In this video, I will show you EXACTLY how I built my credit score to almost 800 points within the past few years.
Regardless of whether or not you plan on using credit/loans to leverage money, I believe that having a high credit score is an asset that is worthwhile to obtain.
Having a high credit score can allow you to land low-interest loans on home mortgages, auto loans, personal loans etc..

Credit score is not something used in all countries though. In France, they determine if you are eligible to get a loan (e.g., to buy a house) based on the ratio between your salary, your expenses and your savings. Basically, if every month you 'burn' all your money, you're perceived as riskier than someone earning less but consistently making deposits to a saving account. I feel in the US people tend to buy things they don't need with money they don't have... The only times I feel one should need a credit is when buying 'big' things (house, car, etc.). Not for a TV. I’m 26 with over 800 credit score, time was put into that to build it up by COGNITIVEHACKS

This is so interesting. Our credit works completely different. All you need for "good credit" is to pay things on time (like your phone bill, electricity bill, if you do have loans or credit cards). Your borrowing power is based on how much credit you already have and how much you make (we seem to have stricter lending laws), so they wont lend to you if they dont think you can service the loan (so if you already HAVE credit, thats actually a negative to borrowing more). And everyone is able to get the same interest rate, its not personalized (though i imagine you can call and negotiate in some instances). I would be really curious to see you review the barfoot investor book. i think that would be super interesting.

I stop using autopay because some credit card offer low balance cancellation. Like discover cancels $1.99, Capital one cancel $0.99, Us bank cancels $0.99. So what I do is remember which card I use and pay it off early. Unless it’s a card with low balance cancellation which I pay everything except the small balance they will cancel.

Haha, I got my first credit card with a $1000 CAD limit last year shortly after I turned 18 from my bank. My biggest tip is to call to ask when your credit card billing cycle is so you don't end up making *2 months worth of purchases in a single billing cycle.* As I have a 21 day grace period between when I receive the credit card bill to it's final due date; this got me into a little bit of trouble with my overspending habit that I've since curved. For me, I spend around $250 - $350 CAD a month on transportation, food, art supplies, and misc expenses; but in the first few months that easily went up to $600 - $650 CAD. Simply because I wasn't aware my billing cycle at the time restarts on the 27th of each month. I only received this information after I called to ask the date of my current billing cycle for the credit card that I upgraded to a few months back. Said billing cycle is now on the 11th of each month. Now that I am aware of when my new billing cycle starts, its become a whole lot easier to budget accordingly and stay withing the $250 - $300 monthly spending range.

how did you get a 1k credit limit on your first card? I was getting rejected by everyone. Ended up being accpeted by Capital One but they only gave me a £200 credit limit
@IshikaShanai
@IshikaShanai 4 жыл бұрын
@@michael43567 The first credit card I applied to rejected me as well, it was a Walmart master card. I was with my current bank for a few years before I applied for a credit card and I did so online. After I filled in the application, I was automatically offered the $1000 limit for a credit card that I applied for which had an initial $500 limit. This was probably because of some of these factors: I've never had over drafts or missed payments (I've also had a business bank account before this). Anywho, now that you have obtained a credit card, first off, congratulations. Now if you have a current source of income, you can request a credit limit increase on your current card either online (if Capital One offers this, my bank does, but yours may not yet) or simply call them to ask for them increase your limit. There's going to be some questions about your income, household, and employment information (hence why I said if you have a current source of income). I'm pretty sure that as long as you have earn enough/have a cushion every month for your expenses on your card and have paid it in full every month; you should be approved. Though, as I don't work for a bank, I cannot guarantee anything with certainty.

make payments on your card more than once a month. every week or even every day if you can. this also avoids interest. i do this and i'm 21, have 2 lines of credit and my score is the same as yours and keeps going up.

Starr Interesting, I hear this is only applicable if you keep a balance on your card/have debt, perhaps...otherwise doesn’t get calculated into your score; It, feasibly, might benefit credit utilization rates, but mine are so low it would have a negligible difference if any. I also don’t pay interest as I pay in full, on time, every month. Out of curiosity, why do you have two lines at 21 and what’s the length of your credit history?

Excellent video Nate, this is so important for everyone. No one ever teaches this but it should be required in education. My utilization stays around 1% but that’s because I have a 101,000 credit limit and my credit score is 778. I pay off all my credit card bills and never carry a balance unless I need to purchase a big ticket item. In that case I usually apply for a no interest card and pay it off before the end of the promotion. As always, thanks for the info.

