It's actually really bittersweet for me - only because I wish everyone would've supported George when the allegations came out from Caiti, but it was EXTREMELY depressing and disappointing seeing everybody on twitter just hating on him even when he didn't give his side yet. Super annoying. And now that everybody had time to think, of course everybody is supporting George because he's obviously in the right. Honestly those that supported Caiti the second Caiti accused George should be investigated for brain damage
@zhanhao94565 ай бұрын
I think George's main downfall was the fact that he was addressing how "he felt" or "how the situation changed his perspective", where in my opinion, it was completely irrelevant as the whole drama had been "facts (George) vs Emotions (Caiti)". He tried for a second to "redeem" himself based on the lies shared by Caiti, instead of sticking to his own story. Also, I didn't follow the drama from the start but became quite evident how Caiti kept on speaking with emotions rather than providing anything of substance. George already provided additional evidence (non-verbal consent even observed by friend), so why is she repeating her first point instead of debunking the new evidence? I support cancelling/punishing SA perpetrators but it's sad to see how everyone throws everyone else under the bus when it comes to preserving their online fame without verifying what happened first.

Law student here. Just to give some legal context, in virtually all jurisdictions including the UK and US, INTOXICATED CONSENT **COULD** STILL BE VALID CONSENT. The key differentiator isn't whether it was given while the person is intoxicated or not, but whether the person actually still has the CAPACITY to give consent. Just because you had some alcohol does not mean you are completely out of control of your actions and are not responsible for any of consequences of your conduct. It's a matter of degree. If you are SO drunk that it's objectively clear that you are completely unable to given consent then and only then could you claim that the consent you gave was invalid. If intoxicated consent could never amount to valid consent, then anybody who touches alcohol prior to any sexual conduct could potentially accuse the other of sexual assault/rape, a really stupid scenario. Being drunk isn't a get out of jail free card, just use common sense - eg a drunken driver is still responsible for his actions. Stop undermining the legitimacy of justified claims of sexual assault/rape.

This happened to me in highschool. A girl and her friends didn't like me... so she got close/flirted with me, I felt there was some physical consent, and barely anything happened. But the next day, she lied to the principal and the police saying that I r*ed her, and I got expelled and was facing sexual assault charges at 14. The ridiculous situation only ended because the *actual* incident was caught on the cameras in the school. Unfortunately, the damage was done, my friends abandoned me, and I had to move schools. Often times, men don’t win in cases like this, especially when it comes to the aftermath of being accused, like losing friends, environments, scholarships or sponsorships, sometimes even jobs, no matter if it's the truth, or if it's just completely made-up. Real sexual assault victims get taken less seriously when things like this happen, simply because someone wants to make someone else's life harder. What a pathetic world we live in. Edit: “Barely anything happened” was a way for me to keep my personal life a little more personal, not “downplay” what happened. However, it has been brought to light that during the incident, Caiti was actually 17 and heavily intoxicated, despite her claim of being 'freshly 18' in her statement. Additionally, Caiti's reliance on her phone while giving her statement contrasts with George's direct engagement with the camera. These discrepancies underline the necessity of a comprehensive and impartial investigation to ensure all relevant details are thoroughly examined and justice is appropriately served for both parties.

Also I think part of the problem is he didn't clarify exactly what he was apologising for when he should have. I think he meant his first apology was an "I am sorry I played a part in making you feel uncomfortable" a simple apology for an accidental harm, like one would apologise for bumping into someone in a crowd or for making a well meaning joke or jab that hurt your friends feelings. These moments of accidental harm are ones we are taught to apologise for, and I appreciate the awareness of seeing that just because I and others saw it as harmless didn't mean I didn't cause harm. However many people nowadays don't like to apologise for accidents so when you don't clarify (or even when you do) they assume its an admission. The second apology I think was more along the lines of "I was not at all aware there was a possible power dynamic issue in potential relationships, sorry you and others might have been caught in this." I think he did clarify this one better but I think people are less aware of the danger of financial and reputational power imbalances in relationships and might not be as aware as he was about the severity of this issue. Frankly he dealt with is so maturely but lately it feels many people don't realise that a truly empathic person will want to apologise for accidents, for hurt they see even if they do not understand (emotions aren't logical) and to make a promise to be better.

"In the moment, I was chilling". She was so comfortable in fact, that she got up after the undershirt touching, to say goodbye to her best friend who wasn't feeling well, and decided that instead of going with her sick friend back to their room, she'd rather stay with George instead, someone she knew was 8 years older than her, whom she had already been cuddling with and had the undershirt touching already happen, and went back to his arms for more the cuddling/touching. BUT, the next day, when her little friends/new acquaintances started gossiping about how she and George were cuddling and that he had touched her under her shirt, this is what happened: After being asked how she felt about it by a couple people the next day who used language like "I didn't like how touchy he was being" or "he was really touchy", she decided to save face and not look like 'that kind of girl' aka 'groupie-lite' to these people by making up a story which completely removed her agency. She did not want to admit to these people that in fact she was perfectly fine with being cuddly with a guy she knew was 8 years her senior who she had only met the day before, and even chose to stay and continue the cuddling/under shirt touching instead of leaving with her friend because she was completely comfortable that night with the situation. So Caiti changed the truth of her choosing to drink, to the lie that it was that she was made to drink. The truth that she was knowingly being flirty and cuddling with someone 8 years her senior, to the lie that it was George who took advantage of the age gap on purpose. The truth that she was enjoying being in the company of someone famous, to the lie that it was George wielding his fame/power over her. And the truth that she was enjoying her time with him and consenting to the touching/flirting back (which there is nothing morally wrong with that), to the lie that it was that George did it suddenly out of nowhere. She regretted the gossip and views the other people had about that night of her and George being cuddly/touchy feely (not one person stated that Caiti looked uncomfortable, just that the age gap / touchiness made THEM uncomfortable), and that is what drove her to fabricate the whole no consent story. Which is the other reason why she kept on reiterating about it being 'in front of everyone' and even made the outlandish claim in her third version, that it would have been better if it happened when they were alone. It wasn't because she was uncomfortable that people were watching, it was that those that saw, gossiped about it later, and felt put into a position where she either had to admit she was 'that kind of girl' that they wouldn't approve of (especially with George), or concoct a lie which removes her agency (free will completely). It is literally the modus operandi of every false accuser - they feel a real harm or threat from a third party (ex. friend catches you cheating with a married man, so will think you are a home wrecker), so they make up a story to remove their agency (ex. that actually it was not consensual, but rape).

It's the fact George, dream and sapnap suddenly switched like this was a serious situation when it was nothing less than them cuddling when they were drunk seriously shows how easy the internet gets to them to make them feel guilty.

I am just guessing here, but I'd imagine they all talked about it, and came to the conclusion that the best way forward for their brands, was to apologize and side with the "victim", bc regardless of what evidence you have to exonerate yourself, there will still be a huge portion of their audience who will support her. Plus, if you're a kind person, you don't feel okay with someone who is "hurt" bc of you, even if you KNOW you didn't do anything.

And you know what's the worst about George's situation (aside from real victims of SA not being taken seriously because of cases like her of course) ? No matter if it was proven wrong or not, there will still be people who will remember him as "that guy who was accused of SA". There's so many stories of men being falsly accused of a crime, and even after it was proven IN COURT that they did nothing wrong, can't find a decent job because rumors on them sticks.
