With some people including me it’s that I have spent a lot of time in mental hospital and one of the regular problems in there is food related and I just eat whatever I can as long as it’s not going to kill me and I have had injuries that make veganism a very very difficult and I have been led to believe dangerous to my health and as one of the things that happens in the hospital is that you don’t always get to eat the food you’ve ordered it’s a question of survival because they will force feed you with a tube if they feel like it in fact some of the patients are so self centred they will make sure that they eat a vegetarians meal and try force you to eat meat trust me it’s a terrible place for people with a genuine illness it’s a nightmare because there are some very cruel people in those places both patients and staff

I chose to eat plant based because it was the ONLY THING that relieved my joint pain (I saw many doctors and got zero answers) and I quickly became ethically vegan after I stopped eating animal products. No more cheese to brainwash me into thinking about happy dairy cows. When people ask me why I'm vegan: if I say health, they get concerned about vitamin deficiencies. If I say ethical, they posture to argue about bugs I might squish by accident. If I say environmental, they don't believe me and talk about "fields of gmo soybeans"...which they don't believe are actually animal feed. So...I don't talk about it unless it comes up. I don't really care what people think of me, but debating the same things over and over again is tiresome and I have other shit to do life. I don't really want to pander to someone else's insecurities and I can tell the difference between someone who is interested in what I have to say and someone who wants to try and get me upset so they can feel better about themselves (which wouldn't work anyway because I don't sweat that kind of thing). Honestly, I think being vegan challenges other people's way of thinking and makes them feel funny that the normal thing they are doing might not be good. It puts them on defense. But, as Mark Twain put it, what's popular isn't always right and what's right isn't always popular. So... whatever I guess. I'm going to go eat some kale.

I was a vegetarian for years and went plant-based about eight months ago for health reasons. Some of my family mocks me every time I see them, but I’ve just learned to brush it off. They don’t need to understand why I do it. I’ve never felt better than I do now and I have more energy and I’ve been sick less. I never knew how much dairy was affecting my health until I gave it up.

People need to see the environmental impacts too. I can't believe more people don't bleat on about this more. You can kill animals all you want, but keep doing it like this and it's not sustainable. Veganism is the best way but ANY cut backs in meat, going vegetarian IS helpful. I get that Veganism is healthier, and those animals won't have a livable Earth to live on if we keep going like this. Factory farming is worse than the pollution caused by every single vehicle on the planet. It's ridiculous when people laugh, they don't get it but I don't hate them for it. I never understand that kind of arrogance so many have to dismiss anything different. OK, well it's for your benefit too not just the animals. Honestly, convincing older populations will be harder, but young people really need to do this, in SOME degree at least. Cut down, go veggie. Anything helps.

sigh! they will definitely get used to it and the mocking will most likely decrease over time (they'll probably get bored of mocking you especially when you just brush it off lol). Such a good thing that you feel so much better! :) jokes on them right? haha

Definitely! I don't let it bother me. The thing that gets me with the people that mock is that I don't go around mocking people for their choices. If someone inquires about my eating style, I just tell them about my experience and the positive results I've had. To each their own, right. Oh well, at least I feel good and nothing can change that! Love your channel, keep it up!

I've really struggled with that at times. It helps to remind myself that other people don't see what I see or know what I know. Remind yourself where you were at mentally before going vegan and try to understand why a people might be resistant, not ready for change or just haven't had their "lightbulb" moment yet. That helps me. I still get pissed off commercials and the meat section in the grocery store though...

I think you just have to somewhat realize that people don't mean to be malicious or cause harm.. humans are just a product of the society they are in and sometimes they can't help the beliefs they have. Overtime, you just have to accept that some people won't change and believe that the world is slowly getting better.

The thing I’ve noticed about being vegan is a struggle I know other vegans struggle with. Suddenly everyone is a nutrition expert and telling me everything I’m supposedly deficient in. Especially as an athlete, people were saying it would hinder my ability to be a good athlete. After a while I’ve grown tired of arguing so I just show them my numbers on cronometer and I’m like “Still healthy, still not dying, fuck off now.”😂

I went vegan primarily for the health benefits, then for animal rights. A former roommate of mine grew up on a farm. So, naturally, her eating lifestyle consisted of ALL the dairy and meat. And because of her upbringing, she honestly believed the only reason we as humans have muscle is through the meat protein we consumed (I consumed meat before I went vegan 5 years ago). We had many protein-based arguments and milk/calcium arguments. It was hard because I didn't always have the best answers at the time. THAT was a tricky apartment to live in, with our opposite diets clashing. But it did make me more stubborn to stick to it, and I'm so glad I did!

