0Motion Controls has been around for a long time, but it wasn’t until a certain game changes the way how players sees Motion Controls. So how does Gyro Controls works? This video will explain the usage of Gyro Controls and how it’s better than traditional Joysticks for certain genres.

you're not alone, Splatoon changed everyone, Gyro is now my main aim in fps and thirdperson shooters, i am not joking, i'm even uploading configs for gyro switch pro on steam, some games support controller+mouse but others you have to use Keyboards inputs on controller like GTA 4 works only using keyboard and mouse config but works very well for aiming the guns and driving with controller feels good

Activision and Sony need to get there act together, otherwise Nintendo are gonna kick there arse. The Switch did amazing, Nintendo have perfected there recipe. Definitely looking forward to the next console.

I've been playing fortnite on Nintendo switch because I just wanted to lay down and play but aim Is terrible on switch I went through the settings and turned on gyro it's so good it's like using a mouse you can make quick adjustments while also using joysticks it feels better than playing on my series s

I'm actually surprised by the amount of effort that went into this video. Only negative I can add is the voice is rough at times. If you want to keep making these styles of in depth videos then you'll need to work on annunciation. Overall though it is surprisingly well done.

Finally, a real criticism about my own voice! there is factors to why my voice sounded rough in this video than the previous videos (unless it's intentionally bad) that I have done: 1. I have to read the same line twice, just to get it right. and if that specific line is long, I have to split half of the sentence so I can breathe. I didn't have that problem when I decided to re-record half of the lines, more on that in Reason Number 4. 2. it sounded better in my head. a daily struggle of a Amateur "Voice Actor". 3. I have some troubles pronouncing certain words, which resulted a couple of rewrites to compensate. this is due to me, living in a foreign country for a decade that I feel like I lost my English pronunciation skills. But ever since I moved back to America last year (as of this writing), I'm planning to improve my vocal cords... for some reason I can pronounce better by Voice Acting than with my regular voice. 4. starting in [Gyro Gameplay - Camera: 12:43 ] You will notice a shift with my voice, that's because I re-recorded every single line from that point, just to reduce editing time. the good news is that I don't have to read the same line twice as I breeze 'thou' the entire re-recording phase. in hindsight, I should've [Voice] re-record the entirely of this video...but that would require even more work in the editing bay and it's too late for me to do that. but thank you for the feedback, making this style of video (and it's my first time making a 'video essay') was a learning process for me and it help me prepare for the next video...which is about...YIIK: A Postmodern RPG... PS: by the "Annunciation", do you mean Pronunciation?

I recommend doing this for DualShock 4 and Switch Pro Controller's gyro camera reset: * Set Gyro always on * Create an action layer for "Gyro Off" in which the gyro sensor is disabled * Set a button of your choosing to function as "Hold Action Layer" * BOOM! As long as you're holding that specific button, you can disable the gyro sensor and re-center your camera! I use the PS4 controller Back Button Attachment, set the rear-right button to the Options button, and map that to the "Gyro Off" or "Gyro On" function (depending on the game). The touchpad can function as "Start" (or it can be "Select" if you set the Share button to "Start" instead or use a split pad setup.) I call this "XInput with Gyro Aim" on my PC but I hope someone finds this helpful!

Coincidentally, I discover that same method a few days ago as I was experimenting with a new method of Gyro Pause button. I call it, "Gyro Activation Timer" technique via Steam Input. (I do know that JoyShockMapper now offers the same option.) with this method; it allows me to have both "Melee" and "Pause Gyro" share the same button, while setting a short window before Always-On Gyro reactives by itself. i really apreciate these videos because they educate gamers. However, i would love to see one that gives credit to the Wii games that actually implemented motion controls correctly. Wii is the only console that is remembered for the bad... imagine remembering the PS2 for the amount of shovelware or crappy games that also existed in it's library. MicroSoft is the one holding controller evolution back by not using Gyro in their controllers, it's the main reason why we rarely see gyro aiming in PS4 games. MS should have included a Gyro at the least with the release of the first Pro controller.

@@vaannebilim The cool thing is that some games implement both gyro and the sensor. For example, some games use the IR sensor to prevent the gyro from drifting as long as the user ocasionally points towards the sensor bar, which solves the biggest problem with gyro. While other games used the gyro to compensate for the instance in which the user moved the Wii Remote out of the sensor bar range. A real lost for everyone that the Wii Remote didn't software kept evolving as devs (and even Nintendo moved to other things). The funny thing is that people are rediscovering and exploring these solutions with VR again.

Actually, I used gyroscope on Escape from Tarkov, when I accidentally matched my controller motion to the character’s arm motion I felt as immersed as if it was VR. When I reached the edge of the screen and had to use unnatural motion to recenter the controller, I felt instantly nauseous. My simple brain thought the character’s arms were my own. I believe the combination of an already fixed monitor FOV and mouse sensitivity mapped to the 3D 360° and real world distances made it work the way it did.

