My friend, you didn't get them into warhammer for under $100, you've put them on the path towards bankruptcy!

I hear that a lot and I do not agree. A good army will cosy you the same or less that a new gen game system and a few games. I not saying its cheap but as hobbies go this is one of the more affordable IMO.

I think the Space Marine 2 video game is going to cause a LOT of people to take a look into the 40K setting and lore more, as well as the miniatures game. One thing I would point a friend towards if they were somewhat interested in trying 40K, would be the Kill Team game. If they were more interested in collecting a bigger army with lots of miniatures then I might mention to them that One Page Rules may be a simpler game to play, and cheaper than chasing the GW rules books through editions... as I kinda suspect that an interest in the larger army sized game stems somewhat from the interest in collecting and painting and that side of the hobby... someone more interested in "playing" the actual game, might be keen on the idea of smaller model counts, smaller space required, and likely a bit shorter games vs the full 40K on a 6x4ft table over the course of likely a decent bit longer time. I've given up on chasing GW editions and rules to play the larger 40K game, I'm more of a collector and casual gamer, so I am more into the lore, collecting a few models of this and that which i just like the models but not intending to play them unless they'd make up a small team for a skirmish size game... I'll stick to buying and reading some novels, following some online stuff about the games, and just trying to wade through the never ending list of hobby projects...as far as the playing side of it goes, One Page Rules has me covered, the Grimdark Future : Firefight game, and if I want to get out more stuff and set up a larger battle, the normal Grimdark Future game. \ These options can basically be played for the cost of minis, so that really takes the cost down for people to just try the hobby... and skirmish sized games means they can play after only building up a handful of miniatures, possibly even from a single box. The Kill Team approach from GW , well there's a couple ways to get started, but for someone trying to get started, the $100 starter set is a nice way to go, with the printed MDF terrain, 2 teams, and a manual that is teaching how to play the game through missions that build upon the previous ones, until you've got the basic rules down pat. I'd also say that the starter set, and Core Rule Book, would be a great way for 2 friends to get stuck in and playing, each would have a team to start, and once you get through the introductory missions then you can dive into the extra stuff that is in the core book. It also provides for Solo and Co-Op play modes. My personal favorite way to get someone a chance to try it, is by just having an unresponsible amount of 40K minis, and being able to let friends try it without buying anything... heck, if they wanna try assembling and painting some I probably have enough in my pile of grey on shelves to let them have a go at that side of it even... I'm just hoping that player base and community grows now because of this video game being a hit.....the community kinda stopped being a thing in my area in 2020 and hasn't really come back from that.

The only thing I disagree with is the way you calculated savings on the rule books. That little handbook does not have enough in it to count it as a full replacement for the core book + codexes. And I don't think the Titus box has paint pots or clippers. Great value in the boxes though, and good video.

@@jbird1128 no it doesn’t replace the official rulebook and codexes but it is enough information for people to dip their toe in. As for the paint and clippers, it does come with those is the exact same as the introductory box the only difference. Being you get Titus model instead of 5 inferus marines.

@SwampertKing oh I see. I was thinking of the Target exclusive box 'Space Marine The Board Game' which lacks the paints but has more Tyranids it looks like.

Just wanted to add some budget options for those that don't have a Warhammer store locally - Amazon typically has at least one sub $100 USD starter set for Games Workshop - currently I see both a Warhammer set and a Sigmar set under $100. Barnes and Noble books usually has at least one Space Marine adventure box (currently Tyranid Attack!) with 5 Space Marines and markers for the Tyranids at $34.99. Plus two Blood Bowl sets, two Sigmar based sets, and an Underworld set all under $50. Finally Target has the Tyranid Attack game WITH a stat card for the Lt Titus that was included in the Recruit Edition game you showed in your video - the B&N version does NOT have this stat card. Target HAD the Recruit Edition game before the holidays but it's no longer available. Of course these cheap options are very much gateway games to get you hooked on the more costly offerings from GW but you can have a lot of fun with the sub $100 stuff before then. 🙂

They can be scared away by the: Price RULES! You need Core book, you need Codex, AND if you play let's say blood angels you need separate book for them. And last but not least - paints and tools. It's not about price. BUD DID YOU SEE HOW MUCH OF THEM DO YOU NEED? How i got into 40K. In my first visit to the capital i saw a Warhammer store. I hear A LOT about Warhammer and i play in Space Marine 1 in my childhood, so i decided to enter. And what i saw is little soldiers with A LOT of details and they look so cool!. It was the last week of the 8'th edition and i buy starter box with Primaris Captain in Gravis and Lord of Contagion. I also notice paints in the corner of the store, but didn't pay much attention. Who the f in the right mind want to buy PAINTS, when we have ALL THESE COOL MINIATURES? Are they stupid? And when i back home i sit down, open the box AAAAAAND. . . What is this? Where is my cool miniatures? Where is cool guy with axe? What is this sh. . . Wait. . . *notice axe on one of the spruce* NO. . . IT CAN'T BE. . . SO THAT'S WHAT PAINTS FOR NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Aaaaand than i lost A LOT of money on the paints and stuff. . . And only at 9'th edition i learned that i need A F* BOOKS TO ACTUAL PLAY! GOD! WHY? THEY ARE SO COOL! WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO ME? I don't want to spend money anymore, but when i see something like Leviathan I JUST HAVE TO! XD This is how my room turn into mess with a lot of hobby stuff. Foam, glue, paints, brushes all over the place and i LOVE IT!

Getting people into warhammer for south of 100 US$ isn't the problem. Keeping them from spending south of 500 US$, that's a whole different ballgame 😄

We need to boycott the company as punishment for pricing. China now make cool looking space marines and if not they also make 1 to 1 fakes
