fighting however, once he was cut down and lay there burning nearly to death on a beach of lava, he only thought of Padme. And as she laid on the operating table delivering Luke and Leia, she still thought of Anakin. If this secret relationship had happened, not only would it have his redemption less meaningful. As for your evidence, 1. Anakin and Obi Wan hadn't seen her in years and according to them, there wasn't a single mission that they went on where they weren't together. 2. Anakin may have been strong in the force, but there is no way that he could've mind tricked her unless he was constantly trying. 3. Padme wouldn't have continued to entertain his advances if she were with Obi Wan. 4. The age gap between Anakin and Padme by Episode 1 is much less creepy than the age gap between Obi Wan and Padme. 5. The whole hand touching his thigh thing. I'm pretty certain that was just so Natalie Portman could stabalize herself after helping him up since it's not shown any other time. 6. She was crying because she had the feeling that things were falling apart and she was under the impression that Anakin might have been killed at the Jedi Temple. 7. Obi Wan only came to Padme because he knew that Anakin would've told her where he had gone. 8. Why would she refuse to tell Obi Wan where Anakin had gone to try and keep Obi Wan from killing him? 9. Anakin hated Obi Wan because he blindly followed the council despite it's hypocrisy and obvious lack of integrity. 10. The only way the movies could've been any better would've been if Jar Jar was less annoying and turned out to be a sith lord, if the dialog was less cringe worthy, and if the performances were more natural like Ewan's. Your fanfiction is just that. Fanfiction. It won't make the prequel's storyline which is already a masterpiece any better

Or give him the biggest plot twist of all - Jar Jar is the ultimate Sith Lord. He's a CGI character; every pixel of him was done on purpose. So, when he's silently mouthing words and Padme repeats them out loud, or when he does a Jedi Leap into the water, those are instances where he's showing he is not what he seems. Or rather, the animators are showing that. I think this was Lucas's plan all along, but he chickened out when he saw how much audiences hated Jar Jar in the first movie.

Firstly, I don't believe Padme was really in love with Anakin at the time of Episode 1. She just thought he was a cute boy. Sure... He had a crush on her (which is normal for a young boy to have a crush on an older girl) ,but I don't believe it was mutual. So the thing is, despite public misconceptions, Padme is not much older then Anakin. Despite her composure, she is a queen after all, she's actually only like 14-15 in Phantom Menace and Anakin is like 10. Thats a 4-5 year difference. Where-as Obi-wan is around the age of 25-26, which is MUCH older. So if anything is "creepy" it's a mid twenties dude having the hots for a 14 year old. Where as a 10 year old having a crush on a 14 is pretty normal., "cute" even. If it was any creepy then Obi-wan would have a thin-line beard cut, a single earring, drive a 2002 Mustang and be saying "Age is just a number". And Padme wasn't even into Anakin until the second film which was something like 10 years after Phantom Menace. Myth Busted.

if Anikin is 9 and Padme is 14 then the difference is 5 years but OBI WAN IS 25 and 25-14 is 11 How does that Make OBI wan CLOSER to HER age???

that part makes sense but not the closer in age part. Its a fact Anikin was closer. IN the book the relationship with Anikin was written way better there was no question the two liked each other.