Really hope gyro catches on faster, not having gyro aim as a standard option in every game is a big part of the reason I’m looking to move to PC entirely. Until then I’m looking into getting a XIM NEXUS controller once that releases this year to force gyro into everything until then

I recently got myself a dual shock 4 controller and have been dabbling in inserting gyro aim into games that don't have it using steam Skyrim legendary, borderland 2 fallout new Vegas and lots more It feels soooo good!

Bend Studio also used gyro on Undercharted: Golden Abyss. It's not that great, but it was a nice addition. Glad to see to gyro aiming coming back to Days Gone.

Four things I have to ask 1) Why in Splatoon when I use gyro aiming, I can't look up or down with the joystick? 2) Microsoft, can you please put a gyroscope in the Xbox series X controller? 3) Why don't more games on the ps4 have motion aiming? 4) Will the ps4 port of Doom Eternal have gyro aiming? I know the switch version would have it but why not the ps4 version?

Answer No. 1) I believe Splatoon's method (which is Always-On Gyro, keep that in mind) wants you to only tilt up and down, but turn left and right [stick]. and after playtesting my own configs using Splatoon's method (but keeping Left and Right Tilting), I believe it's the easiest way to get into Always-On Gyro Aiming. Answer No. 2) ever since Microsoft shared more details about Xbox Series X 2-3 weeks ago (as of this writing), they made no mention of Gyroscopic Sensors. that probably mean Xbox Controller is going to be stuck in the past, despite improved input latency. as for Answer No. 3-4: i dunno, I haven't seen PS4 Players demanding Gyro Aiming, and I don't even think DOOM Eternal's PS4 version doesn't has it.

@@AL2009man I'm so disappointed that microsoft would not just add a gyroscope in the new controller. It would encourage me to get the controller, and would probably encourage developers to add gyro aiming as an option in their games Also a poll says that around 30% of ps4 owners would encourage gyro aiming in their games. Which I know is the minority, but 30% is a significant amount of people who would want gyro aiming in ps4 games. So if more of those people would ask more developers to add gyro aiming in games, then maybe they would listen. God knows I am asking the doom and bethesda twitter to add gyro aiming as an option in doom eternal. Maybe if someone would make a video or encourage even more people to ask the bethesda or doom twitter to add gyro aiming in doom eternal, then maybe they would add it in a patch. It is only a week old

For Doom (2016) on Switch the only complaint I have for that game’s gyro implementation is that even on max sensitivity horizontal movement is very weak

When I played halo 5 at a friend's house a couple of years ago I asked "does this shit have gyro aim?" "No." I was unable to get a kill. I also really felt like I was cheating because analog sticks need a crutch to be a viable option.

What's the consensus on using Steam controller config vs alternative programs? Steam for example cannot present DS4 as DS4, so you always get wrong button prompts in games. Also, you can't map Guide button and some other KB buttons, for no reason. DS4Windows can do all that, you can still have games view DS4 controller as DS4 and present correct button prompts, but switching profiles based on games doesn't work, and the dev removed macro construction system, which was a really fucking stupid move. My ticket suggesting to bring it back was just closed with zero input from the dev. InputMapper has macro construction, but has not had an update in 5 years and still has unresolved reported bugs, the version that was actually in development (1.7 now) is still a cobbled together mess with bad UI

Steam cannot present DS4 as DS4, I do agree with that and it would be nice to be part of the Legacy Mode someday. And, you can ACTUALLY map the Guide button in Steam Input mode and you can find it in: Desktop: Steam > Settings > Controller > Guide Button Chord Configuration Big Picture Mode: Settings > [Controller] Base Configuration > Steam Button Chord configuration It's only used for Global Chords; I don't see any use for Guide Button other than the "Show Overlay" button. But It can be useful for certain stuffs if you're a streamer. But as for the rest, that's the general byproduct of Controller Support on PC, even if some games like Death Stranding offers a manual Button Prompt switch (in addition to allowing Mixed Input Support), you either have to use Muscle memory or download a mod for it. Hell, we don't even know if a game supports the DualShock 4 (or Nintendo Switch Controllers within Steam Input API) until players find out about it themselves. Even if they do list them (and that's rare), the actual [Steam Input API] implementation can be subpar or bad (as seen with Horizon Zero Dawn). Not all newer games support DS4 anyway. Even if you use DS4Windows and Output it to DualShock 4, you lose Touchpad and Gyroscopic Functions in the process. Which means; You can't use Rogue Company's Native Gyro Aiming function unless you map Gyro as a Mouse Input. That's why both Steam Input API and JoyShockLibrary aims to fix those problems until it becomes the standard in PC's Controller Support, especially when it comes to XInput/DirectInput. Controller Support outside of Xbox Controllers can be rather...messy. As for Steam's Controller Configurator, it is very powerful (and buggy sometimes.) once you know how to play around with it. Although, reWASD (paid Input Mapper) do have more features (such as Xbox Elite Controller Paddle support) and JoyShockMapper offers faar more advanced features for Gyro Players, Steam's still does the job well.

