I have to agree with the other comments. I find that the switching action and the commentary are the reason I continue to watch the channel. Often times you will hit a nerve that makes me think about something I hadn't considered. I also read the Craftsman article from Lance and, like you, always enjoy his view. So, my comment is keep up the great work and don't change a thing. I appreciate it all!

I like Lance his approach but I like yours at least as much! His layout matches his style of presenting and your layout matches yours, so please keep it that way. I think we all like it’s both genuine. When I’ll do mine it will be different as well, but you both inspire me. Keep it like you’re doing now and I’ll keep watching! -1- Sebas

Look forward to your friday update. I think what impresses me is you have such a good eye for creating something that is visually pleasing, then do a good job of making it fun to watch with angles positioning and use of the actual trains. Also note great use of vertical breaks (trees, poles, signs etc) to break up the view and make the space seem greater. As to the 'chit chat' it's fine. Some of the logic behind the moves makes me tear my hair out, but wth, you are having fun. And like i said your cinematography is very good. My layout was designed for many ops, and with that you worry about cut-offs, connections and keeping the main line clear. With a branchline you loose most of those issues and that stress. (But also the interaction and challenge) cheers

I’ve got four industries and a team track on my freelance industrial layout and I almost put in another but really wanted to avoid cluttering it with too many industries but I love abandoned rail scenes so I’ve got an abandoned tanker industry and another paved siding that’s also abandoned, it makes sense with industrial layouts because through the years businesses come and go

Hi Rick. My 2 cents, your layout/video’s are great. As a professional railroader and a fan of the SP, the layout perfectly captures the LA railroad scene. Breaking the layout down into separate switching districts is brilliant. Keep doing what you’re doing. Cheers!

Seems like your coupling is getting smoother, nice throttle control👍 Good discussion too. I like the part about finding your style. I think it's important to be yourself and let that come through in the video. You do a good job of that. If someone is not authentic, I think viewers can sense that. I like how you've setup the industries on your layout. Doesn't look crowded, but lots of options. See ya next Friday 😉

been awhile since we were in this area - I note that the scenery detailing has matured from what I remember so you must have been playing around while not on camera! Looks very good Engineer Rick

I model kind of what I grew up with and saw and that was very rural. Pennington and Hopewell NJ area. Neither are big cities but interesting little towns back in the 50's/60's. I picked businesses - not industries. Things like where individuals would bring their wares like milk, pickles, meats, etc. to be loaded onto RR cars for transport to the big city. Even have a small temporary cold storage building to hold stuff over until the next cars get dropped off. Coal and fuels dealer. All small stuff. HO scale. Nothing on a mainline but shortline style. 8x12 room with the layout along 3 walls and 2 foot width to the platform sections.

There's buildings in Vegas that look a lot like your builds and in background. That's cool, they must be very similar out there.

I agree with you . The variety of industries keeps the switching moves interesting, And agree with one of the post about finding your own style. The hobby is about having fun, so you should do with it as it pleases you. In saying that when people talk about the track to scenery ratio. I say that is all well and good if you are fortunate enough to have a thousand square foot layout room. I built my layout to run trains, so it will have a lot of track. My layout is centered around trains and a lot of switching. Thanks for the ops session, and the discussion.

I like all formats except the over use of music , your industry to track is spot on to my tastes. In modeling it’s all about compression. On my rr I have huge industry, paper mill that takes a whole peninsula with the rest of the layout smaller industries, I’m also modeling 50s which gives more options for smaller spots.

How about, just one BIG feature industry down there at the end you're not sure what to do with. Some sort of big factory that takes multiple tracks and multiple car types to serve. Maybe like an orange juice processing plant? Reefer traffic out on one track, a truck entrance for oranges coming in, and a track for corn syrup tankers? 🤔 Just a thought, but a big feature industry for the layout would really be cool.

I'm surprise that LA Co. FF Chet Kelly didn't retire and get a job with UP. Of course, Johnny and Roy didn't really like working Chet. At least Johnny Gauge couldn't stand Chet Kelly. I don't know Marco Lopez or Mike Stoker. One episode of Emergency. Capt. Stanly had Chet move a cut of cars from a boxcar the collided with a trailer full of turpentine or some flammable material. Like you, I respect Lance greatly. But as he himself will say, it's not industries but spots that matter. And the industries/spots ratio varies greatly depending on the era and location one models. So really what it comes down to is you should decide what you want to do operationally BEFORE you build your layout. The Catch-22 is that you won't really know what you want to do until AFTER you build your layout! So my lesson is that when you take up this hobby be ready to change everything continuously. This is why they say no model railroad is ever "done," P.S. I'm not hiding in my basement! Okay, I am.
