I keep planning - fixed daily routine but if a little thing goes wrong as not expected I would get lazy and procrastinate the whole day.... This has been going on for two years and I'm aware of it every time. I've heard tons of motivational audio books, speeches. Read lots of books, and watched all the videos/movies they work but they last for only couple of weeks... And now I've understood motivation is bullshit. Believe me you know it, you just have to go the extra mile and you'll make the impossible, possible. If you want to get things done, you've to sacrifice and struggle like a war with yourself.. No matter what get the thing done keep going... Wish me luck, I've a long road to go.

I love you. You just spoke out everything i had in my mind, you basically listed put all my problems, all that is wrong in my life. I am a total mess, with very high class, out of league dreams. I am an OCD, a perfectionist, people keep telling me you cannot be perfect it is impractical to be perfect and it wastes my time. I am a medical student. I had a deadline of submitting file work, i crossed that deadline just to make all the diagrams look neat and perfect. I wasted my time on that which i could've utilised to study for my test which is tomorrow. I didn't study for the test and i was so stressed right now because of this that it made me nauseous. I have been a big time procrastinator and an overthinker, so much that getting into a medical school was a real struggle. And now i am writing this with the hope that you'd read this comment and notice me because now i am a fan (read one of your books but didn't know you're actually a great person, someone i wish to be) and because i couldn't vent this out to anyone as they'll either not understand me or just make fun of me that i did such a stupid thing. I was freaking out really and you calmed me down. No one till now could do that except my own self, but YOU did that today. I am grateful.

I have been fighting this problem for long. People loose upon some golden opportunities, which could have changed their lives forever, for not making up their mind to take steps in lives. Sometimes consequences of procrastination may be life altering for the worse. And slowly the smoke of guilt of inaction start plaguing our lives.

Yes, Everyone tells same kind of stuff... Do 1 thing at a time, break the task into small pieces, work for sometime 30-45 minutes and then reward yourself with some rest of 5-10 minutes. We all know this. Unfortunately, there is no magic. The only way to come out of procrastination is highly self discipline, self control. Work like a robot. Fight with yourself This is the only way. Watching N numbers of video's is just a waste of another time.

I listen you speaking and have a question, for you or for anyone reading this.... don't you think that by setting goals and constantly thinking about the future, you miss the moment. The only time the person feels happy is the moment, you can't be happy if you're living in the future (and realizing that you don't have the things you want in that moment), when you see that pictures in the morning you feel like you are missing something which feels somehow constantly not good. Don't you think that by constantly living for the future, you miss the moment and the pure natural happiness and that if you spend a great part of your life in that state that it may be really bad?
@hikikhun666810 жыл бұрын
I think you watch too much eckhart tolle or have a buddhist mindset. If we all lived in the present moment without creating goals in the life, we would be in a cave trying to understand how to make fire. The purpose of "living the moment" is just not to lose yourself in the infinite thoughts that appear in your brain. This doesn't mean you can't plan or use imagination. Thinking too much is bad, it doesn't work, for anyone, so focus on something else, your mind can't focus on 2 things. If you focus on something else, you won't think, if you focus on thinking, you wont focus on something else. That simple. Procrastination comes from thinking too much and not taking an action at all. Taking an action requires motivation... MY motivation is that i'm dying while doing nothing, so i have to do something. Also, give preference to "teacher/coach" that give information based on scientific studies with empirical evidence proving its value as truth. Note that i'm sharing my opinion which i don't have evidence to prove its true. It's my understanding of things.