@@AL2009man well, now steam doesn't even see the controller. I enabled PS4 config support, used a wired connection, restarted Steam - nothing. It worked on Linux on same PC, in Windows - nope. Other programs see it, Steam doesn't.

when ppl ask how can anyone even use gyro aim? I say. can you take a photo on your phone?... its that simple aim and take a pic. I wass rank 1 in a game on mobile and was always accused of emulating

Prior to the release of this video, I was looking at options on showing a Controller Overlay that detect Motion Sensors, the closest I could find is the one that Jibb Smart uses, but it wasn't available to everyone yet. For the time being, I had to stick with no Webcam view (I had to get someone to hold a camera for me since I don't have a GoPro Camera or equivalent) Since then, VSCView (A overlay for Steam Controller that detect Motion Sensors) added DualShock 4 Overlay and I've been using it ever since, If you seen my RE5 Gyro Aiming video (or a Livestream of PS4 Games using Gyro Aim as a test, you can watch the VOD on my Livestream Archival Channel) , you will see that overlay with Motion Sensors in action. I don't know if your Phone (Android or iOS?) has applications that show a Overlay, but I can't say much about it.

...the Gyroscope/Accelerometer is just part of the Controller. If a Controller has a Gyro/Accel Sensor built-in (the major omission is Xbox Controllers), developer can take advantage of it. Outside of Input Mapper/Wrappers*, you don't see many games using it outside of Nintendo Switch titles. *with Input Mappers like Steam Gamepad Emulation, reWASD, BetterJoy or DS4Windows; they can just map the Gyro as a Mouse or Joystick Input.

Sucks that epic games don't have this for there store or in all the gaming platforms, I would love to play fortnite with montion controls just like I do on my switch, mobile can but not with a controller I'm told

in case you didn't know, you can get Gyro Aiming on Fortnite's PC Version working with Steam Input (or, Steam Controller Configuration), DS4Windows (for Dualshock 4), JoyShockMapper and suchs.

I didn't know about Magnent Aiming. I wonder if this will help my sniping in video games? :P I really hope next gen consoles implement some of these ideas.

What's funny is that a lot of this stuff was adressed by developers in the Wii days. The thing is, that these types of innovations were spread among many games in it's library. The Wii Remote was/is a massive revolution, at the least in terms of camera control, that was unnoticed by the majority of gamers and the industry in general. Btw, this is an objective comment with no sarcasm. VR is proving this right now but i think a lot of it's advantages shouldn't be relegated to VR games only.

It bothers me that xbox doesn't yet have motion controls integrated in the controller. Playstation and especially Nintendo are ahead in the game

Unfortunately, you might have to get yourself a new Controller with Gyro Sensor functions. (I don't know WHICH Ipega Controller are you referring to, not even sure if Steam Link Touch Controller can serves as a workaround) Thankfully, there are Licensed third party controller that has Gyro Sensors build-in and is cheaper, but PC Support there isn't documented well (some in Gyro Gaming Discord has play around with their third-party controllers), and it really varies. you might be lucky if a Controller has a button that switch from Switch/PlayStation Controller mode to PC Mode (which is basically XInput Controller). Otherwise, you're better off buying a Official Controller, used or new.

@@ospree3633 So, a Mobile-focused Gamepad? I do know that Steam Link does allow you to use the Phone's Gamepad if you're using Touch Controls, but I can't confirm if it works with any Controllers that way, you might as well test that. otherwise, I can't help much.

Yes,but i don't use Steam Link Though. Although i tried a App in my Phone Called 'PC Remote' by Monect and Bluetooth it,the driving controls is not great but the Xbox 360 Controller input did help a bit,but had to go Automatic in racing games.

There are a few.both the last of us games have it (not sensitivie enough in my opinion). days gone ahs it .boomerang x, Deatloop, Fortnite, horizon forbidden west. These are just a few. But not many more games do sadly.

It was a bit weird that you showed the entire splatoon 2 trailer, you only needed like the first several seconds but eh. A bit long and could've been cut down. Also the section where you explain motion controls feels a bit plagiarized from the nerrel explanation because you went over a lot of the same points.

as far as I know, only the Halo games is well known for using Bullet Magnet, even before Halo 5 turn it up to absurd numbers. I do know that later COD Games (I think starting in Black Ops 4) and Destiny 1/2 use Bullet Magnet.