Leah Montesinos firstly this is not a criticism of you or your flatmate really but I just don't understand why people harass others about their food ! They are not buying it and you are not telling them to cook for you and they are not forced to eat it so what's the problem ? I understand people being concerned about you losing out on nutrients etc (people have been taught all their lives we need milk and eggs and meat to be healthy) but why the anger ? I have a metabolic disorder that limits my protein to 6g a day (ironically the equivalent of 1 medium egg 😊) which I have to spread out through the day, so I cannot eat eggs, dairy, meat, fish, nuts, legumes, beans, soy, seitan and only very small amounts of grains (20g of oats is roughly 2g of protein and 5 - 6 red kidney beans is 1g) If I go over that amount a day it causes brain damage (no joke, it's called PKU, Google it) and people get angry at me too, saying it's a fad or something. I don't understand why what someone eats affects others so badly ! Must have a hard place to live xx

This is SUPER relatable. The biggest issue for me was definitely the social aspect, & being in a relationship with an omnivore. He definitely took it the hardest & was so angry at me for changing our routines & our life without “asking him first”. He used to ask me everyday if the phase was over. Now that he sees this is for life he is encouraging & helps me look for vegan junk everywhere lol. He still eats meat but has completely stopped dairy (which it’s usually the other way around) I had friends tell me that I fell for the “vegan propaganda” & that they would never make the switch. I’ve had my in laws tell me they refuse to veganize any recipes for gatherings or holidays. It was super difficult at the beginning & I was definitely angry and unpleasant. Now I’m much nicer however still passionate about animal rights. Most of my family is now vegan so yay 😁

I went vegan at once, last year and I live in Saudi Arabia, here they eat meat on lunch and dinner and sometimes breakfast 😷 for me I'm weirdo so I didn't had any problems with being different all the time because I used to be myself, no matter what others think of me, now after a year, my sister planning to go vegan in 2018 and my little brother wanted to go vegan but my mom didn't let him and my father after he tasted my vegan meals he said he's thinking about going vegan too 😁 a lot of my friends see it as the right decision and they wish they were as brave as me , and yes it makes me lose a lot of weight , my skin is better than before, digesting is better, I used to have a lower belly but now I don't! Also I sleep much better than before and as u said I wake up full of energy , also I can focus better now, and the most important thing is I feel the peace and the love, my relationship with animals is amazing there's kind of connection it's unbelievable, also now I just don't like the taste of too much sugar or salt because it's feels like it's taste stronger than before i go vegan, it's absolutely the right decision to go vegan, for me it wasn't hard at all !

Also I am a relatively new vegan (9 months) so I still feel the anger/frustration of being aware of all the horrors happening to animals! It has kept me up at night sometimes and I hope I can chill out sooooon

I went vegan almost 4 weeks ago, what a positive change! One of the best things I have ever done! My acne went away, my energy level is definitely higher, i dont have "bad food" cravings except tator tots, my sleep has improved, I feel so much more positive and I know the positive effects go well beyond just myself. The negative reactions I got from people who asked why I went vegan surprised me. I went vegan for ethical and environmental reasons and when others ask what exactly I mean by the ethical reasons and I tell about the mistreatment of animals, I get ripped up and down about. I'm not going on some rant, I just attempt to briefly explain myself. Days when this happens I end up having a few shots of vodka at night just to calm down. Most non vegans don't want to listen. Your just automatically a crazy person that believes everything they see or read on the internet and they want to see you fail at veganism. People are so ignorant, naive and stubborn. Makes me hate humanity (well, lack of humanity). This is the only difficult part I have found with being vegan.

Great video! I have been vegan over 10 yrs. I started gradually as well, not liking meat anymore. Then I joined a vegetarian support group and heard about the animal part of it and became more passionate. I ran my own vegetarian potluck group for years and actually did a national meat out day serving veggie burgers at a hospital cafeteria. My daughter had a lot of ear infections and I did research. That's when I found dairy was an issue. So from then on I gave up all dairy products and eggs as well. I noticed my acne started clearing up. I was a junk food vegan for a while, but have been a whole food plant based vegan for quite a while now.

I'm not yet vegan or vegetarian, but I'm trying to change my diet after I watched the movie "Cowspiracy" and "What the Health". Your words really hit me that I want to continue being a vegan. I'm Japanese and I live in my home in Japan. Being vegan in Japan is so tough especially I live in the countryside and it's scary and nervous to speak out that I wanna be a vegan to others (include my family). But you made me so encouraging and realized I'm not the only one who feels that way. Thank you for sharing your words!! Love from Japan

What I tell Texans (where I live) about the ethical side of veganism is that eating animal products is no longer necessary. At this point it's unnecessary suffering. I think that hits more than 'eating animals is cruel'. At the end of the day no person in their right mind enjoys watching an animal suffer. We here know it's cruel I just don't think people realize is that cruelty is no needed anymore. Like at all. We need to progress as people to be kinder to others (animals included), to our earth, and to ourselves.

