I’ll try to make this comment as short as possible. I stumbled across your videos more than a year ago. I was going through a terrible time in my life, my beautiful daughter was very sick (she passed away in 2020) and for whatever reason I found your videos to be very calming. I was able to put my worry aside for a few minutes and simply enjoy a few moments of peace. All this being said, I appreciate and look forward to watching your videos each week, no matter the content. Enjoy your day. Sending much love and appreciation

I've known too many people who have lost children before their time. Now you. Of this Nothing can be said that will help. Nothing can be done that will soften this. No explanation will suffice. All we can do is grieve with you. But I do hope that someday Something funny she said Something noble she did Or something important she felt Will bring an easy smile. That will be a good day. All you can do After enduring such a loss Is all any of us can do: Press on in the way God insists we must: With dignity, honor, truth, generosity, kindness, & love.

One thing I've noticed over the years is that sometimes in our desire to help the environment, we forget that humans are part of that environment and should be equally considered. I've worked on a few organic farms run by Ivy League grads who showed real contempt for the poorer farmers who had grown up on farms their grandfathers and great grandfathers had run. The grads were outsiders who wanted to run things by their theories at the expense of the feelings and relationships of the "ordinary" people. I think activism has to be tempered with real love for even the people who do things differently.

I come from a family of farmers. No one works harder than a farmer and most people have no clue how important they are to the world. My father was not formally educated but I guarantee he forgot more about farming than any of those Ivy Leaguers. Personally I'm tired of people who thinks something that looks good on paper is actually good in practice :)

Beautiful and touching story. Poverty is so hard. I remember being very young and very poor. My parents and I lived in a two room furnished flat on the top floor of an old house. We all slept on the fold-out couch in the living room. My mother washed clothes in the kitchen sink and hung them out to dry on the clothesline outside the kitchen window. My toys were kept in a little cardboard box in the bottom of our only tiny coat closet. I didn’t know we were poor; it was just life as I knew it. Life gradually improved with my father’s hard work. Nothing good comes easily.

A good part of my clothes r second hand, and often those are the ones that get the most compliments. I really love the look of vintage items, too. Some things never go out of style. It's also good that places such as Good Will and Salvation army employ people and give them experience for other jobs. One store I visit whenever I go to Pueblo Colorado supports babies born in prison. You never know whose life you'll touch when you visit such places. I loved this video. In our consumer-driven society we could all stand to think more about what we buy and why we are buying it. Another point is taking care of what you have instead of buying more. My 98 year old grandmother cooked three meals a day for 80 years in a set of pans she got as a newly wed and they are still in good condition. I love to use them. Most of my things come with family memories.

Today my mother passed away and I got some pictures from friends with candles who told me that they have lit their candle for her and for me. Candles are so comforting and warm. I also keep in mind that I have to watch the candles in my living room carefully. Many years ago, when one of my daughters was a toddler, she came out of bed, joined my husband and me, sitting at the table, and put her little cloth right into the candle in front of my husband. The cloth was instantly on fire and the living room full of smoke. We were happy to have had a fire blanket close by. so I still enjoy my candles, especially today but I still have a fire blanket And your firefighter: He was your guardianangel. Thank you very much for your video.

More details ⬇️ Hello everyone, this is a chattier video that usual ❤️ I just wanted to share a bit about my experiences -> I will not speak this much in future videos, somehow this topic got me talking haha! Definitely the biggest unexpected expenses for me were car repairs and food (and candles 🕯apparently, lol). I have a small grocery store that cannot carry a lot of back stock, so the prices can be absolutely insane sometimes. The first month I was here I spent $400 on food for myself and was absolutely shocked!! I have now cut down on that in a big way (several hundred dollars less now) by buying in bulk when I visit a Costco and prioritizing very filling staple ingredients. This is an expensive state in general, so I am grateful to have a place to live and be able to work here full time. *Correction of my poor wording: Okanogan County is one of several lower income counties in the state, there were some slightly different rankings depending on the article you check :) this doesn’t really matter but I wanted to clarify anyway as my sentence came out weird. My goal is to own a home, so a big motivation for saving money in other areas is to be able to afford a down payment and assist in renovations of a barn on Luke’s parents property (our future home we hope!). Currently, I have a furnace and wild prairie growing around me so I don’t need to chop wood or maintain the property (thankfully). However, that will change once I move to a new place. Luke and I want to have children, so we are planning accordingly to be able to provide for them when the time comes. A lot of changes on the horizon, no doubt I will manage my money differently with a new home and life. I definitely had a scarcity mentality during a phase of my life when I felt less stable, so I have been slowly teaching myself to let go of that anxiety and believe that things we be ok, no matter what. You are not alone, worrying about the future and finances is not always be beneficial, you just need to keep working hard, live within your means, and manage the fear of the unknown ❤️ I moved to this county initially because I missed my family and needed a new job. My mother and father live in the valley too, so I absolutely love having them so near! It’s something I am so grateful for everyday. I did make a past video on how I make a living, and my story of how I got here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHqlq52rncaqmNU

How long have your parents lived in the valley? Were home prices better when they moved there? You've mentioned your area is a popular tourist destination. Does it have the same problem other tourist heavy areas do with people buying homes that sit empty large chunks of the year and are only used a few weeks or months out of the year or turned into Airbnb rentals?

