For me he was perfect NBA player and I love players like him who will never say that they are the best players ever, I would never like Lebron more than him because he humiliates the players and says he is the best player of all time, but he is not and he will never be the GOAT. Let it be known, Duncan had almost no help this year. Robinson was on his last leg, Parker was 20 years old and was benched for Speedy Claxton on more than one occasion, Ginobili was a rookie who had not proven he could start over a volatile Stephen Jackson. This video described the Finals series as anticlimactic and it was... in hindsight. But at the time analysts weren't so sure. As just an example, Bill Simmons predicted the Nets would beat the Spurs, citing Jason Kidd's more talented supporting cast. In Simmons' eyes, Duncan's best option was... Malik Rose.

For you youngsters, the pace was a lot slower back then, and the Spurs being the slowest of the teams back then too, so you have to adjust for inflation, and convert to "Points Per 75 Possessions", or per 100 possessions etc, to get an idea what the scoring numbers actually mean in comparison to today's stars. Rebounding however is less effected, and less shots coming from the outside meant shorter bounces off the rim, and more opportunities for bigs to board, mostly cancelling out the effect of less possessions.

My only regret about Duncan's pro career was that Pop should have used the Duncan/Manu pick and roll a lot sooner, around 2007. It took D'Antoni popularizing it before Pop went that direction. No doubt in my mind that would have been the best PnR combo of all time, given that both of them were elite passers, as well as scorers from all three levels. Definitely saw glimpses in the 2013/4 seasons, even though it was past Timmy's prime.

Timmy was a beast, it's just a shame that so many people don't want to give him any credit for whatever reason. Sure he eventually had some really good teammates and also played for who is now the winningest coach in NBA history (congrats Pop!), but those good teammates weren't always there and/or weren't always good and I'm sure that even Pop improved as a coach as years went by. Timmy did what he needed to do for the team's success, which at times meant not having to do as much as he could because he didn't need to. Oh and can I just say that your user name reminds me of something from a Redman song lol.

@@Max-ui7yf Pop is a great coach, but he is who he is now because he had Timmy for 2 decades. No other superstar would have accepted the hardass coaching Pop provided from a guy who hadn't achieved anything previously. Hell Kawhi couldn't handle it even with Pop being established. Everyone ever associated with the Spurs from the late 90's on will tell you Timmy was the culture there.

@@hardybryan Can't disagree with you on that. I mean when your star player and team leader is leading by example like that, then it definitely sets the tone for the rest of the team. I think most other star players would have forced Pop to change his style, or even had him fired, because they wouldn't tolerate that in your face style.

I knew that the Spurs were going to win the whole time. I didn't bother to watch the playoffs. You're not going to beat the Spurs consistently. They'll always come back with your number. They won damn near every game in the season against the Lakers and I always knew that Greg Pop was a better coach than Phil. 2003 was a no surprise year. I considered Duncan better than Shaq because he was a better post scorer and free throw shooter.

the east was better post 2003...2004 pacers pistons and nets were all good teams who could legit defeat easily now the bottom teams out west like the nuggets rockets and grizzlies who all somehow made the playoffs in a usually stacked west and those east teams it felt like could finally compete if they were in the west finally vs lesser but still good west teams like the mavs and kings that year who got worse from the year before and a great west team that used to be more in the middle in the unproven t wolves..sure the spurs still looked a little better than the east competition but not by much that year and la looked very vulnerable and people said they would lose to the pacers t wolves and spurs all season...1999-2003 the east sucked....for 5 years....it felt like 1 team could be a top 6 seed out west playing that competition nightly and usually everyone else was not close and maybe if lucky make a 5th seed out west...hell the heat in 2004 could of been a top 6 seed out west and legit go 7 games with a past great team like the mavs despite a loaded roster it felt like and beat the bottom west teams too...that heat team had no bench

As good as duncan was, the lakers beat themselves and that’s a fact. Shaq got fat and kobe became resentful and didn’t set him up like he did in the threepeat. Duncan was all time great but they would have never beat them if shaq and kobe were in sync and even so they almost win if horrys shot goes in game 5
@mikeanaya7061
@mikeanaya7061 3 жыл бұрын
The Lakers had absolutely nobody to guard Duncan. Horry wasn’t the man to put on Duncan and bully him up. This is why the Lakers giving away Elden Campbell hurt them in the long run. Campbell could have matched his size and played him physical. Even had the Lakers traded Campbell for anything better than JR Reid I believe the Lakers could have won that series.

This guy......mighta had a big impact on he entire series......maybe. And Dirk never gets hurt, he's played so many games consistently. In essence , the Spurs may have still won that series, but it wouldn't have been easy.

Bottom line is Kobe owned Duncan in the playoffs, Kobe lead the Lakers in scoring all 4 times the Lakers beat the Spurs in the playoffs. Fact! Kobe and Duncan meet in the playoffs Kobe ends Duncans season 4 out of 6 times, FACTS!
