Yes, the sticker does it! I have a 81 Chevy c10 stripper, that was owned by a little old lady landscaper since new. She wasn't a old lady in 1981, but she worked in the truck until 2019 when I bought it, Second owner, Hah!. It was a stripper in white with a 6 cylinder and 3 speed on the floor with less that 80,000 miles She sold it to me for $1000. I've been fixing it up (new clutch, drivers seat, fixing rattles, and dynamat!!). Its kinda ugly due to a bed crash in 2005, but, It runs great and its full for metal for recycling now. I've been a ford guy all my life, but, against my will, this is my third chevy truck somehow. The trucks name is Ralph. Thanks for what you do Paul. I watch your videos for calming respite from my car repair jobs.. I do classics too, Ralph counts..

That's such a great backstory for the truck - also, very glad you were able to recover so well from the stroke. That year was back in a time when GM was still making a good truck. That was a really good, reliable engine, and a proper Allison transmission (not that "Allison branded" stuff you find in the modern trucks). I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if you get another 200K out of her. But regardless of the mechanical details, it's that story and personal connection that will always make the truck special. :)

In the early 2000's I worked for a company that did brush control for utility companies and we used Chevrolet one-ton trucks... we took them to places like yours and worked them HARD! They always held up and routinely went over 200K miles with very little trouble. The fact I survived a high-speed multi-vehicle collision in a 2004 is a testament to how well they were built!

Repair of head liner. Pull the head liner out and get some 3M spray glue, pull the fabric off and spray the board then reapply the fabric. Easier with two people but will look great, last a long time, and keep it off your head 😉. Some people even just rip it out and paint the board. Have fun 👍 Mike

Our vehicles are just as important as any other tool we have. Get one right and it makes all the difference. Mine is a 89 Freightliner with 2.6 million miles on its b model Cat. Never left me stuck or ever been on a tow hook, it certainly had issues over the years, but never lost time and always got the loads in and got itself to the shops. Even when the rear end differential bearings failed, it still finished a full weeks worth of work under normal load, heh. So if your truck is Archimedes, are you the lever, or the fulcrum, heh.

I think that this is really hard to believe Paul, but as the old saying goes, you gott'a do what you gott'a do. One thing that I did notice though is that head liner. My '79 suburban had the same problem. The spray adhesive used to hold the liner up failed and the whole liner sagged. I tried to fix it but my puny try didn't work. A professional was needed. Anyhow, good video.
@brendamcdaniel1958 Жыл бұрын
Remove the hard board (headliner) lots of trim to remove to access the board removal and then using a wire wheel or wire brush or both maybe even some sandpaper to remove the padded foam that has separated from the fabric so you can start with a clean smooth surface very important it’s clean (like any job the prep work is the hardest and most important thing to the end result) then using contact adhesive evenly spray the board and the back of the new headliner fabric evenly. It might need a second coat you have to be the judge. Wait for the glue to setup and with another set of hands place the fabric over the board. The objective is to try and not stretch the fabric but allow it to lay flat and straight. Not always easy to do depending on the board. Rubbing it down firmly, trim the edges and reinstall. My brother used to do them for $120 bucks including the fabric almost twenty years ago. Sure beats that fabric flopping around your head as your going down the road it’s annoying for sure. That’s what I would do you do whatever is best for you.

I've always considered myself to be a Ford guy too. So 10 years ago, the Ford F350 DRW, crew-cab that was my daily driver, died. I needed something now. Not only did I drive it to/from work, it also was used to pull my 5th-wheel camper, which is why I chose the dually, for stability. I search around a bit, but all the used Fords I could find were already worn out and way over-priced. Then I found this 2005 Chevy 3500 DRW 4x4. Price was about right so I bought it. Gas engine, 8.1L of fuel sucking power. 6 speed Allison auto tranny, posi rear end but no locking front diff, darn it. It had just over 100K miles on it when I bought it. Now it up to 180K and still runs like it did 10 years ago. The cab is showing it's age. Here in salt country,,,Iowa,,,anything will rust eventually.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that you sell the farm for this one, but its one to think about. The model I was just looking at was a Mercedes Unimog. I have to admit, I've never even seen one like this before but it would anywhere, I mean ANYWHERE. The tires alone are ~ 4 feet tall. I think that it is ~ 1feet from ground to top of the cab. I went through two Chevy cars in 4 months. Than I got a cord escort drove that like I stole it. After some years I blown the clutch I traded in for a new ford. They scoped the engine because no clutch the dealer loved the car and stiffed me not so bad on trade. And I seen it running a for years after.
