How good are Vampires and Vampire Lords in Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Horn of the Abyss expansion (Homm3 HotA)? Let's find out!

The unit tested will face six trials:
- Castle Attack
- Battle vs. A Horde
- Battle vs. Elite
- Battle vs. Missile Units
- Battle vs. Army
- Castle Defense
They will score points from these, as well as from abilities in campaign map, construction chain costs and from the army costs. The army is determined by 20 weeks of growth. The tested units will be controlled by human, and tactics can be used.

Thank You! Yea, they clearly are all or nothing unit. While doing this vid, I found the most critical factor being the first initial blows so that they can get that life stealing going on properly :)

Fully agreed on that. And VLs seem to be a king of on/off unit. Either they win heroicly or lose badly :) Thanks for the comment.

You should do the elite fight again and make 6 stacks of vampire lords. Put the main stack in corner so it only gets attacked by 2 dragons and faries. Also the vs army fight could have gone much better by standing in a corner!

Thanks for the comment. Yea, I think I could get a bit more points in some of the earlier vids. Imo with the VLs the thing is if they can get enough life drain. They seem to be kind of either or unit :)

Could be a bit better against army, but I guess they could cast different spells aswell ;) well done !

@@qualityoldhomm-rd3yu Behemoth getting stone skin or shield, depending on situation, becomes a dangerous unit with much more survi, and it still needs to be eliminated bearly asap... that's the chance for shooters, wolves and goblins to inflict critical dmg ;) I love the power of Stronghold, underestimated a bit though ;)

I think the same. Split them for 3 extra stacks and begin battle in corner

@@adrianszwed651 Did some tests, and your suggestions helped a lot. Test 1) Able to take down 3 Rust dragons Test 2) Able to take down 1 Azure and 1 Rust Dragon Test 3) Able to take down 1 Azure dragon (focus on it solely, as killing 2 would have given an extra point) While being very beneficial strat, it would not guarantee and extra point. But really worth a shot :)

It is possible to see the movement range by pressing SHIFT while hovering mouse. No need to count the cells!

@@wangtony9121 Ah, there were two mistakes there. Thanks for the heads up. I tested the battle with similar moves but blocking those missile units. However, the damage was too much for the VLs (wolf riders or Ogre Mages dealt too much dmg), so that the score would not become higher :)

Thanks for the question. It is difficult on purpose so that we can get some differentiation between the top tier units. (Similarly vs. Horde is really easy so we can get differentiation between the weakest units). It is about 10 weeks growth but the enemy hero has some primary and secondary skills and spells as well to increase difficulty :)@@SuperFerz

I love the vid. However I think you could have played some of those fights a little smarter. For example vs dragons I believe a win is possible if you get yourself stick in one of the corners. That way only 2 dragons can attack you instead of 3.

Thank You and thanks for the advice. Agreed on that. Inspired by your comment I tested the VL battle again with corner position. I was able to get 1 additional kill but unfortunately that was not quite enough to get an extra point :)

Fully agreed on that one. It will be nice to see what units benefit most from the upgrades after the units have been tested. Thanks for the comment. :)

@@qualityoldhomm-rd3yu Best upgrades in the game are: Giants -> Titans, Red dragons -> Black dragons, Vampire -> Vampire lord, Gorgon -> Mighty gorgon. All of them radically change or improve the way you play with their respective factions. Castle, Rampart, Inferno, Stronghold and conflux doesn't have any upgrades that radically changes their powerlevel as much as these others do. Well these are other great upgrades: Angel -> Archangel is pretty good for Castle but angels are already very powerful. Elves -> grand elves & Green dragons -> gold dragons are pretty potent upgrades too but not radical I'd say. Pit fiend -> pit lord is pretty big if you gonna demon farm. Behemoth -> Ancient behemoth does make them quite alot more dangerous. Firebird -> Phoenix is mostly great due to the speed increase.

@@bosspoke Thanks for the comment. I agree with you. Though I would say that Angel upgrade increases the army survivability quite significantly, thus imo making it to belong among the best upgrades :)

@@qualityoldhomm-rd3yu It's why I mentioned it :) I just think giant to titan, & red dragon to black dragon is more important because giants suck but titans are really good. And red dragons don't suck but are worse than angels while black dragons are almost on par with Archangels (better against powerful spellcasters since Archangels can be nuked by implosion, and Black dragons cannot).