I moved to a rural area 20 years ago because my husband and I could live there on our modest means. We loved the natural beauty and the quiet we found there but the isolation in the 6-7 months of winter was difficult. Also unfortunately, that rural community was so depressed that it made living there uncomfortable. The infrastructure was not good, so we could easily be without heat or power for days. It was hard to drive long distances to doctors as we aged as well as the 25 miles just to find a grocery store. Then when my husband got his cognitive decline diagnosis, I found out there was zero senior benefits for us in that area. That was a deal breaker for those of us who were older. I don't to be negative, but these are issues that need to be considered as one get older.
@soverato99
@soverato99 2 жыл бұрын
I agree with this very important point. Many people are drawn to the simplicity and beauty of living a rural lifestyle. I understand that completely. However, there are many logistical issues to consider when planning for a place to live, especially as we get older. I'm not comfortable being so far removed that if I needed ongoing medical care, much less an emergent situation, that resources could be many precious miles away. With the current cost of gas, this could greatly burden the monthly budget. I enjoy many hobbies but driving is not one of them. I drive out of necessity and if it means I'm in the car 45 minutes to 1 hour to get basic supplies, I'm going to feel resentful after a while. Having said that, if a person has the means, the time, reasonable good health, and the ability to plan ahead for any eventuality to live off the grid so to speak, then go for it. Our decisions are often based on our circumstances. Paola is a delightful young lady and this lifestyle clearly suits her and her husband (happy for them!!).
@OrangeNash
@OrangeNash 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, those issues need to be considered in the future, however , need right now we may have different issues to consider. Trying to plan ahead can be sensible, but there's a balance between the now, the short term future and the long term future. The risk is that those plans for a life of minimal discomfort in the future, prevent living the life that is possible now. Wanting control over the future, it's an illusion. Apologies for the bluntness, but one thing for sure is that we all wind up in the ground eventually, but that's no reason to lie in the ground now to prepare for it!

Well, on the subject of candles? I kinda, sorta have the same issue. I LOVE candles! I have a very large backstock of them. Probably about 50, at least. There is a definite reason for it though. Whenever I'm feeling stressed, sad, or drained from the day's activities I find lighting a lovely scented candle a huge comfort. My happiest place is with my crocheting, my Johanna Basford coloring books and colored pencils......and Candles. Its the simpler things that make peace and joy in our lives. I watch your videos pretty much every day now, and they have been a truly HUGE source of comfort. Being a front line worker can get really crazy, and even sometimes heartbreaking. I only wear natural fibers (cotton, linen, wool) and find some amazing used clothing items at specific thrift stores in my area, and I only buy an item if I NEED to replace the item. And even if an item has become unwearable after 10 years, I take it apart, cut in strips and make braided rugs or for quilts I make for others. Love the word Contentment, which I ponder when I sit outside and remind myself how blessed I am to know my needs are met and I have few wants. Since wants often denote 'stuff' I do not need.

I love the idea of minimalism, and right now I'm just starkly poor with advantages (roof over my head, food on the plate, my own bedroom/studio, most of the technology I need, skill sets and so on) but if I had more than enough (my own home, friends, business, LOVE?) I am sure I would prefer a fireplace (the work needed to keep it going) compared to enough money to run electric heaters to the perfect temperature and simply forget all of those people struggling to remain warm. Everything costs something, but every good deed costs selflessness, and I think we can often be the ones who need a good deed done for us, and thus minimalism is good, we cause ourselves to value truth and the security of self and others instead of wealth. I hope you're taking relaxing measures to prepare your heart for your son. :) God bless Dave from Canada

Thank you so much. Keep painting it's a wonderful gift from God. I'm praying that you and your fiance will have a blessed marriage. Hi, I'm Rafika from Algeria, I like so much your videos, you are grateful for all you do to share us your interesting videos. I'm really passionate by your kind of life. Me too I live alone, so I know that isn't easy to fight every day, to have the same life than the others. But , living alone, is so sweet when we know the merit of the persons and things around us. Thank you and good luck.

