Thank you so much for this video, which was super helpful! I was curious, do you think that a master's program is necessary for an undergrad with a non-technical background to transition into an entry level data analyst role? Or is it sufficient to get a certificate & build specific skills (like SQL) with a portfolio? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! 🙏🏻

Because most entry level positions do not require it. Sure some do but majority do not. It’s going to take you just as long to learn Python as it does to use Excel, SQL, and a big tool.

@IanKlosowicz7 ай бұрын
Communication is SO important! This will help you in your interviews as well as on the job as you will be expected to work with others and present findings or talk to clients. For free courses, I am not sure. You will have the best luck looking here on KZbin. I preferred the paid course route since they are usually more structured.

Hi.Iam currently stuck in the tutorial hell.I see somuch videos and information and topics regarding these tools and get overwhelmed seeing how much there is to learn..I am not able to move to further topics thinking I need to go deep and into complex problems to be job ready and Im stuck forever. Were these courses and certificates you took were enough for you when you landed the job and in the real work environment ,how complex can the tools usage can go?
@IanKlosowicz8 ай бұрын
Bare with me... These courses absolutely were enough to land me my first job. The only struggle you will come across is passing a technical interview so you need to be proficient enough to solve these questions. They are not difficult if you've been a data analyst for a while but to a new person, they can be so your best bet is to practice like crazy (NOT meaning to learn in-depth or advanced courses). I can't tell you what your interview questions will be because every company is different but for the majority if its Excel (know xlookup, sumifs, and pivot tables), SQL (know joins, case statements, CTEs, and aggregations), BI tool (know how to create a clean dashboard) Complexity in the tools will go up after you land your job but that's ok because you will be paid to learn it AND that will be the only thing you focus on so it's a lot easier to manage.

@IanKlosowicz7 ай бұрын
You’ll have to use filters and only look at entry level. There are less entry level than senior positions so you’ll have to keep looking
@BusinessDuck695 ай бұрын
Yes, it's extremely hard to get junior jobs in this field (or any tech field right now). Beware of these clickbaity types of videos, as they are part of the problem, drawing people into the industry who think they can take an online course or two and then be on par with people who have a proper education and spend years perfecting these skills. Lame.

The real answer is: it probably happened more than 5 years ago. You can't do it now unless hyper connected, genius or willing to risk waiting 2 years to get a job while doing many courses and certificaTIONS and building a portfolio for a chance at a junior role that now requires what a senior did 5 years ago. Be careful with misinformation!
