Looking down a girl for being a cheerleader was Courtney's “not like other girls”︎︎︎︎︎︎ moment. The she (wrongfully) attributed Gwen's success to the men in her life explains why she slept with them, she needed a boost for her lacking career and only being recognizable through her own dead ex. Typical pick me at the end of the day and Gwen proved her wrong.

I didn’t mind her saying gwen was a cheerleader and she wasn’t. She could’ve meant it as shes a rebel rocker chick and Gwen is more polished/popular. But then she kept digging so clearly she was being hateful. Also He’s Kurt Cobain not Courtney’s dead ex 😐

The fact that people still look down on Cheerleaders when they cheer for basketball and football season, practice eight hours a day, pull difficult and dangerous stunts, tumbling, and make it all look easy. It's also the sport where girls statistically get the most injuries, so I find it a bit misogynistic that people (especially those like Courtney) still look down on cheerleading even though it's changed a lot since its inception. Gwen is like a cheerleader; hardworking, bubbly, and creative, just like the song! Courtney Love tried to insult her, but accidentally gave her a compliment. I'm just glad we got this iconic song out of it!
@molly863

It’s so dumb. The majority of the cheerleaders at my school were also involved in school clubs that required high grades to join. Unless the coaches encourage poor ethics towards school, I think a lot of the time student athletes are very good students who contribute a lot to their schools. It’s just an easy to reach for stereotype to say the jocks and cheerleaders are the worthless pretty people or just bullies or whatever. All people are all kinds of things, and being a cheerleader doesn’t take away someone’s value and shouldn’t be an insult.

Gwen Stefani is the Queen of the Mid 2000s along with Fergie and Nelly Furtado, as well as the most relevant of the 3 since the 90s, and without mentioning that she’s a Fashion Icon who looks even younger now in her 50s. I don’t think these young people even understand what she was saying. Gwen is the girl who subscribes to the system and tries to thrive in it, and she is. Courtney is the girl who cuts class, smokes cigarettes out back, and probably gets expelled. I.e., she is more transgressive, more anti-social in behaviour. Only if Gwen clings to an idea of herself as NOT the pretty, popular figure would that in any way bother her. And look what she did anyways: worked with Pharrell, went with the prevailing pop sounds of that time, made a great record… now she is a judge on a major network prime time talent show. She is mainstream. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I kind of put Courtney Love, Grimes, and Azealia Banks in the same group of influential women who are only remembered for their antics. People try and bring up people like Kanye, but Kanye is still known for other things. It feels like you have to be into grunge, music production, early 2010s pop culture, or incredibly queer to recognize Courtney, Grimes, and Azealia for their impacts on the music industry. You'll be hard pressed to find a queer DJ set list without 212, Anna Wintour or Count Contessa on it. You can't bring up 2010s music without mentioning visions and more specifically oblivion. And you definitely can't talk about grunge without talking about live through this. It's sad to see how these three are reduced to their controversy's, especially when you consider Grimes is no where near as problematic as Azealia or Courtney. Or even some of the pop it girlies. She's just weird as hell.

I think Courtney's initial comment wasn't that out of line tbh... people would compare the two a lot but it doesn't really make a lot of sense since, even when she was in a band, Gwen has always leaned more into pop whereas Courtney has always made music that's a lot more gritty and less mainstream so I'm sure that was frustrating. I dont agree with the things she said about Gwen later but at the end of the day shes just a person with an opinion and at least shes not hiding behind a keyboard when she shares them... Love them both tho both ICONS

To add to this video .... The Courtney interview was more than just a cheerleader comment. She said Gwen isn't a real rock star. Also, I firmly believe that when Gwen says "This my sh*t" , she is dissing Courtney for all of the allegations about her stealing music from Kurt Cobain after he died and saying she wrote it.

Well he's a narc, he's concerned about his image, if course he's going to be nice. And people tend to exaggerate when they don't get what they want. They'll ask for an autograph in the bathroom and call the celeb rude when they don't get it. She was in an abusive relationship, give the woman a break.

Family Guy's Cleveland perfectly summed up a "Hollaback Girl" in relation to Love. It seems Love has always been Jealous of Gwen, I mean sleeping with Gwen's BF and the 'Clothing Empire' comment, what she says of Gwen is very telling. I bet Love would Love to have a Clothing Label! Though, who wants to dress like a Babydoll that murdered her famous rock Musician partner though, right? 'Allegedly!' haha. I think all the diss Tracks about Love have gone to her head, I guess she's doing something right! I actually Like 'Hole' and one of Loves solo records though.