Wow! What a great video! I felt like you were talking directly to me because you addressed so many of the issues I’ve struggled with as a vegan. As you said, one of the biggest negatives is that frustration so many of us feel about humanity and trying to make sense of why it’s so hard for people to understand that the suffering and murder of sentient beings is needless and immoral. As vegans, this is something that is so clear to us. Keep the awesome videos coming!

UGHH. So sorry about that. My "incident" was having a phone conversation with a friend I hadn't seen in a while. And they were like, "Oh I can never be vegan because I'm a ....foodie." "The Dalai lama isn't vegan." "I used to work at a Brazilian bbq buffet and they would just get meat and no sides, I'm not on that level but my girlfriend would kill me if I didn't eat meat." "I think I can do it but I just don't want to, like what would my friends say." I was like GIRLLL I need to cleanse my SOUL after this convo like don't call a vegan to give them every excuse as to why you can't be vegan. #IRKED lol. And just the reference to why you can't do it because of the fact that you think it's food and not that it's an animal is too insulting. My soul can't bare it. Much love. 💛🙃

I went vegan for ethical reason and I resonate all the points you mentioned, plus I got also very sensitive smell, get sick by smell of meat and fish. I don't see meat as food any longer, as it appeals me suffering of lives, feels like witnessing of "genocide". I feel my body and soul so light as a feather, feel like flying. I feel no longer depressed, I am happier than ever before. Went vegan revealed my purpose of life; work for the world go vegan to make the Earth a better place for ALL living creatures! Don’t give up because you can’t be perfect. Even if you eat something with fish broth you are still doing more good than if you gave up and ate full omni. This often happens. People think, “I can’t be vegan, so forget it.” Do as much as you can and don’t give up if you make occasional exceptions. The pressure to be perfect makes many people do nothing.

It is amazing to me how threatened meat eaters are by vegans. It’s like they know eating meat is wrong and they don’t want to have to think about it. I have been a vegetarian since I turned 18 40 years ago and am now. Vegan. So I have had my fill of crap from in laws to parents to strangers even. When people say I can’t believe you don’t eat meat, I just say I always found it disgusting and when I didn’t have to eat it anymore I just didn’t. Or I say I love animals so I don’t eat them.

I've been vegan for only 3 weeks and I'm in that angry stage you talked about. I feel so shit about the state of the world and the way we treat animals. And I feel like humans are so selfish as so many won't change their ways because 'they like meat' or whatever. I've been really struggling with it, and getting very down about it all the past few weeks, especially as almost all my friends and family (including my partner) are meat eaters. I'm glad it's not just me that feels this way. I just hope the feelings decrease because I really can't stand it at the moment! The only comfort I have is that I'm doing my bit and doing my best to reduce the suffering of animals and to improve our planet just a tiny bit.

I try to gradually reduce the amount of meat that I eat because of ethical reasons, and I often cook with vegetables and stuff. But there are two points which are really making it hard for me. The first and maybe the biggest one is the socially akwardness around people, especially when friends and family cannot understand how you could meat and dairy for over twenty years and then decide to drop it. Like I would be a hypocrite or something for changing my perspective and outlook on life and so on because I actually learned something about life. And the other is that it's sometimes so damn hard to say no to the bacon cheese burger and pizza that I loved to eat. And thank you for taking your time and filming your life and talking about your lifestyle! I really enjoy your videos as they help me with by baby steps towards going plant based. Have an amazing day.

Sarah Gahler people don't like to change, when they see you change they get confronted with their own insecurities. It's not about you. People can change & do, if they want to. But if they don't it's a pretty human reaction to try to put others down who are trying to change. Second, that bacon & hamburger was once a loving animal that wanted to live. It didn't want to die. It wanted to breathe & be happy & socialize. Maybe look at it that way & the food will seem not so tantalizing? ♥️

I'm at the place where I've stopped eating meat (about 2 years running) but have not yet given up Dairy. Or Fish. Really loved listening to your journey, you are totally my new hero. Agreed that the social awkwardness is hard. I've found it comes from a place of fear - in that meat eaters know (ethically) that what they are doing is wrong, but can't handle dealing with it. It's just so nice to come across someone who really gets it and who is knowledgable about how to get a balanced diet (protein) with entirely plant based ingredients. I'm a (happily) married man lol but your channel warms my heart. Thank you.

