Never got the comparisons between the two, besides them looking similar at one point their music did not sound the same. Rita had a more dance/electropop with a bit of Rnb whilst Rihanna had the Caribbean influence in the beginning of her career. Although that time edm sound was popular that's about it, Rita is just another British artist that never broke into the US which isn't anything new. Had she released a second album around 2014-2015 when she was releasing a bunch of hit singles, also she could've broke into the US with I will never let you down had her ex Calvin Harris not blocked it the collab with Iggy would've catapulted the song.

I remember when She burst on the scene in the U.K.. racked up 3 no.1s in 2012, seemed like she was gonna be here to stay. She was in the same position Dua was just before she cracked the States. It’s sad Rita stopped making music because she actually has a great voice. Life seems to have worked out for her. But it’s interesting to speculate about the music she would have made if she continued releasing albums between 2012-2018. A 6 year gap in todays music climate isn’t wise. Not mention music trends toward the end of the decade were COMPLETELY different. Her debut album sounded fresh in 2012. By the time ‘Phoenix’ dropped in 2018, her brand of music seemed dated and utterly pedestrian. Shame industry politics and ligation got in art’s way.

Calling someone “the next” anybody is like placing a jinx on their career because the fans of the person they’re being compared to will go out of their way to sabotage and tear down that new artist. As well as immediately casting a shadow over them. They called Beyonce “the next Tina Turner” until she went “white-girl pop” with I Am Sasha Fierce and got out from under that shadow. She still had to deal with the older crowd disrespecting her and trying to discredit her talent in defense of Tina Turner just because she was called “the next”.

I feel like Rita Ora was more a product of the edgy RnB dubstep crossover image of the early 2010s. She was also royally screwed over by her label. I disagree with her lack of Ora-centricness. I think her music has a lightness and effervescence that contrasts Rihanna's more hardcore/heavier sonic and vocal identity. She retained success in the UK. Her sophomore album recieved greatly positive reviews and could've carved out a Carly Rae Jepsen type niche for her in the UK, although pure pop still has more of an audience in the UK than US.

She didn’t make it big in the US because that song Never Let You Down was supposed to be her global hit produced and written by Calvin Harris (her boyfriend at the time) he also produced a whole album for her but when they broke up he refused to sign it off and her label Roc Nation didn’t really do anything to help her

She should have been up there with the biggest pop artists, but roc nation blocked 2 of her albums in the prime years of her career. Luckily now shes free and made all the hits, her new album campaign is gonna start in October! ( also, her whole identity was being Albanian early in her career so idk why everyone thought shes black)

I remember first hearing Drake's version of "RIP'. It was floating around in 2010 as a leak called "Im Ready For Ya" and it sounds so much better than the version he gave Rita Ora. You can still find the full track on KZbin now.

The problem with Rita was people felt like she was being pushed on the Black community with a taste of Black fishing. Her career was already done before it started in the US. She was more known for fashion, showing up to any event and being way to comfortable next to Jayz. She should have cuddled up to a different group of people because the Rihanna, JayZ, Beyoncé circle may let people in but they never get far for long. They are trying to spread a Black excellence idea and Rita was just not going to work with all the extra stuff.
@naiiiim

I never heard of them being compared until now tbh? I did however know about how Rita, Bebe and Dua were constantly compared at one point. You should do a video about that. Especially about how Dua has moved into the general mainstream plateforme being given recognition etc when Rita and Bebe who (probably, I’m not sure) have been around longer were never pushed to that level.

This topic is so irrelevant now. What you should be talking about is how hard Rita has worked in the industry for ten years. During roc days she was treated so badly and they blocked her albums in both 2014 and 2015. (They can be found on KZbin) Even after all that drama she reinvented herself with pheonix in 2018 and it literally has 3 BILLION streams. Everything she does, she does to the best quality and her vocals are getting even better. She has so many hits, she’s internationally successful everywhere apart from the US. She’s been on a break but her third album is coming to outserve all your faves, watch out for the lead single in October! 😌

These are the two albums that were Fully finished and ready for release. But Rita has made quite a few more, there are a lot of random demos that you’ll be recommended to. Rita is a prime example of a music artist who just simply never took off (at least in the States). I remember back when “How We Do” and “RIP” were out, they both did better in the clubs and she had me excited for the “Ora” album. However, it never was released here and the interest wore off. After that for the most part she got more attention for other things besides her music. Yeah, there was “Black Widow”, but otherwise her singles fly under the radar here. Her constant image reinventions also are a factor why she hasn’t hit that star status here because she keeps being unrecognizable before establishing herself.

This is all wrong on so many levels. She was 19 at that time. First off, Fefe was dropped by the label by the time Riri turned into the badgal. Fefe was struggling to get her second album out when Pon de Replay was on the radio. Secondly, Rihanna expressly stated that the label was against her transformation. She stated that she had to beg to cut her hair, and she had to secretly work with her hairdresser to cut it even shorter than expected. Lastly, Fefe's style was never original. What she did was common amongst the pop-punk scene in the early 2000's but Black. She was only a knock-off Avril Lavigne. In contrast, Rihanna was more obviously inspired by Grace Jones.

False. Rihanna has always stated that her label was strongly against Rihanna's creative direction in terms of her own style, sound, appearance, etc. This is why her 3rd album is called Good Girl Gone Bad; they wanted rih's image to be a innocent 'school' girl type and rih disagreed. Rih even said Jayz disagreed with her when she cut her hair into her iconic asymmetrical bob.
