Caiti is not only wrong morally, but also legally - the concept of consent is very dependent on the situation which is why a non-verbal consent clause exists in legislation. Caiti's smiling, 1 hour consensual cuddling, + willingly going back after getting back multiple times would fall under non verbal consent (really, search it up!). Really, what everyone should be saying, Caiti got what she deserved and it was unfair that George was hated on by millions (maybe even tens of millions, just look at the twitter statistics on whos viewed tweets) and lost multiple brand deals. Honestly those that supported Caiti the second Caiti accused George should be investigated for brain damage
@zhanhao94567 ай бұрын
I think George's main downfall was the fact that he was addressing how "he felt" or "how the situation changed his perspective", where in my opinion, it was completely irrelevant as the whole drama had been "facts (George) vs Emotions (Caiti)". He tried for a second to "redeem" himself based on the lies shared by Caiti, instead of sticking to his own story. Also, I didn't follow the drama from the start but became quite evident how Caiti kept on speaking with emotions rather than providing anything of substance. George already provided additional evidence (non-verbal consent even observed by friend), so why is she repeating her first point instead of debunking the new evidence? I support cancelling/punishing SA perpetrators but it's sad to see how everyone throws everyone else under the bus when it comes to preserving their online fame without verifying what happened first.

She was hot af, and very popular, so she was used to manipulate the teachers into getting her better scores, so she used this as a means to do the same to him. However, he refused completely, and she pushed further and further, to the point that he replied furiously "I do not mess with kids" (he used a curse word, but I'll leave it like this) and pushed her. Since she had taken her blouse off, she took advantage of this, and ran through the school, looking for a teacher until she got one, and got him reported and arrested. I've been watching George's videos since I was 9. They've always been a huge comfort to me during my personal family problems. He's always been one of my favourite youtubers and I remember always feeling very joyus when I saw him smile or laugh. I can't believe this is happening to him honestly. Seeing his tired eyes in this video really really deeply destroys me. He's so so so so sweet and doesn't deserve anything even slightly bad at all. Also, I've been an SA survivor, I got t0uched for 2 years by my mum's ex bf, only realising when I was 10. My SA experience is the most traumatic thing for me. I'm 13 now and still think of it. every night before I go to bed I can't stop thinking abt it, every morning when I wake up, my mum's ex bf is my first thought. I'm scared to go out bc we live in the same small town. It's so so traumatizing and the fact that someone even has the audacity to accuse such a sweet person of something as terrifying as SA makes me SO mad. What makes me even MORE mad is the fact that Sapnap and Dream, who have also been my favourite youtubers for years, decided to SIDE with Caiti. This is disgusting. Law student here. Just to give some legal context, in virtually all jurisdictions including the UK and US, INTOXICATED CONSENT **COULD** STILL BE VALID CONSENT. The key differentiator isn't whether it was given while the person is intoxicated or not, but whether the person actually still has the CAPACITY to give consent. Just because you had some alcohol does not mean you are completely out of control of your actions and are not responsible for any of consequences of your conduct. It's a matter of degree. If you are SO drunk that it's objectively clear that you are completely unable to given consent then and only then could you claim that the consent you gave was invalid. If intoxicated consent could never amount to valid consent, then anybody who touches alcohol prior to any sexual conduct could potentially accuse the other of sexual assault/rape, a really stupid scenario. Being drunk isn't a get out of jail free card, just use common sense - eg a drunken driver is still responsible for his actions. Stop undermining the legitimacy of justified claims of sexual assault/rape.

A better solution is... Maybe stop acting like Self Defense should be a thing. I recently saw that a lot of people are saying that Self Defense shouldn't be there and that the criminal must only be the one who doesn't commit crimes. A good form of Self Defense here would have been, just not cuddling anyone you just met, or avoiding drinking maybe. I know George did nothing wrong, and Catie lied, but I find that a lot of victims of false allegations recently are given the opportunity for false allegations against them (unknowingly of course). My take is, that if a murderer is about to kill you, you can't expect that person to have a change of heart, and you need to fight for your life. Same way, putting yourself in the way of danger, is dangerous. Victims shouldn't be blamed, but everyone must be taught how to reduce the chances of them becoming victims in general. Trust is pointless, and it is shown clearly how Dream, supposedly a good friend of George, went against his own friend to save his career. I don't see the point in trusting anyone (my family included) and people can change and will not be the same good person they where. People will be quick to jump to conclusions, and if your story is not dramatic, then you will be pushed down. If instead of just trying to tell his side of the story, and if George had actually talked about how he was fooled into this shit and if he had actually accused her of going against him for personal vendetta or some shit, George could have gained sympathy. Being logical in a world filled with idiots in itself is illogical.

