The way I’d buff Aurorus would actually be to make it slower. Drop it’s speed from 58->18 & put those 20 points into SpAtk & SpDef. This would let it underspeed Torkoal, making it the slowest weather setter in the game. For VGC, this would be huge & make Hail the “anti-weather”; Hail still has the least synergy of all weathers, so using it to turn off Sun/Rain/Sand would be it’s new role. Similarly to Torkoal, it could sweep under TR w/ Blizzard as well. For context, this is all from the lens of Doubles/VGC. Would be nice to see this excellent design see more play!
@iantaakalla81802 жыл бұрын
And furthermore, Hail benefits no one, not even Ice types because to run an Ice type is already insanely risky unless it’s the top ten (Calyrex-Ice Rider, Mamoswine, Weavile, Froslass, Alolan Ninetales, Galarian Darmanitan, Jynx in earlier generations, Kyurem only in Gen 8, sometimes Kyurem-White, Vanilluxe since it got Snow Warning) and there are fewer Ice types than any other type. Hail would absolutely function best as a punishing weather.

Aurorus and Armaldo are perfect example of pokemon with bad typing that could at least be mitigated if rock resisted itself making them stealth rock neutral. @mectainea55752 жыл бұрын
if anything rock should of been immune to stealth rocks to begin with and absorb it outright as a form of removal like toxic spikes with poison types. Literally every other hazard in existence has at least a fair share of Pokémon that are passively immune due to typing or abilities. its kind of stupid that stealth rocks can basically hit everything universally with no drawbacks as it lasts basically forever unless the opponent happens to have one of the three hyper specific moves of removing it.
@grassfish012 жыл бұрын
Hail shouldn’t receive any more buffs. We already got the tools that made it viable back in Gen 7 (Aurora Veil to enable setup sweepers like SD Sandslash-A, and Slush Rush to fix the speed issue of a select few Ices) and new abusers in Gen 8 (the Arcto fossils). Considering that even something as otherwise slow as Arctozolt is viable in OU with Aurora Veil from Ninetails-A (not to mention Arctovish, Sandslash-A, and Beartic seeing viability in the lower tiers despite their low usage rates) any other buff to Hail might make it OP.

I feel like aurora has just good enough speed that not even trickroom would work that well. It'll fail to outspeed a lot of tanks and walls, a lot of which are steel. Trickroom would just change its weakness from fast offensive pokemon to slow defensive ones.

The Kalos Fossils are some of my favorite Pokemon. I'm just glad Aurorus actually has useful niches in competitive and it's bad defensive typing and awkward stat distribution didn't just leave it as another forgotten untierd favorite. I hope we hear a History of Tyrantrumm soon here.
@gamermanzeake2 жыл бұрын
I was not at all expecting this from Aurorus! I figured, bad typing, bad rock special movepool, bad stats and left it at that... Hilariously this is one of those Pokémon that kind of looks at the notion of Power Creep and spits on it. Yes she's never been an OU monster, but most Ice Types are utterly glossed over. Sometimes ability and utility are more important than stats and typing.

Hi! Gen 8 ZU(aka untiered) player here. Aurorus had been zu for quite while, but snow warning as a whole was not used in the tier, till people realised the potential of vanilla. It was a good mon, but not overbearing, because of the broken centiskorch. Once that got banned however, vanilla absolutely took over, and after a while ,(1 month ago approx), it got banned from ZU. Aurorus turned out to be the second best one, initially with a sr set, then going full agro with power herb meteor beam. It was one of the most threatening mons in the tier, reliably p much only checked by Throh. But it wasn't banned until Alolaslash moved up to nu by usage, since Alolaslash was a major factor in aurorus' success. Its spdef set didn't check it too reliably, but it did make it use the meteor beam, switch, then try to wear it down. So yeah as of now, aurorus is BANNED from zu or untiered. Have a good day, and great vid fsg!

@iantaakalla81802 жыл бұрын
To be fair, Aurorus isn’t good. Aurorus is only good at helping other good Pokémon that are setup sweepers even better. But as that is good enough, Aurorus is used. It also seems to have a nice varied special movepool, but when do people use Aurorus for that outside of PU or NU? And though it has that movepool, how’s it going to take advantage of that since its speed is 58? And even given that Trick Room is relevant in Sword/Shield, who’d want to put in the effort to make Aurorus good save KZbinrs where that is their gimmick? And even then, if you watch their videos, Aurorus does not put in the work. It sucks outside of being the modern suicide lead.
@ItsASleepySheepy2 жыл бұрын
Amaura and Aurorus are some of my favorite Gen 6 pokemon, and even though it was in the lower tiers, I'm glad Aurorus was able to be successful. I'd love to see it get some stat buffs - even just minor ones like bringing all it's stats up to an even 125/80/75/100/95/60 - as well as access to Power Gem and Aurora Veil on it's own. Any other buffs necessary to put it in OU would probably have to be to either the Rock or Ice types themselves, or potentially to Hail.

Since it received a decent amount of attention towards the end, How Good was Arctozolt? I hear that it's been one of the most interesting Pokémon to move around tiers in a single generation.
@iantaakalla81802 жыл бұрын
Arctozolt was ignored in the beginning because Dracovish existed and then Dracozolt made it so that neither Arcto- fossil was worth trying, but it turns out that if there’s hail, Arctozolt can do so much with Bolt Beak to even OU Pokémon. This was proven by the NU hail ban and then the RU/UU Arctozolt bans later. Since Alolan Ninetales is always OU, Arctozolt has a place in OU always as that strange hail-dependent sweeper.

Aurorus is definitely one of my top 5 favorite Pokemon designs because of its impressively accurate interpretation of Amargasaurus. the problem is, Aggron has already proven (though steelix has high Def) that no matter how much defense and Spe Def you have, you will get destroyed either through getting outsped, overpowered, or getting "locked out" of doing your moves.
