Peers of Einstein and Tesla said the same things about them as well. Look, what they did during their adult years. Now, the thing about Einstein, Tesla, and especially Elon is that school to them was probably a complete bore and nuisance to them, meaning school was more than likely not challenging enough for them. Therefore, they would do just enough to get by in their courses and pass them. Doing well in school doesn't always mean that you'll be successful in life or be a genius. There are a cubic shit load of well known people who were/are successful in life or were/are considered geniuses, that didn't do particularly well in school.

I don't think any teenager or kid determines what is boring or not by the challenge. Simply he was only into certain books, video games, and making games because just like anyone else school teaches so much stuff in a super boring setting about things children don't care about.

I swear that my son is not the brightest cookie out there in school, but his strengths are computer and making computer games, as well he loves space and science, and believe or not he as well performs well on math, but everything else is below average, he doesn't seem interested on leaning things that to him are boring. My son is autistic and have many gifts , from photographic memory and as well can draw and do sculptures out of clay and he is good at it. And if something is not coming to plan he will destroy whatever he is doing and start again until it is perfect. Some times I wonder if one day my son will be part of the world that will leave his imprint about creating something important or beneficial to people. I pray to God to guide him in the right path to do right in the world.