Call of Duty Mobile uses the phones gyro controls yet Console CODs still use shitty joystick controls and for a free mobile game, the aiming experience is 10x better than Console Cod.

Ah yes, the Gyrometer, more controversial than switching to ESDF. However, I do not believe that Gyro is the future, simply put it, Shakey hands. The best way to control FPS games is to use taller thumb sticks, the reason why people use gyro is because it is accurate, with taller thumbsticks you can use more force. Control Freeks already made a video on how it works. But it's the same reason a long lever is easier to pull than a small one. Also, joy stick is better for flight. And also don't shit on me, I want a meaningful talk.

in 28:50 timestamp, one of my feedback is that Developers should provide a *option* to Enable Gyro Aiming, regardless if it's on or off as Default. I also put " *(This is important for people with disabilities)* " text to highlight it shortly after. Even if this entire video is all about "Hey guys, look at Gyros and how it can improve controllers", I do acknowledge it briefly. As for Taller Thumbsticks, I can definitely see the improvements alongside Gyro Aiming (sadly, I currently don't have a KontrolFreek stick, but I would love to test it out with Rainbow Six Siege), and it could benefit Splatoon players the most. I know Xbox Elite Controller guys can take advantage of Big Sticks from there. But, keep in mind that Aim Assist is still going to be the thing, and it will vary from game-to-game. (Looking at you, Fortnite and Halo 5) And what did'ya thing I only focused on Driving Simulators than Arcady games? Of course Flying a Helicopter is better with Joystick than Gyros, (unless we're talking Star Fox Zero, but let's not get to that.) that's why I provide a Action Set switch for certain games (like Destiny 2 or Dying Light: The Following) that has vehicles for my "DS4 Gyro-Optimized Config" project.

@Hexaltheninja Wow - Sadly, that's the reality of Competitive Multiplayer games/modes for those peeps. but I do appreciate that more and more developers (such as Naughty Dog with Uncharted 4 and Matt Makes Games/EXOK with Celeste) starts adding important accessibility features so that more people get to play it (in a sigle-player-only sense).

Either you haven't played enough Multiplayer Shooters (not counting Single-Player ones like Cyberpunk 2077) with a Controller or on Consoles, or maybe you're playing tricks on me.

There’s a difference between the two, if it snaps like GTA it’s auto aim, if it’s aim slow down its aim assist

For Rockstar's method of assistances, you're correct. I'll blame Rockstar for renaming their Targeting Mode options instead of keeping their older, Last-Gen Naming equivalents. However, based on what I've seen (and by experience); some games tend to mix "Auto Aim Snap" and "Aim Assist" together in one. Eh, I don't really know. I tried it out, I just didn't enjoy it, like I get why people would like it. But it's eh, I don't enjoy the feeling of having to my controller along with using the sticks for better aiming. It just, doesn't feel interesting or fun for me. I prefer the more simple aim assist. It just feels more secure, but then again I'm the type of person to favor simplicity rather than being complicated.

It's not that complicated to learn how to Gyro Aim (unless a game borked their *native* Gyro Aim implementation: i.e: Resident Evil Village on PS5, *AND ONLY PS5, not on PS4 nor PC, ONLY PS5* .), But I often read people's first-time experience that they often rely on the Motion Sensors to move the camera for the majority of the time without realizing they can still use the Analog Stick like normal. I will strictly talk about Natively implemented games with Gyro Aim support for this one. The advice I would tell to new players is this: 1. Don't play any games with an Always-On Gyro Aim setup, the kinds that demands much from you (i.e: Doom Eternal, Splatoon, Apex Legends, Gravity Rush series). I highly suggest playing a game which requires an Aim Down Sight to fire (examples for natively implemented ones: The Last of Us Part II, Days Gone, Zelda: Breath of the Wild.) until you get a hang of it. 2. *Don't rely too much on Motion Sensors* . Use the Analog stick for the majority of the time, and use the Motion Sensors for minor adjustments if necessary. This plays a huge role for Number- 3. Adjusting sensitivity: The same way how you do it with the Analog Joystick's camera sensitivity. This plays a big role on how you play a game. Do you prefer low sensitivity that allows you to do minor adjustments while using a Sniper Rilfe? No problem. It's really up to you. I know those three simple steps may seem complicated, but I assure you it's not. Just treat the Gyro Aim as if you're using a Flashlight Beam conducting the camera...or just treat it like a Mouse. However, I do understand you prefer to let Aim Assist to do the work for you. and it's also one of the things that I briefly brought up (but not in audio-format) about Accessibility there. (Unless were talking Multiplayer-focused games, then it's a different story) Man, this sure reminds me of that DOOM 2016 vs DOOM Eternal gameplay comparison.
