What an amazing amount of content you have put out there. I don't think it can be fully appreciated how life changing this could be to a brass student looking for direction in playing.

Jeff, in alignment with the discussion, I was kind of shocked to find a discussion about the "movement of the lower lip" on page 164 of the clarke series in setting up drills.

I suspect you’re looking at the Hickman edition because Setting Up Drills is only about 35 pages long. If you read all of the text you will see how HLC look at the tongue level and lips working together more and the diagram with the lines is about tongue level too with how the lines move in relation to the pitch. It’s best to actually listen to Claude talk about HLC because he studied longer with HLC than anyone else and later so he heard more of the full story. Another thing often questioned is that HLC said 50/50 top lip and CG ⅔ but Claude said HLC actually was higher on his top lip. The problem with focusing on the lower lip is that you can get into tucking your bottom lip and and that creates all sorts of problems. I had that issue and it was resolved through proper practice of a smart routine.

Thank you for making all of this info available. It gives a much clearer understanding of how to interpret and approach this material.