I chose Vegan due to health. I started on January 19th of this year and I did do it overnite. I made the choice after watching "What The Health" & also because my Drs have been on me for years about my blood pressure. My kids and I have noticed dramatic changes for the better and we are super excited about it. Within 1 month I went from 158 lbs to 137 lbs and my blood pressure is back to normal. I tried other diets and although over months I would lose 10 lbs, my blood pressure NEVER stablized. My family and I also have intestinal issues but not since we have changed to Vegan. I definitely have a more open mind about life and the people around me. You are so correct in saying other people are so negative when you speak the word "vegan." The most hypocritical people are those that attend my church... who knew? I joined your channel recently and enjoy all your videos and have tried lots of your recipes. Thank you!

I gave up animal products for my own health and well being and I didn’t consider the ethical aspect at all. I've lost like more than at least 1kg for 2 weeks and I was even very thin at the time because I had been watching my figure. It's surprizing because after going vegan cold turkey, all I cared about was how I can eat properly and getting satiated, so I ate A LOT and still lost weight. crazy! (love it) and I was never interested in misterious spices (cause I'm from Korea) and didn't know about tahini and hummus, but this broadened my world of food.. As a fitness enthusiast and passionate musician, I noticed a big turnaround when I went vegan almost 7 months ago. Never exhausted and drained after a hard workout (I'm a morning/afternoon gym sesh guy), and the soreness and recoveries from them is more motivational rather than taking the ball and goin home, those muscles only get stronger as time progresses and you don't greatly lose your progress if you take time off. Energy⚡ is always top notch, even in early mornings I work or perform on stage late nights.

I talk to extended family and let them know our options and a few are willing to try certain things. Thanks again Rose. Bless you

OMG WITH EVERY SINGLE WORD THAT YOU SPEAK I AGREE! Especially when you talk about the 'bad stuff' with veganism, all those things happened to me too! I have a lot more peace in my mind then when I started to become vegan (for ethical reasons). Everything that is going on with the animals is horrible. And that everyone that I know is contributing to it can often still upset me to tears. But i'm not angry anymore, I can't because it was breaking me down. It felt like was holding the weight of the world on my shoulders. I just hope that the world is changing for the better and i'm gonna stay vegan for ever. Now i'm just showing people how fun and easy being vegan is. That's all I can do :) I'm still wanna be active about it tho. The animals need us! I won't stop talking about it. But i'm not gonna be angry all the time. Being like that doesn't make people go vegan and it doesn't make my life any better. Thank you for youre words, it made me reflect on my vegan journey.

I'm newly vegan, started my journey on 12/29/17 and its like I'm slowly adjusting, I'm loving getting to cook different dishes but I'm finding it a kinda hard to shop because certain stores only sell certain items. Support-wise my mom is semi-ok with my decision to go plant-based but she's also watching me closely because I'm currently in recovery from an eating disorder, she thinks that my reasoning for going vegan is so I can lose weight. And in all honesty that's not the case, I was tired of eating like a lot of processed food & fried foods, just wanted to get healthy and I'm also a huge animal lover. :) love your channel Rose 💙💙

This is SO helpful, I'm taking the gradual route with going vegan and the hardest part is eating with other people. Thank you for your words!!

Friends jokingly offered to have my child over for dinner so she could have meat. I thought about replying, "Want to offer her cigarettes? They're carcinogens too" but I wouldn't have been joking.

100% agree with social aspect, that's what I've most struggled with and still do even after being vegan for almost 3 months! It does get awkward with people who don't understand but I just feel so good knowing I'm doing the right thing :) awesome video, very well said!

I’ve been vegan for a month now and you have really helped me. I’ve used some of your recipes like the tofu scramble. I don’t get too much support for being vegan too and I didn’t expect it either. For people to judge me so much but oh well!

So your comment about taste buds changing is so true!! I to had a similar thing happen. I was ata sushi place and ordered a veggie roll , i took one bite and started gagging like spit it out like a kid eating broccoli lol! I tore it apart cuz i swore it had fish in it. Nope no fish. The chef claimed itwas the seaweed! But no he had rolled it on the same surface as he rolled all his sushi on. Just that little bit of fish taste had me gagging like a child lol.

Nicole Mansfield, Same thing happened to me. Fish juice all over my vegan sushi. Yuck! I spit it out in a napkin & lost my appetite. I almost threw up.

just found your channel and i love it! also i experienced a lot of the changes you talked about like waking up feeling refreshed, temporarily and unintentionally ditching coffee when first transitioning to veganism, the change in my taste buds, and finding out how many new foods there are that i didn't know existed! and i feel the same way that if i wasn't vegan and people brought in food to work or something i would ALWAYS have some

I don't think I'm ever going to give up fish but I try to only eat line caught wild (expensive!!!) and small farm grass fed cattle. I need to consume a lot of protein for my sport, but thanks to you I get a lot more of it from plant sources.
