You did an amazing job, and so professional looking! The reason you cannot highlight your white hair (until you color it blond) is because white hair has no pigment in. When you put bleach on your hair to highlight it, it’s stripping color from the hair and that’s how you get the highlight. White hair has no color to strip, so you end up with no change, except when you color it first. When you color it with the box dye, you’re depositing color into the white hair and then are able to strip some of it out to get your highlights.

You're hair looks beautiful! I feel the same way about wanting to look younger. I was just telling my husband the other day about how I would get some "procedures" done if I could (financially). I told him that everyone acts like it's so terrible that you want to look younger or have these procedures and that you should just embrace aging. Well, I am aging no matter what and I am thankful for that but, I still want to look nice. I asked him what person wants sagging or hollowing skin, discoloration, fine lines and wrinkles? No one! I've never heard anyone say they wanted that. I want to live a long, full life but, I also want to look good along the way.

I also use the Revlon medium ash blonde for my roots and a week later I go with a couple blonde shades lighter and just tip that in my hair. Hi Jen, I just love you! I have been using the routine that you have explained in this video to dye my hair and I am very happy with the results. One question for you.. after you leave the dye in your hair for 30mins ... do you wash out the dye with your Shampoo that you are recommending... or do you just rinse it out and condition your hair? I absolutely LOVE it. I do the same with my hair, though my 40 year old roots come in brown, so I just straight highlight it with foil. I overlap the bleach exactly like you do the last 3 minutes. I just love your personality. 🥰 And I'm definitely gonna check out that deep conditioner .

This just gave me more confidence to do mine as I also hate sitting at the salons and risks getting striped no matter what. I actually just got “pumpkin spice” (supposed to be blonde but is orange) hair I’m going with for the fall 🥴 because I only get my hair done every 3 mos. I watched your video and it helped me build up the courage to do my own roots! Last night I used Colorsilk dark ash blonde to cover my white roots. I didn't even need to add extra highlights. My blonde highlights blended perfectly with the root color.

I have the dark ash blonde that I bought a few weeks ago so I’ll use that in a couple weeks when I do my roots, I also have white roots but just on the crown area so my color is very similar to yours! You’re correct on not being able to highlight your unpigmented hair. You have to deposit color and then lighten that artificial color. You got it! Smart woman!

I have a lot of white my base is pretty dark in the back like a 7 or 6 i have highlighted my hair since age 15 always been blonde i dont feel like me if its too dark! Im 64 and having trouble covering the white im going to try the revlon and i usually do 7n with 8n its ok but i bet ash is better to cover white. Thank you so much ! You look beautiful. I always look forward to your tips, how you put yourself together and you certainly look amazing! I am 53 and I definitely looked better 10 years ago. I looked my best under 30 though. I had a natural glow, flush and cute plump baby fat in my face, my eyes were bigger. I have no problem admitting that. God made it that way for a reason. Jennifer do you find that you need to protect your lengths when you rinse your root color? I find that my bleached hair catches the dark blonde when i rinse them. So now I have to put lots of coconut oil on my length...I have to say that you look gorgeous with the dark blonde root around your face...just my preference. Do you get your over all hair that blonde without highlights, and just with the revlon dark ash blonde?

I do my hair exactly the same and have for years. I actually use a light ash brown on my root and then use bleach with only 20 volume and process for 30 minutes or so. It always comes out good and I have paid too much at hairdressers for my color and it wasn't exactly what I wanted. I do wait 48 hours after coloring to bleach to get natural oil back at my scalp. Yours looks really good.

Gorgeous and wonderful! Now I feel so empowered to do this myself! Question...does the Colorsilk have bleach or peroxide in it? My hair is naturally blonde, and I just want to cover the gray, not lighten it, and I don't want to overprocess it. But I am also excited to add a few little lighter "money pieces". By the way...I'm glad I'm not the only person who hates going to salons, etc. They stress me out also, and the whole time I'm wishing I was at home! Well, now maybe I don't have to go to the hair salon. I even learned how to give my long hair a blunt cut trim on youtube!

