maaan it's a super personal issue but I've learned that 90% of my acne is hormonal. I try damn hard to keep it under control (products, diet, etc) but I'm working on learning how to simply accept that it's just gonna be like this for a while. if nothing else, I feel the benefits of eating well and treating myself with lovely products and a good self-care routine. Thanks for the recommendations, dear!
@ennette2717 жыл бұрын
Molly Owens I also have, well, had acne and it was all hormonal. No changes in my diet or products oder cleansing methods helped me in any way. So I went to a beautician and got my skin checked and she cleans me skin on a regular basis and now I only use four products (to take my make-up off, a serum, a moisturizer and a night balm, that's all). they're by a french company called Decleor. I simply used the wrong products, mainly the ones who strip your skin and usually are sold for "acne prone skin", but don't do any good. my skin has cleared up and I'm back to eating whatever I like (meat, sugary stuff and milk from time to time) and it's all good. I think there is a solution for everyone's acne and so there is for you.
@tinkier7 жыл бұрын
Annette Schimanski Thanks for the response! I have a pretty good regimen going but I like the idea of seeing a beautician for more options (and less experimentation)!

Molly Owens It surely helped me a lot. of course your skin and your problem might be different. but who knows... I just know how you feel right now, when nothing really helps. but good for you, that you keep a good diet. I just can't resist the "bad" stuff from time to time;)

@laurinedoliveira7 жыл бұрын
Molly Owens you know i'm just like you. and plus the fact that i'm taking care of my skin and health as much as possible the thing that helped a lot is that by the time I realize that the more i was busy doing things that makes me happy (working and taking care of many things other my skin) the less I had acne. I realize i was so focus on other things than myself/(watching my acne on the mirror and feeling bad), my skin was nice with me 😄 and the more I pretend to be okay with acne, the more my acne calms down... anyway.. just wanted to put outhere that hormonal acne is the worse. it's a daily battle with ourselves 😕 we just need to know ourselves and learn to feel good from within.
@JackEnglandd7 жыл бұрын
also, some tips she didn't mention that really do help - drink lots of water!! at least 64 oz a day, which is four 17 oz bottles! - clean up your diet - cut out a lot of your dairy intake, don't eat cakes and stuff like that, and eat a lot of fresh veggies and fruits! - get enough sleep, and wash your sheets regularly, especially your pillowcase!
@MissCofia337 жыл бұрын
Jack England yes! Taking out dairy has helped so many people clear their skin! Plus is great for your general health to not eat or drink too much of it. Also to use a exfoliator rat least two times a week to clear out the skin. Those always help me a lot!

For women in their twenties who have been struggling with acne for most of their lives, the first step is to realize that the cause of your acne is probably different now than it was in your teens. In my early twenties, I full on stopped using acne fighting products (like Ingrid recommends), but just using simple natural stuff didn't quite do it for me. If that doesn't work for you either, anti-aging products work like magic to clear up adult acne due to an ingredient called retinol! You may have been prescribed Retin-A when you were younger. Vitamin A derived ingredients (like retinol) work to fight both aging and acne. It does dry out your skin a bit and you MUST wear sunscreen as a last step before going outside. That's what cleared up my skin. :D

I've always struggled with acne. In high school (I'm 22 now) I had such bad acne that when I put on a pull over sweater over on my forehead it would bleed and it always looked red and inflamed. I tried everything and ended up going on Accutane. it saved my skin but it was extremely drying and I still have dry skin as a result. My skin has significantly cleared up but I have very deep pitted acne scars on my temples and for head and still get hormonal cystic acne which leave hyper pigmentation marks. There is never a dull moment when dealing with my skin, but it's always nice to hear similar stories from people I admire such as yourself.

******WASH YOUR PILLOWCASES!*********** Your skincare can be phenomenal but if, at the end of the day, you're putting your face on a pillowcase that's full of dirt, oil, bacteria, and hair products, that routine is basically worth nothing. I change mine weekly so that I minimize introducing that bacteria to my acne prone skin. The most cost-effective skincare tip I've ever gotten that I feel obligated to pass along. Hope this helps!