I like the idea of more reliance on credit scores for the fact that great credit helps in recessions, cheap home and vehicle payments during times when wages can fall. When ur living equal to ur means just based on salary from wages and never built credit it's harder to get by during recessions and can potentially suffer great losses, whereas foreseeing how credit should be given credit for times in such a case. Low baller payments help.

Don’t even wait for the hill to arrive before paying the bill for the items you charge. Save the receipts for the items you buy, tally up the amount at the end of each week and just send that amount right away. If you want to be even more on top of this, tally up and send the payment daily. It’s so easy with online banking. Sometimes the payment can post before the charge even posts.

One strategy I use with my credit cards is I will pay the whole balance as soon as I get payed (biweekly) so when it comes time for the credit card company to check my utilization it’s usually pretty low, they only check the balance utilization around the time they post your balance due. So you can technically spend more while utilizing less (only if you have the cash to support it!!)

Yes, it is difficult for young people to have stratospheric credit scores because of the length of credit history factor. I am 64, retired for over 14 years, and my scores (depending on the reporting agency) have been in the 834 to a perfect 850 range for over a year, now. But then my credit history spans over 40 years. When my spouse and I bought a slightly used car a year ago, the alternate scoring system had both of us at the perfect 900 score, and the loan officer said: “I have never seen a score that high!”

Once I paid it off I’d apply for a credit card from a credit union & mostly use that one. I would on occasion use the first credit card to keep it active & my current score is 806. I would say just do only 1 credit card in your life & you will probably be okay.

I don’t have anyone to turn to for help, I’ve been trying to save but I can’t because of bills and renting my apartment and everything. But this, literally helped me look to a brighter future. My grandma is crippled so she cannot do work or anything. Most people have parents to turn to but I don’t talk to my mom or dad. This literally helped me so much because since i met COGNITIVEHACKS the real issue i have about debt was solve in some weeks am sure before Feb of my birthday i will be home owner.

VERY well done ! I say this with 40+ years in mortgage finance & banking working with credit bureaus. Different models and parameters are used by different industries but COGNITIVEHACKS info is pretty much universal. If you're trying to max your credit scores, there is a happy medium between too many credit cards and none. Too many cards with zero balnce may actually hurt you in some cases. Even if you do not use them, you have a potential. To always pay cash & still have cards doesn't help your scores as well

Ok so if I have a credit line of 250 can I use 100 once pay it off, then use it it again multiple times in a month? Will that n good or bad for my score. I hope you will reply.
@ajh.4131
@ajh.4131 2 жыл бұрын
No! That will hurt your credit. You’d be using almost 50% of your credit line. Truthfully speaking, if your credit line is only $250, you probably shouldn’t have a credit card right now. You’d only be able to use $75 or less to stay under the recommended credit utilization ratio of 30%. My advice would be to work on raising your credit score another way (on time payments if you have any loans) and wait until you’re eligible for a credit card with a higher limit. Just don’t be reckless.

This guy knows NOTHING about credit building the most efficient way and almost anything about credit besides the rehashed garbage you can easily google. Goto credit forums to get your up to date info and not this garbage vid. This guy has no idea what hes talking about and gives BAD advice "I don't like having a lot of credit cards" - spoken like a true pleb. No one cares what you don't like, you need more tradelines to factor in not only Age of Credit, and Total age of new accounts and credit limit across all cards and other algo defeating stats. This guy should NOT be making any more credit videos and should stick with adsense click bait

Nate FYI Capital One decided to remove $30,000 worth of credit because I was not using the card enough. This was after a very long time with them. I always paid off the card and was making more money. This reduction in available credit lowered my credit score. I called and they could give a shirt. This is unfair IMO and I tell everyone do not use Capital One. There is nothing fair in the credit reporting game.

And would I be never stop sending a good compny COGNITIVEHACKS to my friends and people I know regarding any credit situations

honestly, it sounds harsh to say that. but the reality is, it can very very difficult to date someone with bad financial habits when you are someone that has a lot of financial literacy and good spending habits. it would be ideal to help out that person you like so they can be better with money too, but sometimes thats just not possible. I have a friend who is fantastic with money, saves, invests, lives below his means and all that jazz who is getting serious with someone who is I believe about $300k in debt and still spends luxuriously.

It is a system that is designed for you to fail while making lenders rich. They penalize you for applying for credit, for spending too much of what they loaned to you even when paid in full on time, for not having borrowed enough from multiple lenders, for not using the credit enough even though if you use too much of that amount they will dock you points..etc. etc. It is designed for you to fail because that is how they get rich off of you with the higher interest rates.