Your hair turned out beautifully. I know what you mean about salons. I just had my hair colored. Four hours later and $175.00 less in my bank account I was so unhappy with the results. I let the stylist know I was unhappy and I went back for a “re-do”. It took 3 hours and I still don’t like it. Next time I will have my hair done with a different stylist or maybe even attempt to do my own hair color. Thank you for your videos.

I always apply the Kiss Impress press-on nails, but I glue them on for reinforcement with Kiss nail glue. They usually last around 5 days. ❤😘

Yes I know *EXACTLY* what you mean about it sometimes taking days to get the right hair.... I used to be a hairstylist, had my own salon & everything, I'm much happier *NOT* doing hair now, except my own (& some family) I was always telling people the cheaper DIY way to do things, not smart when trying to run your own salon.... Anyway.... I *don't trust anyone* with my hair or manicure/pedicure too.... But heck yeah, I'll enjoy a random massage now & then... Anyway.... I've been lightening my own hair since the age of 14 (waay older now) & used the exact brand you used for a long time, recently I've been stressing about my grey & did *NOT* feel like putting extra work into my color, so I started looking for other options... They all had me rolling🙄🙄 my eyes 'till I found yours!!.... OMG thank you so much this will 100% work *very well for me* & no, nobody would ever think "box dye" ever touched your hair. It looks classy & exactly the shade I've always been, *THANKS* again👍💕

It's funny becasue I've never been a stylist, but my sisters, and daughter all let me cut and highlight their hair. 😄 My mom lets me cut hers. I've gone though so much trial and error with my own, I pretty much know how to fix every mistake that could be made.😂 My younger sister and I have the same white growth, so she just uses the dark ash blonde and that's it. She prefers a darker blonde. But where her white hair grows in more concentrated, it actually ends up looking like like highlights once the color fades a bit. She used to get her roots done almost every 3 weeks and she says it looks exactly the same now that she does it herself. I hope this works out for you too! ❤😘

I get my hair colored blondeish. I let it grow out during the 2years things were shut down. My natural color is such a hodgepodge. The hair around my face is “platinum” 😂 and the rest is dirty dishwater! When hubby asked me one day if I was going to color my hair again I knew it was time! 🤣🤣 I don’t have the patience anymore to do it myself but you look beautiful!

Hi Jenifer, I am not a hairstylist but I use wella kolestron blonde color, it will give you a nicer lighter blonde and has toner built in so you may no need to bleach. It also lasts for my greys. Thank you for your lovely videos. You are beautiful inside and out!

No idea what you mean about ash roots first then bleach but nice and 20 vol would work too even for the box dye,you could buy your own peroxide to use with the box dye as 30 then 30 again with bleach is not necessary plus 50 is not ageing yet😅I'm 50 lol but wanna be 20😂😂🎉

Exactly! Love this!! I was also wondering about your seemingly lighter hair. I too need to color my grayish roots about 1 month out, Revlon med ash, but my front roots always feel so dark afterwards. I usually do the same, next day, add a few highlights front strands (45 minutes to develop or I have orange). Question: Have you ever tried a blonde (platinum) root cover powder to highlight those areas around your face? I've seen an ad (can I say, WOW) a powder root touchup and it looks great! (online) Just wondering if you've tried that for an instant highlight? That would probably be too easy!😆Thank you!!🥰

I actually did buy a viral hair powder product I saw called Boldify. The girl actually bought it in white and added platinum highlights to her already blonde hair. I tried it and it did work, but as you brush or run your fingers through your hair, they no longer look like individual highlights. Instead, all of the surrounding hair just appears lighter, so you get an overall lighter look rather than individual highlights. Also, the white works best on already light blonde hair. Gives it that baby-light look. Doesn’t look as good on darker hair. Just kinda looks like white powder on darker hair. 😂❤️😘
