I'm always trying to get at why. Why did you have sales so soon? The two key factors that seem most important to starting a store with early sales are number and niche. How many items did you open your store with, that's a big factor for few reasons. I've heard of people starting with 20 all the way up to opening with over 100 listings. The niche competitiveness matters a lot too. A super hot niche with low competition, and you can get sales with 20 listings, where more competitive niches seem to need at least 100 listings before sales even start. About how many listing did you start with and what kind of hotness and competitiveness is your niche? You seemed to have done one or the other (or both) quite well!

Great tips Taylor! Im new on my Etsy journey, your video is motivating. ❤ 1) Daily activity (new designs, quality optimised researched well listings, branding the shop, consistency to set up for long term success), 2) Double down on what is working (niche/designs to mugs tote bags, focusing more in niches working well using same Seo), 3) Free versus paid shipping hybrid (combine items within niches to meet 35usd threshold free shipping guarantee to attract multiple orderz) , 4) Using Etsy adds to speed up the process to see if listings are viable, low budget 1, 3, 7 on successful items)

Your Etsy journey is amazing to me. I just started in August 2023 and simply put I’m just not that smart but I put in work everyday and continue to get better at listings, designs and still suck at SEO . It’s a process that would take me longer I suspect. You are my perfect example of how I would love to achieve my goals. I’m a retired nurse starting at 67 and am very stubborn and will not quit, until goals are reached. Love your strategies! 😊

This is great info and I'm super happy you have made a success of your online store. The one thing I would love to see from you, (and other Etsy sellers on KZbin) is an actual profit number in addition to a revenue number. I think it would be helpful to future sellers to see what they really have to sell in order for Etsy to be a business rather than a side hustle.

So glad you talked about your hybrid shipping strategy in this video. My POD shop is only two months old and no sales yet (family orders don’t count😂). The $35 guaranteed free shipping policy has been tricky for me to try to figure out pricing and profit for items that naturally need to be priced higher than $35. For example, adding $8.19 shipping into the cost of a sweatshirt makes the listing price so much higher than the competition and leaves no room for discount… I was really wanting to know how other sellers deal with it. It’s reassuring to learn that you do the same. A couple other questions are: would it be correct to say that you have a general store that’s filled with research-based niched-down products? Do you have a target customer in mind? Any suggestions on branding strategies for a general store? I’d love to see a video on these topics. Thanks again for the valuable content you create and knowledge you share! Your Etsy success is truly impressive!

Hi Taylor! Congrats on your success and all your hard work, that is awesome!! So cool that January was your best month, that is amazing! March 500 sales!! Such a cool notification to receive and to be proud of. Thanks for all the great tips and advice. Doubling down on niches that are selling well is a great idea! The free shipping guarantee and Etsy's priority placement is a game changer! I just subscribed and am excited to follow you on your journey, but also have my own journey as well. I spent a month researching products that are selling well, everbee tags, popular stores and what they're doing to succeed etc. After my research was done, I created my own store along with a dozen products to get started. POD shirts. They are all research based listings like you mentioned in your video. I've been adding value to the designs by making them different than what is currently selling. I made high quality mock ups, tailored tags etc., but unfortunately, no sales yet. I'm running ads, and a few of them are getting a lot of clicks, but no sales yet. My pricing is very low, including free shipping, so I'm thinking it's just because my store is so new, and I have no reviews, that maybe customers are hesitant. I'm definitely going to try your shipping strategy to have lower prices tshirts, with a little bit of shipping added, hoping customers will want to add a few more items to be eligible for the free shipping.

Hi Taylor, I am from India, I am planning to start POD, and I want to create designs catering to American and european customers, how do I ensure that when I do product research I come come across the designs customers from those countries are looking for, since I am from India how do I access what they are looking for and when I design them how do I ensure that my POD products are presented to customers from those countries? I’d be very thankful if you answer these questions for me.

Hey if you can answer question I’ll appreciate it because it’s stressing me out. I uploaded a full procreate fill just to test it out to see how it looks. I made the design bigger but it still was way to small. Is it any way to upload just the design without the background? I think you understand what ima saying because you use procreate.

If I’m understanding correctly, it might be your fill layer which is the first layer on procreate. You’ll want to make sure that is “unchecked”.