Ingrid, this was so helpful. I've had cystic acne since I was about 13 years old, and did a cycle of Roaccutane whilst I was in high school. I'm 21 now and my acne is back in full force. One thing I've been doing recently is having a teaspoon of Maca powder every morning, just mixed with a little water - it's supposed to balance out your hormones. Since I didn't want to go on the pill, I thought I'd give it a go. It's been about two weeks and I'm already noticing a difference in my skin.

I didn't get breakouts until I was in my 20s, so I had to completely change my skincare routine JUST as I got comfortable with one. I had to change my shampoo, conditioners, washing powder on my bedding, some makeup products, and pretty much everything that irritated my skin and the breakouts. I find having my hair up when I'm at home is really useful to not get extra oils and dirt on my face and I'm obsessed with the Lush "Angels On Bare Skin" face cleanser as well as the Liz Earle range

Ingrid's videos are so calming, I love it Also: I notice a lot of people in the comments saying to reduce your dairy intake. That does help a lot, just make sure that you take calcium supplements if you do that. Women's bodies absorb significantly less calcium after menopause, so get plenty now to prevent osteoporosis. That is all my lovelies

I've found that the simpler i keep it, the more consistent i am w/ the products i'm using - the better the results. I used to read SO much online and felt like i needed all of it at once. And it never worked. Now i'm sticking with the Body Shop's Aloe daily moisturiser, Vitamin E night cream, Drops of Light shower cleanser (everything very very gentle). I remove the first layers of my makeup with Garnier micellar water before going for the Drops of Light. Lots of water, lots of fruits and vegetables, and the texture of my skin had been rapidly chaning for a while now. I do get harmonal break outs, but i just sort of.. learned to tolerate them? Although the tea tree oil does help a lot.

The simple moisturizer is the best. It's a hydrating gel cream. I have dehydrated skin so dry that it's oily. When I started using a richer moisturizer, my skin cleared up. I've been looking for a makeup remover that's thorough and doesn't leave raccoon eyes. Totally gonna try the Clinique balm!

I found once i started using natural products (without parabens, silicones, and other harsh chemicals) my skin cleared up to the point where I don't even wear concealer or foundation day to day. I use tea tree oil as a spot treatment and it's amazing! I definitely agree that all the acne products i was using before were making my skin worse!
@katculbertson24447 жыл бұрын
For my combination-skinned, acne-prone peeps who are scared of moisturizer or maybe have had some bad experiences with various moisturizers like I have, the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel is so perfect! It feels so good on the skin (not greasy at all) and it just soaks right up and makes your face so SMOOTH. Instead of pushing my skin to the oily or rough ends of the combination-skin seesaw, it actually feels like it's balancing my skin out. Smells good too. Especially if you are using any harsh acne products or clinical topical treatments, the gel is a great thing to always put on right after those products to prevent over-drying. It's the only non-drugstore product I use, and it's $27 for the full size, so definitely not an Ingrid-level splurge. I know a lot of people have known about this moisturizer for a while, but just in case anyone hasn't: it's basically my favorite skin thing of all time and has actually helped clear my acne, which is crazy for a moisturizer.

Apple cider vinegar! Working at Sephora made me try a myriad of products in the (seemingly) never ending search for clear skin. The products that helped the most were-- hydrating potions (I used to dry the heck out of my skin), precleansing like Ingrid, the foreo, origins original skin serum, peels (chemical exfoliation), and shaving my face (physical exfoliation). The thing that got rid of all of my texture (all raised comedones), redness, the minimal breakouts that I had, dark spots, dullness, and dehydration is apple cider vinegar. I dilute 2 tablespoons into a 4 oz bottle and wipe it on my face after cleansing morning and night. ACV is detoxifying and sanitizing the skin while keeping it balanced and my moisturizer goes in better! I've only been doing it for about a month but after one use I saw clarity. A real life saver.
