Like the middleweight Rich Franklin and LIGHTWEIGHT BJ Penn? The dude fought tomato cans, and then won a title in arguably the shallowest decision in the UFC against an undersized champion. Realistically with his frame Evans should’ve been down at Welterweight, or be a small middleweight

@@sECUREij Bruh, Rich Franklin was a great fighter for his time and BJ competed in open weight bouts all the time. Most fighter fight "cans" for like 10+ fights before signing with a good organization, Lyoto was fighting solid competition super early in his career. Also how you gonna say that Rashad is undersized when Lyoto is just a couple inches taller and is less muscular.

@@sECUREij Well Machida himself competed at MW later in his career, and he wasn't a big LHW either, he came in to some bouts at around 200lbs, he just fought at a time when LHW was the big division.

Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida thank you for the memories! I Loved watching your strategic, technical style & accuracy with sheer fascination. I admire your sportsmanship and peaceful demeanor. Thank you for being a favorite of mine in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts. Oddly enough only today did I realize your Father is from Japan. Those Japanese warm my Heart neatly. Hopefully one day it will all make sense. I enjoyed eating pizza with your brother Chinzo and his wife & kids in San Clemente CA. His son's name in English sounds a lot like Hero. Peaceful warrior for God here, the Dalai Lama is my hero in my dreams. With Love & admiration to you & your Family. 🙏🏽 ❤️Kyle

Machida was ROBBED by Rampage. I'm biased but I say if you put these guys in their prime and weigh them on that scale then Machida has gotta be high on the all time list

Long time coming and not an ounce of disappointment, awesome vid. He kinda represented the "style vs style" element of mma that had been missing since the first few way back in the day. It's essential to be be well rounded but it all kind of feels generic after a minute and he changed that for at least a short time.

I miss him fighting in UFC. What a legendary fighter. Although he is a BJJ black belt, he had such an amazing performance using karate skills, that was important because brazilians mma fighter are well know to BJJ and Muay Thay like wanderlei Silva. I remember until Shogun, no one could even touch lyoto in the cage. That was insane.

He was a very good fighter and I enjoyed watching him fight , especially how he was very evasive and would move in out of range leaving his opponents so frustrated they would be like " You gonna fight or what ? " Then - Boom ! He would let them have it. He was the epitome of being able to hit his opponent without being hit - the perfect fighter. I don't know what happened, but his victory was only for a short time. He did prove that a traditional martial art like Karate can work and is not to be underestimated. And he showed what is possible. Because the truth is there are no limits, it all depends on the fighter and what he is capable of. Just like Chuck Liddell. He was winning so many fights and knocking everyone out ( also he had a Kempo background ) but unfortunately one day his luck changed and he was just never the same. I think more then anything it has to be a mental thing , maybe they just got burned out and lost their motivation for whatever reason, because they definitely had the edge in skills. It happens. Because you have to be hungry in order to keep on winning.

Thank you Kiiyon for these uploads. I stopped following MMA for the most part in the late 90's, although I would watch an occasion fight like Holm vs Rousey, but thanks to you I can see previews of these fighter's careers. I also like that you added the opponent's record and their current win/loss streak coming into each fight. Great job! Keep up the great work!

Lyoto is one of my top 2 favorite MMA fighters of all time. Was such a joy watching him systematically pick apart opponents with his karate, which is so rare in MMA, as most strikers in MMA come from Boxing or Muay Thai backgrounds. Wins over some truly big names like BJ Penn, Mauricio Rua, Rashad Evans, Randy Couture, Tito Ortiz, Chael Sonnen, Ryan Bader, Dan Henderson, Gegard Mousasi, Vitor Belfort, and Rich Franklin. I wish he had retired sooner though, he has really damaged his record by fighting past his prime. Should have retired after that Chael Sonnen win when he was 26-8, instead he has now lost 4 in a row and still won't retire.
