In terms of priority and reflecting on the “worst case scenario” - I actually find it more helpful to think about the “realistic scenario”. Like, what is most likely going to happen if I don’t get this done? It prevents me from catastrophizing which is usually my default mode lol Likewise thinking about the best case scenario helps me get motivated
@hellomayuko
@hellomayuko 2 жыл бұрын
Dude that is gold advice. Catastrophizing can be really intense sometimes and definitely isn't the healthiest thing since it's a pretty extreme form of negative reinforcement.

@@hellomayuko Mmmm whoa I had never thought about it in terms of positive / negative reinforcers. That's a great tie in. Yeah and I'm not disagreeing with what you said in the video btw - I just find the slight vocabulary change helpful haha

Some thoughts of mine as I'm getting old (at age 57) to get the things done: 1) Stop doing low-priotiry things or put them in queue (to forget), 2) As you're getting old you can get less things done with the same amount of time, and 3) OTOH, you still actually can get things done when you stay enough focused onto the things. Appendix: 4) don't waste your time on things you really don't feel like to do.

I find prioritizing rest helps. I've been on the edge of an autistic burnout for years. I know I can't afford that again because it happened before. Faith and rest are doing me a lot of good these days. And nurturing my close relationships.

The way you convey your learnings about self-care and escape from burn-out has really helped me fix a little bit my own overly strict and self-boicoting inner voice. Since several chronic health issues have kicked in, it’s difficult to learn to be an adult and stop thinking I’m a failure as my standards expected me to turn into an inhuman level of superhuman. So that means lowering my expectations to a human level and then reminding me my human type has some special needs to take into account. I see a lot of myself in you, so the way you tell yourself you are trying your best and that you shouldn’t do things the unhealthy way really resonates with me and I think it’s been easier to notice my innervoice turning self-destructing easier. Thanks for sharing your journey

Prioritizing has been a super helpful too for me too. Time blocking is another one I use all the time. I sit on Sunday with my google cal and block out time for studying, side projects, assignments, etc. It gives me a good birds eye view of what my week will look like. But it also lets me see if I am spending too much time in one are or not too much in another (like self-care! I need to get better at putting a bit more time towards that).

Right now, I'm in my senior year of college and I'm juggling an internship, part time job, school clubs, recruiting, and course work. It's a lot but I'm not alone, I know plenty of my peers who are balancing loads of things. I genuinely think being an adult and just having one job to think about is less stressful than being a student applying for a job.
