Recon sniper vs scout sniper & differences
@RedxCode Жыл бұрын
Fun fact, the RPAT was also adopted by Scout Snipers as an annual test including at the schoolhouses some time during GWOT era until disbandment, known as the SSPAT (the only difference was the swim was for completion, not time). It was done to ensure peak physical standards for those in the Scout Sniper/STA Platoons and is usually used as an initial assessment for platoon candidates during screeners.

I was the 1st Recon Co (HQBN BN 1stMarDiv) in 93'. It was called the Indoc and we had to run it to wear the Company Sweats during Company PT. Hq Platoon had to do every event pass or fail. 8 hrs of "good shit" 👊👍

When I was there in 05-07, HQ Bn was only H&S Company and Truck Company. But HQBN was a weird thing. It was a battalion level element, but adjacent commands like provisional MP Company and Division School fell under it for some support stuffs. Even the higher G level shops has some stuff that fell under HQBNs AO like their white gear vehicles. Was a weird fuckin situation. A large chunk of personnel across HQBn was FAPs from all over division. Guys that were medboarding, guys without enough time left for a deployment, legal holds. Looking back it was fucking weird. 1st Recon Battalion was next door and they ran the BRPC next door. This was all on camp margarita at the time. that weird ass half 5 story barracks out by the gas chamber? It’s still there and is abandoned. I stopped by Margarita in 2019 when I retired and the whole place is so much nicer 😅

You really cant prepare for it. You should be deadlifting and squatting before you go, 3 months bootcamp will destroy your gains, MCT wont give you time to regain anything, you wont have time to get in shape to go do BRC and not feel it. I went through in 2013 on a recon contract, it was really quite miserable from day 1 to finishing the death hike. If youre willing to die before quitting, refuse to quit and keep moving, do what youre told, keep your mouth shut unless you need to speak and meet the standards, you will pass. It is not for the weak and 0321s are truly a special group of dudes. Its a hard life and if youre reason for joining is any other reason other than to go kill people in war, dont waste your time pursuing Marine Recon and go do a comfy mil job

The perfect age to go to the reconnassance selection and indoc programs, BRC, etc., is 20 years old after establishing urself in the Infantry as a top athlete in rucking and PFTs. Recommend you are at a 300 PFT with a hangover on any given day. Last but not least, you don't have to be a great swimmer, but you have to be a good swimmer, and you have to learn to relax in the water for the underwater stuff which is more mental than anything else.
@SocialismDoesntWork2 күн бұрын
Uhh… you know the majority of us were or are contract recon babies right? Dont waste your time at an infantry unit just so you can get abused and crapped on by idiot leadership. HZ Recon contract is the way to go, then GTFO to go to Marsoc, SF, Orange, or get a degree and go be a federal agent with someone. You dont need to be a 300 PFT’er, 275-285 you will be totally fine. Its not about being a top performer, its about meeting the standards and NEVER quitting and not being a crap team mate who is selfish. As a Recon Marine in the real world, you will never sprint in shorts and a T shirt, you will instead have more weight than you ever wanted and will move as fast as you can without dying and being absolutely trashed and worthless on an objective.

Back in 89 I did the indoc for 1st Force in the Phillippines. This consisted of the normal PFT events, pushups, and the 500m swim. We then did a 15 mile run through the jungle (7 steps) where guys were dropping like flies. It was about 99% humidity at 95F. At then end, only 3 of us finished. Me, A guy named Wahlburn, and some dude from 1st Tanks who did it just for shits and giggles. I was then told "I did a good job but this really didn't count" and to do this again when we got back to Pendleton. What a mind fuck. 🤣🤣

I think the RECON tab is an indicator that they are Ranger Qualified. I have also seen ‘Sapper’ tabs looking a lot like the yellow Ranger tab. Recon Marines don’t really wear tabs on their cammies from what I remember. I only ever saw them wear the Gold Jump Wings and Scuba pins on their cammies.