Often times, men don’t win in cases like this, especially when it comes to the aftermath of being accused, like losing friends, environments, scholarships or sponsorships, sometimes even jobs, no matter if it's the truth, or if it's just completely made-up. Real sexual assault victims get taken less seriously when things like this happen, simply because someone wants to make someone else's life harder. What a pathetic world we live in. Honestly, I do not care if one is an influencer or not, George has all the grounds to sue for defamation. Unfortunately people these days don’t even care about innocent until proven guilty because guilty until proven innocent is trending. Same thing happened with Kwite and Rex Orange County. Once you lie this big just for internet points, when you say the actual truth, people are less likely to believe you. Same goes for the story The boy who cried Wolf. Also I think part of the problem is he didn't clarify exactly what he was apologising for when he should have. I think he meant his first apology was an "I am sorry I played a part in making you feel uncomfortable" a simple apology for an accidental harm, like one would apologise for bumping into someone in a crowd or for making a well meaning joke or jab that hurt your friends feelings. These moments of accidental harm are ones we are taught to apologise for, and I appreciate the awareness of seeing that just because I and others saw it as harmless didn't mean I didn't cause harm. However many people nowadays don't like to apologise for accidents so when you don't clarify (or even when you do) they assume its an admission. The second apology I think was more along the lines of "I was not at all aware there was a possible power dynamic issue in potential relationships, sorry you and others might have been caught in this." I think he did clarify this one better but I think people are less aware of the danger of financial and reputational power imbalances in relationships and might not be as aware as he was about the severity of this issue. Frankly he dealt with is so maturely but lately it feels many people don't realise that a truly empathic person will want to apologise for accidents, for hurt they see even if they do not understand (emotions aren't logical) and to make a promise to be better.

I've been around people falsely accused for SA (around 3 or so ppl) and around the half mark of the video i realized something was wrong with her story. I mean to 1. to be able to remember everything in detail. I mean alcohol isnt some magical superdrug that makes you not be able to say "No". Alcohol is a substance which messes with your cognitive functions including thinking however not to the extent that you cannot voice your concerns unless borderline blackout. And if you were borderline blackout you hardly would remember anything. 2. She expands the story everytime she talks about it AND adds individuals into the entire conversation which when asked deny her claims. And 3. she numerous times show no sadness or atleast some form of trauma when speaking about it, she voices herself clearly, she voices herself loud, shes speaking as if shes defending someone else and not herself. To me all of this seems false

The main takeaway for me is how quick Sapnap and Dream appealed to the victim side instead of sticking with their own stories. Of course, it would be worse if they took George’s side if he actually did something, but he didn’t, and those two should be more than sure of that. I don’t understand how these friends would respond in such a way. There should be the option of standing by their friend (if they believe he did not do such a thing) and also not condemning the individual claiming to be hurt. They did not have to go bite George in the back like that. I am confused.

I know - it actually makes me mad that more people aren't talking about Sapnap just completely throwing George under the bus. I mean, he literally said Caiti was right and George was in the wrong. I called him out on Twitter so many times and it was so annoying not seeing more people call Sapnap for that. So annoying. Like literally SOOOO annoying

@@perryrush6563 exactly my point, how was that entirely on George when both of them were cuddling and they were drunk? If people want to make the claim that caiti couldn't consent because she was drunk, then what was George in the situation?? I seriously can't see how anyone would label this as sexual assault

I am just guessing here, but I'd imagine they all talked about it, and came to the conclusion that the best way forward for their brands, was to apologize and side with the "victim", bc regardless of what evidence you have to exonerate yourself, there will still be a huge portion of their audience who will support her. Plus, if you're a kind person, you don't feel okay with someone who is "hurt" bc of you, even if you KNOW you didn't do anything.

@@Bibhan-u8k they said support the victim. They didnt say they think shes the victim. Plus everyone can see that her statement was flawed, dream and sapnap trying to take georges side would make this thing a whole bigger of a deal than it has to be because of their reputation and history with drama. A victim never reads their story. They remember. Everything. Down to the last detail. Once she began reading on her cellphone, it was clear: She was lying. Poor man... I wish him psychological strenght to go through this
@mzmo_castagnoli18855 ай бұрын
It was also obvious Caiti was piling up her lies. When her eyes were looking sideways up to the left, it was clear she kept stitching more lies. Plus her audacity to screech higher was enough to tell she was just waiting for the time the pressure gets to George. He should have stood his ground even if his friends never helped out on his ordeal and he should have never apologized.

As a victim, a waist touch is not assault. IMO she's being dramatic at the end there and she sounds desperate to get people to side with her after realizing her claims are falling through.

George shouldn’t have apoogised. He should’ve known that twitter and youtube audiences would take his apology as an admission of guilt instead of what it really was, which is feeling sorry for something he didn’t realise at the time that (key word) COULD make someone else uncomfortable. If there’s something I’ve noticed is that apologies are instantly responded to with hatred and more controversy. He should’ve consulted it with someone else before to not make it seem like an apology.

Yeah tbh dude needs better friends. If he wasn't surrounded by a bunch of people siding with her and not giving him a shred of charitability maybe he wouldn't have felt obligated to apologise in his second response since he probably felt like the odd one out. But nevertheless, he shouldve stood firm with his first response and exposed all the misinformation without trying to pander to his crazy audience.
