How would you build a bike for me? Inseam 77 cm with shoes. Height 178 cm. So I have the leg length of someone 170 cm and the torso length of someone 185 cm. Also my arm length is that of someone 170 cm. So I'd probably need a riser stem. I don't race. I just want to ride long distances in comfort and not be too slow. The Ican Flyee for $1099.00 52 cm or 54 cm if I can stand over seems like a good choice for me. Both price wise and fit. I need a light frame and wheels because I live in the mountains and there are no flats. It is either uphill or downhill. Although there are no really steep climbs on my usual routes the mostly uphill sections can be 8 miles or longer. Also I'm thinking that a streetfighter build with flat bars might be best for comfort but I am not sure about that. So can you build me a hypothetical bike that will allow me to enjoy cycling? I'm not alone. There are plenty of people in my boat. Many of us do not partake of the sport because there are no industry standard bikes that fit us. Shoulder and wrist pain is the worst problem because of our short arms because we have to lean over too far putting too much weight on our arms.

DIY built custom speedplay Ti pedals weigh about 140g. I went with SRAM Red QUARQ powermeter crankset as I actually make use of 2x for hills. 3d printed handlebar ends weigh about 0.5g Carbonworks cages weigh about 6.9g + Ti bolts weigh about .6g each. 14 + 2.4 = 16.4g all in on cages. FYI, I've been switching wheelsets between my 2 12 speed shimano and sram bikes without removing cassette and they are 100% compatible with zero issues shifting after thousands of KM trials. Question: Do you find the Overfast axles lose torque over the duration of a ride? I have some for my Cannondale Supersix, and when torqued to spec (9nm) they didn't offer enough compression to keep the rear hub in place under heavy power (mainly sprints). The rear hub would slip. I got in contact with Overfast and they suggested torquing it to the maximum recommend (13nm). There are no more slips when sprinting, however after a ride I've found that they lose about 1-1.5nm of torque. I was advised that this is just how carbon behaves, given its more elastic than steel and will naturally have a bit more recoil when released from pressure/torque. Still, its a bit nerve-wracking for me that my rear wheel could come undone in a race!
@GCPerformance18Ай бұрын
wow that is crazy I have not heard of that, or experienced it myself, my sprints are like 1100 watts nothing crazy and I am also a heavy rider but I have not had my axles come loose, but I do not check them ever either so I can not confirm this, In my mind it doesnt make sense for them to do this, I would say to help with this not happening, get some blue loctite and put it on the threads of it, should hold it in place and it is easy enough to break free as well
@christopherdavies3982Ай бұрын
@@GCPerformance18 Thanks for the suggestion! It was definitely a feeling I hadn't come across before. Because of where the issue was occuring, the sensation was similar to riding a track bike when the rear cog hasn't been tightened sufficiently into the hub, and you accelerate quickly under heavy power and the cog "jumps" or screws itself quickly into place. On inspection of the dropouts and hub endcaps after the issue had occurred, I could see scoring of both, so it was definitely the hub coming loose. There was also a very unpleansant "fingernails on chalkboard" sound as it happened :( I'm no engineer but my theory is that when torqued to the recommend spec (7.5-9nm), the axles don't offer sufficient force to compress the dropouts and secure the rear hub under heavy power as the rear stays flex and move. I observed this to be the case under heavy power (1200+). As I said, its fine at 13nm, but I have observed a loss of 1-1.5nm of torque after even a Z2 ride. You can even observe a sample of this recoil behaviour when releasing torque from the axle. If you ever tighten the axle beyond 13nm, once you release it from torque you can see it slightly recoiling. Kinda weird? :/ Overfast advised me that they designed these to accept 15nm of torque before failure, but they don't recommend torquing it that much for regular use (perhaps because of the possibility some users may accidentally go above that). Anyway, something to think about if you ever experience the same thing. And great bike! hope to do something similar some day :)

Cybrei is reported to be getting ready to release a 24mm ti axle (shimano diameter) version of the crank. the weight should be similar at the expense of stiffness vs. the 29mm axle. Your cassette is definitely something i want to switch to at some point. my SL8 is 6.9 KG (with pedals, cages, computer mount and varia mount) but would like to get it down to 6.6. I have ultegra crank and cassette so those should do it. i'd love it if Cybrei or Elilee could offer a left side only power meter option!

Nice build but if this bike is set up for you the seat is too high, bars too low. I saw in another video you riding, your hips rock (saddle to high) and your arms are straight out when you hands are on the lever hoods, so handlebars are too low and possibly your stem is too long. I don't mean to burst your lightweight bubble but if you lost 10-12 pounds you would see better results than worrying about the bike weights. Tilting your seat lower in the front will also put too much pressure on your hands and possibly your perineum tissue as well and can lead to numbness and long term permanent damage to the nerves.
@GCPerformance185 ай бұрын
yea I am not tilting my seat too low, that is a negative 1 degree down, my fit is what I have always done, I started riding on a 58, but honestly I went to a 56 just because, if im riding bymyelf of filming or in group im usually relaxed and locked out for arms, the fit is aggressive for me but this is what I have always done and its from back when I rode more, before having kids like 7 years, I know it is a stretch but I ride for fun once twice a week right now and it feels great once going up at speeds, could I run a full stack and 100mm stem sure

A full water bottle still weighs 2+ lbs, lol. And I would never trust a carbon axle. I have enough trouble trusting carbon trouble trusting carbon handlebars.

To make an SL8 pro lighter than an S-Works you need to build it identical and just find 90g savings somewhere… 🤡

Then you dust off a Tarmac SL6 off and realize we've been marketed garbage.

The sl6 I’ll say will ride more stiff, what they perfected on the sl8 is the comfort. They took a lot of attributes from the aethos like the skinnier seat stays and the skinnier seatpost and the bike is so comfortable

Bruh, I shaved a tad over 30lbs off my total gross weight just by cutting out the sodas and junk food. But more importantly, gasp, what happened to the drive side chainstay?!

A lightweight bike with a 1x doesn't make any sense. This thing is only going to be used on the flats where weight makes absolutely no difference.

Again, it’s just for fun. The bike hobby is not all about performance, sometimes it’s fun to customize to your liking. Like a car on the road with speed limits. You don’t need 700 horsepower in a car for 45mph speed limits. But it makes the user happy and the overall experience more fun