Hi. Thanks for the video. Although I do get the point on visualizing one's goals, I have a question regarding the same. See, the things you talked about in this video are all materialistic goals- the big house, the cruise ship etc. But I've come to a point where I realize these are not the things which I need to be happy. I have some 'loftier' goals which I wish to achieve- I'm still searching for things which I'd love to do, I'd like to learn as much as possible and also be able to connect the dots between all the spheres of my learning etc. So my question is: how do I visualize these ideas, as they don't have specific images which stand for them, and also, using symbolic imagery might limit their definition? Regards -VInay.
@vinayseth111410 жыл бұрын
Robin Wimmelbücker Hey- thanks! Yes I actually do make it a point to write down my feelings, aspirations, thoughts etc. But the point about death that you mentioned- true indeed! Yes, the realization of the inevitability death is definitely a motivator that can lead us to better appreciate the present moment and weigh our decisions regarding who we want to be and what we wish to do with our time. Thanks again for the advice. Cheers and a good life to you :)
@mikaelthomas637710 жыл бұрын
Hi Vinay. Another note to add. Your will power in this kind of understanding can be related to memory as well. When you are gaining an understanding of something you are making connections in your mind. So when you are thinking of these good feelings you must also be able to see how they relate to you in all these different objects that seem to have no validity to you. I am going through this same problem as well where I am afraid to make certain connections or to do certain things because I am not being honest with myself about what it means. We are all afraid to change these things because we are afraid of what people might think about us. Don't be afraid to include these things in your dreams as you reduce the amount of connections you can make because you cannot see yourself in these things, and they are all part of you as a human being. It would be asinine to suggest if one was offered a free cruise on a yacht that he would not take it because he was too good for it. In everything you will only find the same. To say you will not, must not, make such connections in your life is filled with ego as well. Anything that must control other than take the path of least resistance. It would be like me saying I am not worthy of these things because of all the things I believe in I think that if I believe in this then it will make all these other things true about me. The fear of the lord is pure. Because it purges. The fire consumes your beliefs, the things we want to hold so dear that mean nothing. You are saying you are not worthy of these things. All our of egos in our beliefs battle in the constructs of our mind that we have created, but all made up ideas came from the same place. Do not believe more in the things that make you afraid of what you might see in yourself. Believe in the things that hold true, the suit does not make the man. The money, does not make you. Do not buy into beliefs that turn you against people that are the same. If you get rid of these beliefs the amount of connections your memory can make should increase. As they are no longer being restricted by the assumptions of things that cannot be more real than the experience itself. You would love to do all of these things, you are a human being. Do not let ego create a person in context with which you exist. You are all these things, do not forget
@SheriffJohnStone9 жыл бұрын
I really like your point. Right now I'm in a situation where I could care less about getting a new car, house, etc. I'm finishing up my masters degree in geophysics and I have a full-time job offer with an oil company as soon as I graduate. The problem is, I'm procrastinating my thesis and my family is depending on me to get done within the next month or so. Regarding your question, going to school has cost me valuable time with my wife and children. I prefer time with them over a fancy car and 6 figure salary so on my visual collage, I have picture of a father holding his son and another picture of a father spending time with his daughter. I have a picture of a graduation ceremony marking the end of a very rigorous and tiring degree plan. I have a tree symbolizing a new life ahead of me and the peace and stillness I hope to sustain moving forward. I am similar to you in connecting the spheres of learning, for that I would draw a picture of myself, or cut a picture out of someone teaching. I've found that nothing ties your learning together like teaching. Teaching people challenges you to keep ideas fresh and to constantly be open to new information. You will definitely need to use symbolism for your collages. Unfortunately we live in a very materialistic world where the BMW marks some sort of elevated social status. It would be easy to cut out a picture of a car representing some sort of material gain but the motives for achieving something like that are usual superficial and at their core, related to some sort of inferiority complex. There are people who are more interested in humility and selflessness, there are tons of images illustrating the development of those sort of character traits.

Mikael Thomas Hi Mikael. Thanks for your interpretation. Though I must tell you here that it is not a lack of self-worth that makes me not wish for these things, but a different perspective on life and lifestyle- I'm a visual artist, and I write as well. This video is all about gaining, and that too gaining materialistic things. I wrote this comment a while back, and since then, have made some progress. My priorities no longer lie with gaining, but rather creating and giving. Thanks for your comment though.

SheriffJohnStone Thanks for your comment and advice! I'm in my final semester in Master's as well! :D . Although I'm yet to embark on a family life, I totally understand what you're talking about. We all begin our lives with wishing to accumulate- we truly turn into adults only once the impetus to give, as well as create, starts overcoming this impulse to gain. I like your suggestions and ideas about the visualizations- I realize my ideas aren't lofty at all, and I can indeed pinpoint certain key themes and goals I wish to explore even though they don't have to do much with material gain. The imageries you suggested resolve the conflict pretty well. I shall try this with my goals too. Once, again, thanks a ton, mate. Cheers! :)

Why are so many people supposedly in pursuit of personal development so OBSESSED with money and materialism? It's so shallow.

Absolutely logical and amazing lesson. Robin has done his best by sharing this, and let's see if we make our collages and the 30-day list, do our exercises and so on. He never promised just watching the video will make us powerful, rich, confident - he showed the road that leads to that, and I am gonna do my walking on it. Thanks Robin!

He has just nailed the facts and very helpful tips. Having to focus on a distraction free environment is on top of 'my' list now and realizing that some hidden fear is the root cause of procrastinating- I have bookmarked this vid.. Thank you so much.

You offer so much value!! Thank you Robin! Only yesterday I was reading about having a visual collage of my big goals from the book "Think and Grow Rich". You hit the point when you talked about procrastinating. I do that a lot, I am a student and I have so much fear around starting my projects, i end up procrastinating and feel like sh...t all day. It's like a carry a bag of guilt with me. So, I definitely have to go on a procrastination diet from today! Thank you for sharing!
