Why is there no section about actually affording £120k of training? It doesn't just land in your lap.
@Sicario-Sunny2 ай бұрын
Frfr lol aint no way a 16-18 yo saves up that much. Obviously fully funded by parents or family members... nothing wrong with that but he definitely wasn't transparent regarding his funding.
@harric9864Ай бұрын
Just commented the same thing! He makes it sound easy, but how many people can afford £100k+ to do the flight training?!
@Weaselszone27 күн бұрын
I'm starting next my piloting course in a bit after finishing college earlier this year. The reality is that you can only afford it based on your parents at this age. £120,000 is quite on the cheap side, though. It's about £140,000~£150,000 now, unfortunately.
@boris49523 күн бұрын
Well he obviously avoided the part that 90% of people want to know lol, he said he worked 6 months to save money? It's literally impossible to save around 100k at his age, he obviously got funded by his family which is okay but to me, not being honest and transaparent about it is a red flag or at very least he doesn't feel confortable mentioning it. I'm sorry but is very different to meet a pilot that made it from zero with almost no help of anybody than a pilot that got turbo funded by his parents, you will quickly see the difference of mind. Still Oli shows real dedication, ambition and many positive traits which is amazing but he has been lucky when it comes to get his funding, that's what stops most of aspiring pilots. He doesn't realize that working a normal job, office, cabin crew or whatever will require years and years of savings to pay the flight school.

I have been interested in aviation for a while, and one of my friends always questioned why I never outright said I wanted to be a pilot. My main reason being that I know it is a lot of effort, and costs a lot, and I have never been too sure on where to start. I don't have an exact career path, but just have an interest in computers and aviation, and could go either way, but a job within IT has been the more realistic goal. This video has inspired me to pursue more aviation based careers, even if it just helps me become a private pilot.

For exams I failed a few but I wasn't taking them too seriously at the start and so it took a year and 4 months. By the end I was passing with 90%+ in the exams even doing Rnav, AGK and instruments in 12 minutes, 8 minutes and 6 minutes respectively. You learn a lot about yourself when doing the exams, the highs and lows and the strugglebus. Now I'm in Ireland finishing the flying portion but I have only a year left validity on the exams. It was great to see how many different people were doing the exams and how people helped eachother during the studying. While all my friends are thinking about universities, I want to do flight school, which is just as expensive. Going to Uni and a flight school would be so much more expensive, and money isn't something my family has. But i've also seen online that having a degree is what you should really do, as a bounce back in case being a pilot doesn't work out for any reason, and also the fact that airlines tend to prefer people with degrees (I'm guessing your work experience helped out alot) Now i'm just stuck contemplating about what I should do while juggling a ton of homework lol. What do you think? Should I just take a leap of faith and devote my life to being a pilot like you did? Thanks.

I have no clue what half these words mean, but I’m 13 and dream of being a pilot. I spend so much of my time on the XP12 demo as I don’t have the full game but earlier today I completed my first full flight, a 5 minute glider flight and I was really happy with it. My 3 favourite planes are the Cirrus SR22, Airbus A320CEO and Rockwell B1B. I use my thrustmaster T16000M HOTAS to fly and hope to get a yoke for Christmas to do Boeing flights. I like spawning in the middle of downtown Portland in the Cirrus SR22 and fly around like a complete idiot, though I’d probably be shot down in real life. I hope that when I’m older me and my parents will have enough money for me to get in to flight school. I am currently a Leading Cadet at air cadets and my sister is a CWO but to be honest, cadets is pretty terrible currently as it’s badly managed and barely any events show up, then on my first week of scouts I go on a glider camp and get to sit in the front of an ASK21! Hopefully one day I’ll be like you, as I really wish to get in to commercial flights so hopefully with enough time, effort and money I’ll get there, even if I don’t like takeoffs too much. I’ll be happy in any plane, but I hope I can get in to one where I could get A320 qualifications as I LOVE the A320 so much (Although I love the 747, 757 and 767 I wouldn’t want to fly them) I found this video really interesting, I love your channel! It must have been so hard during COVID and I really respect all new pilots at the times’ determination. love hard landings btw

ive always wanted to be a pilot for as long as i can remember too. ive just completed my a levels and am waiting for my results. decided i wanted to go down the atpl degree courses, and L3 Harris is currently the main flight school im considering. The RAF was something i considered at one point, but after not much time and seeing that 30 people out of almost 3000 applicants each year get accepted, i put that idea to bed. I'm very close to being at the point of making a deposit for the training and have just been for my class 1 medical. decided to hold off until january to keep working at dominos for now to have more money saved to live off. although im holding off im working on getting my PPL with a local flight school. cant wait until january to get started working towards what i ultimately want to be doing, rather than making pizzas. few questions, was L3 Harris a flight school you considered? so far im very impressed by them. and when you're in flight school, especially in the initial part of the training with your ground school, did you get a little part time job doing like 10 hours a week just to give you a bit extra to live off, or is that taking up too much time, or did covid get in the way of this happening? and did you do dual license with the uk caa and easa or did you just do one?

Congrats matey for fulfilling a dream of mine. My parents were willing to remortgage their house to put me through training. I had flying lessons from age 12-16; in C150s amd the 170 and PA28 as a treat (they would cost an extra 40 quid an hour to have lessons in) at 16 my parents became bankrupt but also just prior to that found out that my eyesight is no where near good enough to even achieve a CPL. This isn't a pity party for me, I accept my fate now I'm in my 30s. This is more some encouragement for you, because whenever you have bad days, feel negative which everyone does from time to time. Just remember what a privilege it is to be able to fly. It's only recently though that I've realised that it's not actually flying that interests me; it actually makes me nervous; it's the aircraft and all its systems, life support and structure etc which really invigorates me when I learn further about them! All the best Oli! edit: I just watched that you got your trial flight aged 12 too haha. I saved up my Xmas money to get mine from Argos in 1999 for 100quid at the time haha.

Can you not wear glasses as a pilot?

@@PilotOli No problem at all, all the best in your career!
@n1msu Жыл бұрын
@@mccarey5932 You can wear glasses as a pilot, there's just certain eye conditions which prevent being able to gain a class 1 medical certificate. When I was 17 I had tiny white specs in my eyes (not noticeable to me), kinda like cataracts, which can cause all soerts of issues such as small blind spots. But within reason, glasses to correct distorted eye lenses is totaly fine. Good question though.

I loved hearing your story. I am a person who severly hates math, and I am not good at it, but I am still in love with planes. I assume you were a genius and had very good grades, but I am asking for advice for perhaps someone who doesnt. Thanks

Love your videos, since the time i came across them on youtube i knew this is guy is me, im 19 since recently and from Portugal ( no air cadets here, would have loved for that to exist here ), i already did 8 exams with the authority and despite not having such a good average as yours of 93% and having failed HPL with 74 so not all first time passes on all, Im one of the best in my class and im satisfied with my exams, your channel is a inspiration for me because i feel your journey is so similar to the one im started recently, and all other aspiring pilots as well. During the video you kept saying 2023 i would assume you meant 2022 cause November 2023 is still a little bit in the future. Still loved the video and was definitely hopping for one just like this since i saw the post on Instagram. One question i have is regarding flight hours, do airlines ask for a lot of them? Cause for example my ATO just gives 180 hours.
