@pearinsomnia91883 күн бұрын
I feel like Huberman’s issue isn’t his personal brand as much as it is the way he platforms whoever his guest is and generally just… agrees with everything they say. Like, it’s great he has guests instead of speaking on subjects he himself has no expertise in, but some of his guests are iffy and he approaches them with curiosity and openness instead of skepticism… which would be great if this wasn’t a *science* podcast. He’s leaning into being a podcaster instead of a science communicator (like Michelle) and that’s a disappointment, because those are two very different things but people believe he’s the latter because that’s where he started.

As a chemist to i like to say the next thing: A Dermatologist can know about skincare, but not because they are formed with that knowledge, but rather because dermatology shares certain knowledge with cosmetic science (Skin anatomy, skin conditions, etc...) but lacks certain knowledge partially (toxicology applied in cosmetic science) or completely (formulation of products) so they will have the same knowledge as an average profesional in any area in certain cases, such as sunscreen formulation, they could look for information but since they had no formation in formulation, if they don't consult with an expert in the area or learn formally about that (for example by doing scientific research in a laboratory). this is a real problem because a lot of dermatologist try to advice about skincare which is fine when it comes to anecdotes for advicing certain products for conditions for example (which is why i love dr dray, she really knows how to advice and even if she has knowledge about skincare in general, she probably knows that for example a toxicologist would explain better the risk of ingredients), but when it comes with scientific education, unless they invite an expert in that area, they could potencially misinform a good analogy for this is the next one: A Human surgeon could potencially know about animal surgery but won't have a better view than a veterinarian, a veterinarian will almost all the time will have a better perspective in animal surgery, that doesn't mean that a human surgeon won't know anything, but if they read an article they won't have the same perspective and they could say something wrong.

@@bosmer3836the problem in terms of supplement use and whatnot is that they aren’t regulated and are, in many countries, technically food. For doctors, who tend to work with specified dosages to medicine, talking about supplements that often don’t have the stated dosage in each pill or scoop and sometimes have things they aren’t supposed to have in them, is like playing roulette with a patient’s health. Michelle should be paid by the government at this point. She is doing more for fighting misinformation and educating public than even some government bodies. Thank you, Michelle! I wish I pursued a degree in chemistry instead of what I did in life 😂 I was good at chemistry and biology at school and studied it at advanced level (for secondary school). Now I enjoy learning about cosmetic chemistry from people like you and that little knowledge of chemistry from school helps to understand some things quicker 😊

Thank you so much for creating this. It's clear, well-researched, and respectful. I can only imagine the monumental amount of time and effort this took.

Being a Greek and being exposed to our beautiful blue sky and luminous sunlight I must say that it doesn't take a lot to agree with you. Sun is a friend and a foe at the same time. Leave the B.S.guys and use a good sunscreen, a good shadow and clothing whenever possible. Great video ❤

The amount of work you put into your videos is insane. By far the best quality content I've ever seen on youtube! You are very brave taking on some of these big egos that so carelessly confuse people about health and science. I'm sure you have to take a fair bit of backlash for daring to correct them. Please don't stop ❤

Dear Andrew Huberman, I have been using chemical sunscreen for 15 years now and never ever ever ever have I tasted it in my mouth. This could be a problem specific to you.

I didn't realise some people eat it. No wonder they put on the bottle not to eat it.

I only begin to use the right amont of sunscreen after I've found a sunscreen that didn't leave a white cast on my face. I can imagine that only having mineral sunscreen as a option can make people use less or even give up on sunscreen altogether, especially for people with darker skin shades.

I am SO happy you went through this whole video, amazing as always Michelle!! From watching you and Dr Dray I was calling BS through the 2 episodes of Huberman. Actually stopped watching him after the derm was on. So frustrating with all the misinformation, because he has a lot of followers!! Really appreciate you debunking all of it 😊

In Sweden we're taught skin cancer is the deadliest. Shocked to find out people think it's "mild" or something.

Commenting to try and communicate to KZbin that long form deep dives are still enjoyable. I love that you have done multiple sunscreen “Top X of [YYYY]” because the industry keeps evolving. But this debunk is fabulous for tackling topics that you’ve covered before in multiple videos. I keep lapsing on my sunscreen care because as soon as I get sweaty my eyes start stinging (I avoid mascara for the same reason). And now it may be too late but I realize I need to get back on my game.

When I hear things like "you can find lots of information on that on the internet", the scientist in me dies a little. I need a source that isn't just someone's prestige or I don't trust it 😅 though I think once he has the right expert, some of the episodes are really insightful in a meaningful way