It’s a very motivating story! I’m very new, I’ve heard that new people should not run ads till making sales. So did you waited for sale, or tried to ask friends and families to buy to get the initial sale? Do you mind sharing it? Thank you!
@TaylorPOD
@TaylorPOD 11 ай бұрын
I have a video discussing my ad strategy - I personally believe in running ads from the very beginning as it's a way to test your products and see how customers interact. It allows you to collect data and make adjustments to streamline your growth, in my opinion. I shared my shop with my family and friends right away and had two people buy products in the beginning. 😃

Congratulations on your success! Did you niche down or you have like a general store? I’m stuck on this question. I’m afraid of picking one niche and maybe not working, I’m also afraid of making general design about everything. Any thoughts ?
@TaylorPOD
@TaylorPOD Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I am more of a general store with a few broad niches and sub niches. You will never know if something doesn’t work if you do not try. I wouldn’t go too broad with your designs as it will be hard to break through saturation. Start with your own hobbies and interests and use those as inspiration.

Great video Taylor! Quick question on the mix of paid and free shipping if you don't mind..... I currently have free shipping on everything, so my prices are higher than a lot of similar POD stores......If I was to add some products lower priced with paid shipping, how does it work with the Etsy $35 free shipping guarantee? How do I set it up to auto calculate? Or do I need to set a discount code or something? sorry, this one confused me 🤔🙈 Thank you in advance 😊
@TaylorPOD

So you will want to utilize an Etsy profit calculator to make sure you are pricing them appropriately so that you can still profit if a customer adds multiple items to receive the free shipping on orders over $35.

I have not experienced any issues with any designs with shading. It’s important to just not have any transparency with your designs. When uploading to Printify I look for a minimum resolution of 300 DPI. I love procreate. I actually only have an iPad, no laptop. So that’s how I run my business :)

Hi, Taylor! Great job on your sales strategy! I'm a newbie starting out and my first mistake was using Printify's mock-ups for my designs. Now that I've downloaded much better mock-ups, how do I substitute those moick-ups in place of the Printify ones and make sure Printify ships out the correct item the buyer wants? Thanks in advance!
@TaylorPOD
@TaylorPOD 11 ай бұрын
It all will come down to your print provider + Etsy account integration. With Printify, as you publish products from Printify to Etsy - you can then go into the listing on Etsy, delete Printify's mockups and replace with the mockups you have created. Products published from Printify to Etsy will include the SKU numbers so that Printify can be automated for you in shipping the correct products out. If you are creating the listing manually on Etsy as your first step - you would then have to create the product on Printify and add in each SKU number manually (super time consuming) which I wouldn't recommend.
@GlobalistGuru

@@TaylorPOD Wow, thanks for getting back to me so quickly. My problem is matching up the SKU #'s to the new mockup. I don't want someone ordering a shirt based on the mockup color and getting the wrong color. How do I make sure that doesn't happen?
@TaylorPOD
@TaylorPOD 11 ай бұрын
You shouldn’t have to match a SKU to a mock-up. Your SKUs would be associated with your product variations. Again, all this would be automatically done for you when publishing a listing from Printify to Etsy.

I’m 7 months in and I haven’t reach 100 sales yet but it’s finally picking up. My question is, when you find a niche or keywords to design for, how many designs do you make for that keyword? When I find a niche or keyword I usually design 10 or 30 depends, is that too much? is it too little? Sometimes I get so overwhelmed.
@TaylorPOD
@TaylorPOD 9 ай бұрын
I generally recommend creating a minimum of 25 designs for a niche. This helps to start collecting data and understanding which designs are getting more views which can help you realize faster what is and isn’t working. I don’t think there is anything considered “too much” - just remember it’s like a science experiment in the beginning with trial and error. With a science experiment, the more data you can collect the better for an accurate test!

As Revenue and Profit are not the same, if the item is POD, the average profit is perhaps about 15 percent of Revenue. Keeping that in mind, a person would have to sell $200K of product to make $30,000 profit. Some items may have a higher margin of profit such as blanket prints for example. However, if there are digital download design items for sale, the margin of profit adjusts higher, to at least 80 percent profit per item after expenses (for digital-only products). A lot of Reviewers discuss the Revenue only, which are much higher numbers than the actual profit. However, 500 sales in the first 7 months is a great achievement proving your designs are great! It can only get better! How many sales, or amount of revenue would you need, to make this a "full-time job" with only POD items for example to achieve a $30K or $40K profit in a year? Just wondering.
@TaylorPOD
@TaylorPOD Жыл бұрын
I’m averaging about $8 profit per item sold. So my math says about 5000 items a year would = $40K. Like you mentioned profit % can vary drastically according to many factors. There is definitely a lot of opportunity within POD 😊