Aw. You made me cry today, Paola. You are so sweet and I am certain that your parents are very, very proud of you. You have a remarkable head on your shoulders for one so young. I have a 28 year old son who lives in a basement apartment that I know isn’t really safe. He knows we are available to him for help, but he is trying to make a life for himself and do things on his own. It is very difficult for a parent to stand by a little helplessly and pray a lot for things to be ok for our kids. I’m so glad that things are really working out for you in your, and a happy love story as well. Thanks for sharing with us. ❤️

We too live in one of if not the poorest county in our state. I discovered this area on a family camping trip in 1971. I longed to come back here and did so over the years. My husband and I bought a mobile home near a big lake and rehabbed it in 2001. We found a foreclosure on 7 acres in 2008 and rehabbed it over 12 years for our retirement. We looked forward to the serenity of a slower rural life. A single developer has turned the area upside down with upscale log homes on larger lots, then the greed and density set in. Now we have a multitude of subdivisions packed with homes (purchased by big city people) all facing each other on fake lakes polluted with lawn chemicals that people are swimming in. Our forested areas are no longer and our wildlife is being slaughtered as these creeps speed down our country roads. One even ran and fell dead in our back yard. This is the second such dead deer in our woods since we moved here. One summer season 7 dead deer were spotted within a one mile stretch of road. Its become a travel destination now with vacation rentals popping up all over. My heart aches for the beauty lost forever here and we dont have the years left to make another such move. Not to mention property values and taxes are skyrocketing for the less fortunate residents who moved here for the reasonable living costs. They are being driven out.most of these subdivisions are second homes. These new homeowners now are complaining there is no shopping. Sheer madness.

I, too, had to ask for financial help from my mama when I had absolutely no other alternative. I am such and independent (and yes, stubborn!) person and it was very hard for me to initiate that conversation. And I will be forever grateful for her help, which allowed me the opportunity to move into a safe and stable environment where, through hard work, I am able to fully support myself. Looking back, I see that decision to finally ask for help as being one of the bravest things I've done. Thank you for speaking so openly about your own experience, which resonated deeply with me!

You are so deserving of a new home for you and Luke and thank you for sharing with us as you do. Where I live, housing is very expensive - landlords upping the rents just because of the pandemic and people consequently losing housing because too expensive even for the dumpy ones and people losing jobs and now not either being able to go back to work either no jobs that fits their abilities or because of being too picky (i know a few like that) - I'm a senior citizen so I do have to watch my monies, income is not like when I was working making good money - didn't save as I had someone to rely on and now I don't - so my debt is one thing got to work on and trying - Paola, you are such an inspiration to all of us - even to this ole lady. Love listening to you and pray you you'll always be blest with your art and love for others. Til later....take care, stay safe and well. Yes, keeping cars in good drivable shape can be expensive but we need so we can go to grocery, pharmacy, and to work. ♥🤗

Your channel kept popping up on my KZbin's update videos everyday but I kept skipping it to choose the most trending of these days' topics or my daily interests. Until yesterday, an easy Sunday afternood before evening, I was bored with those world's trending news and celebrities' updates of showing their life styles, I didn't know I ended up click on one of your videos. It was so calming to me and I was so content with your personal beauty and how you've made your videos beautifully, I really enjoyed them. Now I am in another new path of my life. I've just quited my job that had been a big part of my life for 17 years. I also live in a country side, an hour away from the big city. I used to have a crazy hectic way of live when I still worked that I only had a little time for my self, my home, my pets, my plants, and the most important for God. Sometimes these days I feel so worry about my financial condition coz I'm still looking and considering what kind of job should I have to earn income. Since now I really enjoy being at home a lot, I guess I could do farming like planting hot chilly since people in my country (Indonesia) really like spice hot food. We never skip chilly in our dishes or meals, it's our just tradition and taste. Ofcourse farming is kinda a slow process to make money than working in a big city, but just like you've said I also conclude my self that our health especially mental health should come as our main priority in life. Just becoz we want to save or get a lot of money then we ignore what our body and soul need the most: peace. I feel that I couldn't keep up with a rush and fast city life anymore these days, especially after the pandemic. Even though the pandemic has been cooling down, many things have changed to new systems or ways, that's one of the reasons I quited my job. I can't stand to stay in the city too long with the covid protocols. Though I haven't reached my retirement age (more than a decade more to go), physically and mentally I felt so exhausted. So spending more time at home with my husband, pets, and garden in a suburbian area is good enough for me to cure my body and soul. I've realized that I've ruined them for more than 3 decades. Now I think it's okay to live under tight budget, it's okay to feel worry about money sometimes, it's okay just to wear old clothes, it's okay to see less people, but we can still be our selves, arrange our own time to work and to relax, enjoy our selves, and the most important to praise God more than ever who has given so much blesses in our live. Thank you so much Paola for your beautiful videos and for inspiring my soul. ~Love and frienship from Indonesia... 😻💝🙏
